Also because otherwise they would just have not pulled the lever, and he'd just stand there awkwardly til the spell wore off and they reshortened it.

okay, it didn't seem to get any decent amount longer, and I didn't know animate rope could actually change it's length.

The proper length is a drop of 10 foot, 2 inches, so a 13 ish foot rope.

Animate rope didn't change it's length. Rust had the rope shortened moments previously, and Miles just had the knots holding it shorter release themselves.

OOOOOOOOOH! I thought they just, you know, cut it shorter and rehung it. Shortened through knotting makes perfect sense.

Yep, that's exactly what Rust had the executioner do.

I checked out for a month, and suddenly Coffee goes ahead and confirms my suspicions that Miles is going to die? I guess this makes my fanfic AU now.

Let's see, what can I say about the recent strips...

For the second-latest strip, I can't help but notice Rust using the "come see our credentials" trick. One one hand, most people probably wouldn't bother going out of their way to enter the castle and check out the "evidence" personally. On the other hand, those few souls who did want to look at the evidence would probably end up meeting with Rust personally. Investigating the incident in this way would also tip Rust off that they are at least mildly suspicious of him, wishing to see the evidence first-hand rather than taking his word for it. So, we have a rebellious, determined individual coming into a castle where Rust lives and monitors everything. Yeah. It's not going to end well for them.

Though, in regards to the executioner's question about whether Miles broke under torture, I find it a little heartening. If such rumors like that have reached the public, it can mean one of two things. Rust might have a leak somewhere in his force, someone who was near enough to him to know about the results of Miles's torture. However, it could also mean that the population as a whole is not so scared/loyal to Rust/Murphy that they wouldn't spread the idea that Miles might have held strong through his torment.

There's also the fact that Rust had to Ghost Sound a couple fake taunts. Indeed, it appears that the audience of the hanging is completely silent, probably too shocked to speak. Or, perhaps they are being quiet out of respect for someone who could have been their Mage General. Rust probably made this event mandatory for the Kago-stationed soldiers to attend, which would explain why the crowd is so large compared to the hanging at the start of this arc.

Also, I've noticed that the curious mage here is at in the front row of Mile's crowd. I think this may also be the guy taking a step back in Miles's death-panel.

Still, I find it interesting that Miles has taken the Still Spell feat, which would allow him to cast his Animate Rope spell while being bound like this. While Animate Rope might have served as a way to escape said bonds, Miles also might have kept this specific spell prepared, in reserve, just in case Rust tried to hang him with a shortened rope. Heh, classic Miles.

Let's see, predictions for the future...I can't imagine that Rust could get away with completely destroying Miles's body or otherwise making him impossible to Resurrect. This dead guy was originally going to be the next Mage General - I don't think Rust would be able to disrespect Miles's remains without getting a few too many dirty looks.

Whew, glad I got that out of my system. Good luck on your exams, Coffee.

Oh Alagaesian, I have missed you so!

Again, your analysis is nearly spot on. Just two things: Miles has the Sudden Still feat, which lets him cast a spell as a still spell without penalty once per day. And it's also a lot harder to resurrect people in Aequar.

It's nice to know that my analyses were missed.

Anyways, I'm now getting a small vibe...just a far-flung prediction, if you will, that will probably take place at the very end of the story, after all this Kagoan conflict is over and done with. There only two Good people left who have been trained to be the leader of Kago, and it's not hard to trope-ically determine who will end up with that position. Lexington's the next Lord. It's him.

Does fit with the inevitable "overcome deep seated racism" thing, in which Rust will promptly have a heart attack over humans suddenly being ACCEPTING and KIND to OTHERS.

A variant of Reincarnate that bought someone back as a Warforged would seem pretty legit, if you weren't using the 'warforged are incredibly rare' thing.

Not actually a thing, at least in D&D.

What is it with you and trying to link every single bit of anything in fantasy-related fiction to every other bit that seems vaguely similar without actually matching up?

Well, I just had a stupid imagination like if you could create a dreadnought equivalent in D&D.
P.S- I thought soul bind is D&D spell since the comic strip is about D&D (or the parody of it).

Okay I'm sorry my remark was uncalled for. I'd self-scrub it if you hadn't already responded, but now it'd break continuity and you've already seen it so there's no point.
