Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
But that's not estrogen... it's missing all its hydroxyl groups (unless the blobs at the ends are supposed to be them) and the benzene ring is missing all it's double bonds.
Looking over the website it randomly switches from making the blobs stand for -OH, =O, -NH. Often within the same chemical. It's almost as if the makers just looked up the chemicals on wikipedia or something and have no clue what all those symbols stand for.Last edited by pffh; 2012-03-14 at 03:12 PM.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
I'm so tired and confused that I read the first clause of this as literal and I was like "Jaysus, Golentan, what do you be at with your woman?! What's wrong with missionary?"
But seriously, I'm really sorry to hear that, once I actually managed to understand. I hope you've made up by now, and if not, maybe give her a little space and try again. Sometimes, when we're angry, we're angry, and when she cools down, I'm sure she'll realise you didn't mean to hurt her feelings that way.
Aww! Asta's ideas are adorable!
I think Nope is right (! ) and it's the balance she's struck between the jewellery being easy to make and the chemistry being correct. That said, I completely agree with you. If it was me, I'd change everything else to make the chemistry be correct and drop the molecule if I couldn't.
Btw, going to be crazy tomorrow. Tried to explain below and exploded into a totally off topic rant, so I'll spoiler. My life today:
Spoiler
My class are away on a field trip that I wasn't able to go on due to my illness. So my head of department gave me a paper to write instead. So far, so reasonable. Problem is, when he talked to me about it he said it was "So you don't get time to study, because that would be unfair on the healthy students." When I pointed out that I would be using the time to catch up on the hours and hours and days and weeks I'd missed due to illness, and that actually, it wasn't very fair on me that I had a long-term illness, but sure that's life, he said "Yes, but you are smart. It's not fair on the students who aren't smart that they won't do as well as you!". My bleedin mistake, and here I was thinking I was in a university; an institute which promotes, celebrates and rewards academic excellence. So sorry my hard work and effort and all that time I did be spending reading has upset the healthy students. ... Em, so, the point is... I slept for the first week they were away and then had to go to a funeral, so now I'm cramming to get the paper done. I'm going to crash again first day back in class (Friday) and sleep all weekend. Again. Those poor healthy students will hopefully get a chance to study, poor wee lambs, since they were away on a terrible interesting field trip packed with awful hands-on learning.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
SpoilerThat's all sorts of messed up. Universities shouldn't care if someone had an extra couple week to study or what not. They aren't some sort of no child left behind institutions. You go there to acquire higher learning of some subject so more time to study should be good. Besides like you pointed out field trips = hands on learning and if I remember correctly you are in some sort of geology (geophysics?) and there seeing stuff is invaluable.
I hope you will be feeling better soon so you can kick ass studying"Elephant trunks should be used for elephant things only. Nothing else."

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Whee ableism.
That makes no sense. Besides, couldn't some of those kids do studying while on the field trip and not doing productive things? Like, during transport, or before bed, or whatever? And who's to say you would spend the whole time studying anyway? 'Cause clearly you haven't been. Due to that medical issue.
"It's not fair to the other kids that you're smart and a hard worker," is utter BS.Jude P.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Hey, so for speech class we are doing a group discussion. I've heard it's a fun event, my topic, LGBT. We have four questions and I was wondering if you all would help me. I would like to share some of the things posted here, also some of these questions are gonna be for our extemp, which is basically a timed write speech, not an impromptu cause you get 30 minutes and not thirty seconds, and that's gonna be our final. If you wouldn't mind letting me use your stories, would you please PM me with your real name so I can sound legitimate? I'll also be going through and finding some good articles from this part and maybe a few parts back.
My questions are:
How do different cultures view LGBT individuals?
I was thinking about what Keavak has said about Sweden and I believe theSuccubus posted about how transexuals have more rights is Iran or Iraq
How can we raise awareness in order to resolve LGBT issues?
Someone posted about when some catholic got on their case for being gay, and proceeded to hit on his pan best friend, and probably about I think it was Kender's father saying all black people are gay, and also a few of the happy stories. I forget who talked about how his parents thought he was gay even though he was asexual.
How does media affect society's views on LGBT issues?
This was gonna be a lot of Glee and Modern Family and Internet stuff although help here would be appreciated
Why do people descriminate against LGBT individuals?
Religion, ignorance, a lot of examples here, if I could have consent, which would be great!
I would love happy stories too! Like the transgender clergy
Anyway, thank you guys so much, I love you all!

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
Eh, the transgender people having more rights in Iran is hardly true. There's less barriers to SRS and the like, but that's more a "it's a way we can avoid gay people" kinda thing. (Which makes me curious about how lesbian trans women or gay trans men would be seen.) The way society treats them (in Iran) is on the worser end of the spectrum too.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
*Facepalm* What is this I don't even.
*Hugs* Circumstances aside (), I'm sure you'll kick that paper's ass.
(Sorry if that wasn't very reassuring, it seems that I'm experiencing flashbacks again...)
SpoilerMost of my grade-school teachers were convinced that children didn't get sick, or something. I grew up obese, and I ended up straining the tendons in my feet for years from all the walking... And they still made me walk. If I hadn't "lazily" leaned on the walls and sat down in P.E., I probably would've injured myself.
Then there's my friend... He actually had to have his mom get their lawyer on it. Several times. You'd think they'd notice the shiny lithium wristband saying 'running too hard can kill me', but... Actually, I recall them accusing him of making his heart condition up at least once. And they wondered what made me so bitter...
(He's fine now (and in pretty good shape, actually), but that did not help his temper. :/)

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 21: BLACKJACK!
So I was reading this book in class. It's called The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It'd take too long to give a synopsis, so I'm going to note an entry in the book that I couldn't help but laugh at. The novel is hysterical, so this little bit of it made my day. Not a spoiler, just an excerpt. A paragraph of your time.
SpoilerEpileptics were often shamans because people just assumed that God gave seizure-visions to the lucky ones.
Gay people were seen as magical, too.
I mean, like in many cultures, men were viewed as warriors and women were viewed as caregivers. But gay people, being both male and female, were seen as both warriors and caregivers.
Gay people could do anything. They were like Swiss Army knives!Steam username is Triscuitable.
I got VAC banned in COD: Ghosts for using an FOV changer.
I try not to think of how sad that is.

The actual wedding was today! I got to be best man, my toast was apparently good, everyone is now blitzed and dancing to german techno and neo-goth music, and I am posting from inside of one of those enclosed jet skis.
Also, pretty much everyone here is bi, apparently.
