Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Dude. What did you guys do to the Webernets again?
Now, we need to do the logical alternative: "gays eating toasts".

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.
I'm not joking one bit. I would buy the hell out of that. -- ChubbyRain

OMG I'm such an idiot. I forgot the link. Sorry about that. I'm waiting for a phone call for a first interview at a new job and I'm nervous.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Good luck with your interview!
That sort of things makes me kind of angry and disappointed.
It's not that it bugs me a lot (there are other discriminations that are way more serious, in my opinion), but if they want to put "interactive" heterosexual-only romance in the game, I'd really like for it to be strictly optional. I didn't appreciate it very much when the first Mass Effect forced me to woo a girl (or an agendered alien which happened to look almost exactly like a humal female - and it was the only species of the game which resembled humans at all! What an amazing coincidence ). I don't think this is the case with the game discussed in the article, but still, I wonder when humanity will grow out of this childish tantrum over whatever is not heteronormative.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of roleplaying different characters when I play videogames, but still, if I wanted to feel the amazing sensation which acting being straight gives, I would have remained in the closet

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I find it pretty sad the assumption only LGBT people will want to play LGBT characters - apparently the game company assumes all gamers are homophobes. What about me? What about Yahtzee?

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
I'm like... wut at that entire thing. Sex in a star wars game? I thought Lucas was so vehemently opposed to the idea getting near to his franchise that he butchered his own romance plotline in the prequel trilogy.
...He didn't die and no one's bothered to mention it or something, has he?
Though, come to think of it, just having PC-NPC sexual relationships in an MMO is in and of itself kinda... skeezy. Like, skeezier than two PCs cybering in the public forum.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Naw, Lucas still loves his little cash cow franchise, and is still alive. The problem is that Bioware, one, always wants to put sex in things, and two, they always chicken out and won't put in same sex unless it's Dragon Age, which is lesser known and thus less widely put in the news.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Well, as I tried to be as professional as possible towards the girl(s) and as flirty as possible toward the boy, maybe the game disagrees with me about courting I'm really bad at that, anyway, so I may be in the wrong.
Oh well, I can't really be mad with Bioware, they made Jade Empire which was very good IMHO regarding gay-friendlyness. I expected that, with time passing, they'd make games which are more friendly instead of less friendly, though.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Hokay, so my friend is having some major issues.
1st of all: her parents are really, really intolerant. Like, they don't like gay people, muslims, transgendered people, pretty much freaking everyone.
2nd of all: they are crazy Asian parents (which isn't to say that some Asian parents aren't fantastic; these ones aren't). They expect perfection from her, and although she is incredibly smart, athletic, going to a really good private school, working her butt off, they blame her for wanting to have friends and go on the internet.
3rd of all: for the second reason, they want to throw her out. They think she is lazy, no good, not working hard enough, disrespectful, and they think that that is enough for her to be thrown out.
4th of all: she is bisexual, and really wants to come out to them. She is worried that compounded on the above points, they would immediately throw her out, stop paying for her school, stop paying for her sports related activities, etc etc. She also doesn't really have anywhere to go if they do throw her out (besides my house, and I don't think my parents would let her, although I might just override them since we have an extra room now that my sister is at college >_>).
What can she do? I don't think I can ask for whether or not her parents can legally throw her out, since that goes against the new forum rule (I think? I honestly have no idea how it works), but I think they can, so what can she do to mitigate it, not from a legal perspective? Are there any options besides "be a good girl"? And let's be honest, her parents have a really, really, really weird definition of what that means, and frankly not one that seems physically possible.
Knowing her parents, they seem fully capable and willing of throwing her out, so it isn't like a question of whether or not they are joking.
Haaaaaalp.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
There's a BIG difference between Asian parents and Crazy Asian parents.
Anyways... that... is a really hard thing. If she's not prepared for being kicked out, and it may indeed happen (we're talking CRAZY Asian parents here, not Asian parents), she should probably hold her tongue for now. She should look for someone who can give her the legal advice regarding whether or not they can kick her out. If they can, well, before she tells them, she needs to have a backup plan ready. I do think, though, that this will take a while to create and set up. If they can't kick her out... well... they still could make life miserable for her...
... All in all, perhaps it would just be best that, as long as it is of no consequence to the parents (as in... as long as she is not in a relationship with another girl) and as long as they can harm her (by kicking her out or taking her out of the activities she is in), she should maybe not tell them. I know she wants to, but... is she really raedy to face the consequences?Last edited by bluewind95; 2011-08-26 at 12:36 AM.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Fifteen
Advice... Talk to the school about options if the parents drop her, because education issues can be a real showstopper at the age I infer she is. If she has no scholarship options or ones for an orderly, timely transition to another place, I'd advise holding off. Otherwise, it's really just a judgement call whether to tell them yet, and one she is better equipped than any of us to make both on whether to tell them and ways to mitigate consequences. I am vehemently anti-closet, so I'm inclined to say "truth should out," but circumstances vary. All you can do is be ready with a bed if she needs it.
But yeah, as a crazy person I can attest. You can't argue with crazy people on the subject of their insanity. It just doesn't work.
