Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
I'll point out my suggestion was movement in general rather than speed. Speed is just a small facet, given that it could also involve things like teleportation, terrain manipulation (given that things like walls effect movement), mind control (controlling the moves of others), astrology (reading the movements of the starts), telekinesis (moving objects with your mind), standing your ground (focusing on a lack of movement), etc.

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
Has their been a Psionics-focused theme yet? Or was that covered by the "Power of the Mind" challenge?
I'd almost cast my vote for a Minion-based one, if there hadn't been two in this competition. How about one based on Nature, or maybe Video Game/Movie/Music-inspired?

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
Every time I see Jack-of-All-Trades types mentioned in contests I pity myself for not having saved up the Dabblemaster for such an occassion.
Movement sounds like a fun one to me, considering the possibilities of the theme.Homebrewer's Signature | Avatar by Strawberries

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
If this is done, I call making the Flash. Kidding. The rights to that go to whoever makes it fastest. Get it? Fastest.
Legit idea for a theme has occurred to me: Racial Progression classes.
Not like "Hi, I'm an ogre, I progress through my monster class", but more of a 20th level racial class for LA +0 or +1 races. Because maybe a dwarf doesn't feel like being a fighter or a cleric or a warblade, and just wants to spend out his 20 levels exploring his identity and innate power as a dwarf. I personally think it'd be cool to be a 20th level tiefling or Aasimar, but again, just an idea.Newest Work: Pyromancer - My submission for Base Class Contest X

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
What about a contest based on crafting? Not just magic crafting, pure skill-based crafting or shaping the soul into various items would be suitable, even a MacGuyver type is a good example as well. Even improving on existing crafts would be a good option if you ask me.

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
Is that a joke? I've never met anyone that doesn't know who MacGyver is.
It pretty much means throw stuff together to make something that's jury-rigged and have it work. Pulling a MacGyver is actually a Trope if you want to take a look

Could I get a PEACH or two? I already don't like my own Disciple of the Elements, but I'm interested in whether anyone dislikes it for the same reasons.

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
Just in case you didn't remember, you can't edit a class during voting.
However, if this is for revision after the contest ends:
Essentially, the class grants protection against elemental types, and not much else. For the other stuff, not many people are willing to spend a move action at higher levels to add only one or two dice to an attack. Also, blindsight and a dog companion are nice, but they don't really make sense. Also, if going up against someone who doesn't deal energy damage, a Disciple of the Elements is pretty much left high and dry.
My suggestions:
- Branch out abilities more. Maybe grant a bonus to AC somehow or summon elementals, maybe
- Allow option for Force damage if you're going to restrict it to energy types
- Don't be afraid to just let them add 1/2 their level in d6 to all attacks of all energy types, for Elemental Stance, if you still want them to charge attacks, just let them spend the move action to add even more damage.
- That's really it

Am I the only one that wouldn't mind seeing a challenge based on tropes?

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
I think it has a bit of a problem of being waaaaaayyyy too broad. I am not one of the people that are are "TROPES ARE BAD!!!" the worse thing about tvtropes is it eats up my time >.>. But ya, there is a trope for almost any character concept. It would basically be a "Develop any class and then find a trope for it"

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
All is fair in love and war.
Seriously though, I forgot to do that when the voting thread first came up, like I've often done before. I tend to encourage my friends to look at the contests too and vote if they like. I never tell them to just vote for me. It's actually occurred multiple times that they voted against me.
Also, instead of tropes, we could pick the nigh-all-encompassing trope of Genre Savvy?
Personally though, I'm not feeling that theme.Homebrewer's Signature | Avatar by Strawberries

Re: Base Class Challenge Chat Thread II
Thanks, that's kind of what I thought too. I definitely rushed this one and didn't even remember weapon proficiencies (it was supposed to have simple and martial weapons). It was supposed to be an archer originally (so move action to add to damage wouldn't hurt) but then I decided to allow for unarmed, melee, or ranged damage to give options and differentiate it from the arcane archer. Oh well, looking forward to the next challenge.
