I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

Not so much about metal bikinis (the armourer's article covered that) but about the idea that plate armour was somehow cumbersome even for people trained with it:

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode VI: Return of the JPEG
The superduperheavy full plate myth probably originates from the Spanish Count-Duke of Olivares, who needed help, and used a crane, to mount in his horse. But that wasn't because the fullplate weighed so much, it was because he had a grave case of gout (was also obese, though that wouldn't have mattered without gout), which was the cause of his death. It was the pain hat prevented him from mounting by himself. He would have needed it all the same if he was in his undergarments only.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode VI: Return of the JPEG
Think it was Sir Walter Scott who propagated the myth in Ivanhoe, if I remember right. Pretty well all knights could mount unassisted. Goes along with the old myth that swords weighed ten pounds. Oakeshott's Typology records the stereotypical Type XII long sword as weighing at 3 pounds maximum. On that point, if that point alone, D&D is surprisingly accurate: when you compare the weights given to mundane gear, armour and weapons from the period, it's more or less right.
No representation without taxation:

I'm not sure where the original pictures for these demotivators came from, so I'd appreciate it very much if anyone would tell me.
