Anyway, working on the comic; I plan to have it up this weekend. The dialogue's going to be a bit tricky for this one; I hope I can pull it off right.

A very nice webcomic. I really, really hope that General Murphy and High Priest Hyperion live long enough to realize how badly they have messed everything and how much they have descended into corruption.

Honestly, if they can't even realize why Lloyd is freaked by the murder of children, they have crossed the line by far, and a malevolent force must be tinkering with their Detect Good and Detect Evil spells, so they don't realize they aren't good anymore.

Honestly, if they can't even realize why Lloyd is freaked by the murder of children, they have crossed the line by far, and a malevolent force must be tinkering with their Detect Good and Detect Evil spells, so they don't realize they aren't good anymore.

This is an interesting thought: a paladin who actually uses Detect Evil on his or her self, and finds that they register in an all too surprising way...

I don't know if that will work, I recall Coffee saying that in Aequar the God's themselves can affect how one shows up in a Detect Alignment spell (IIRC she said Astrid made it so all Plaavan's showed up as evil). So it is entirely possible that even if a (fallen) Paladin is chaotic evil it would still show up as Lawful Good, assuming the entity that maintains his powers cares for that.

But when Lloyd uses Detect Evil, sometimes he registers some Plaavans as non-evil...is he no longer a paladin of Astrid? Is he sort of a generic paladin now?

Paladins who become evil lose their detect evil ability. The only "exception" I know of is a paladin Darklord in Ravenloft, where the Dark Powers grant her paladin abilities. The 'detect evil' no longer detects evil but emotional attachment to the paladin. From her perspective, everyone who becomes a friend or lover becomes lost to evil... and must be executed.

Actually simply by violating your code (which in vanilla 3.5 is pretty restrictive) you loose all your nice class features, you really become a fighter without bonus feat AKA a warrior (NPC class). Oh and the Dark Powers are giants *****.

I could see the paladins and clerics of Astrid as being under a similar influence. Murphy certainly summoned an evil creature instead of a good outsider, and their Detect Evil ability is confirmed by Word of God as being twisted.

I wonder if Astrid herself became corrupted by whatever really happened thousand of years ago, and now she has an evil side or aspect.

Technically, you still have a d10 hitdie instead of the warriors d8, but your point remains unchanged/

Warriors get Tower Shields (Paladins don't). So you become a slightly higher HP Warrior with one less proficiency...

EDIT: But more skills listed as Class Skills.

One could say that the paladins defecting (at least Lexington) are good paladins, not yet tainted. Their deeds are mischievous sure, but maybe not unlike robin hood ?:D

Yeah, but that's a Chaotic act. This is the problem with the Paladin - they may be caught in a place where they have to lose their powers no matter what they do.

Defecting against the letter of the law to uphold the spirit of it (and vise-versa, I suppose) seems Neutral on the Law/Chaos a is to me.
