On a completely unrelated note, I've spent pretty much the entirety of today listening to Brodequin.

    ALL THE BRODEQUIN.

So it seems Leaves' Eyes are releasing a new album soonish. I'm certainly getting it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

...come on. You guys know you love it.

So how 'bout that new Ayreon album? Featuring the likes of Tommy Karevik of Kamelot, Marco Hietala of Nightwish, Rick Wakeman of Yes, and Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater, it looks to be a heck of a thing!

Hrm... Not bad. I like the synth stuff (but with those two keyboardists in the band, who wouldn't?), but it's not terribly impressive, either in the actual technical bits of the work or in the composition itself. *shrug* I might change my mind after hearing the full album.

So, I'm opening a metal themed sandwich stand and I'm going to be naming the sandwiches after metal genres. I need your help, guys. Here's what I got so far.

The Heavy Metal is your standard BLT. That one's pretty easy

For The Death Metal I'm thinking of a spicy grilled cheese

The Black Metal is going to be smokey. Mozzarella and prosciutto are two things that spring to mind immediately but that's kind of a work in progress.

The Doom Metal is going to be vegetarian. But as for what kind of vegetarian I was kind of drawing a blank.

The Progressive Metal will be the most expensive thing on the menu and feature the most ingredients.

The Power Metal will be pretty light and easy. I'm thinking just a cheeseburger.

And that's really all I got so far. If you guys can think of something for other genres or sandwiches that better represent the ones I got let me know.

For an extra 50 cents, you can Blacken up any of the other sandwiches!

Doom could be an eggplant sandwich. With bell peppers, ideally roasted red.

The Death Metal should really be "bloodier." Maybe some sort of pulled pork with BBQ sauce or something. Make the spicy grilled cheese the Thrash Metal, possibly with an unlimited grilled cheese option called "Thrash 'til Death."

A "Melodeath" sandwich which is basically a Death Metal with less bite might not be a bad idea.

Have a few exotic side options for folk elements that people can incorporate.

And naturally, requesting a "Metalcore" or "Nu Metal" gets you a knuckle sandwich.

I actually like both of those genres. But, in any case, there probably won't be a Nu Metal anyway. I think it just goes under the whole Alternative Metal thingamajig.

    This sounds beautiful.

Though I'm not sure about Doom Metal being a veggie option... Veggie options should be like, Alternative Metal and Nu Metal or something. Loads of pseudo-hippies and activists were part of that scene.

Maybe Gothic Metal. There's loads of vegetarian Goths for some reason.

    Because stereotypes.

Heh. Relayer was good, yeah. Couple of real classics on there, and some really original stuff, which I enjoyed. Also, I absolutely love The Ladder.

This is the Metal Thread, right?

    ::checks thread title::

Okay, I've got a question. I like Megadeth. Also like Pantera and old Metallica. I don't care for Death/Black/Power, etc. I prefer Thrash, so I stick mostly with Megadeth when I'm in a Metal mood.

I've heard some songs on the radio recently from a band called Avenged Sevenfold. I've heard the name for years but never paid attention to it but some of the songs I've heard lately I'm getting a real Thrash vibe from parts of them. The two or three songs I've heard so far are pretty okay.

Question: In the vast knowledge of the esteemed regulars of the Metal Thread, do you think Avenged Sevenfold is a good Thrash metal band? If you were to recommend a CD to buy given my preferences stated above which one would it be?

Disclosure: The last two CD's I've bought were Bjork Volta and Funeral For a Friend Hours (though not necessarily bought the year they were released). I've always been a Bjork fan but the FFaF album was a stretch for me and I was pleasantly surprised, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised again, possibly with a new Avenged Sevenfold CD.

i'm not particularly fond of thrash metal in general or avenged sevenfold specifically, but for what it's worth i've never heard anyone call them a thrash band and i've only heard a lot of conflicting opinions on whether they're "even metal in the first place."

does it really matter either way, though? if you think you might like them then i'd suggest that you just listen to them. what people here (or anywhere) think of them seems unimportant. if you're hesitant to buy an album without hearing much of the band first, youtube some of their songs and pick up the album if you like it and want to hear it in higher quality.

i mention most of this because, if i recall correctly, they're one of those bands that incite a lot of elitism among certain sects of metal fans because of their association with hardcore/metalcore/nu-metal/"radio-friendly metal"/idk, whatever the **** you want to call it. personally, i find a7x to be boring and not unlike post-black-album metallica, but what i'm really trying to reinforce here is that my opinion is irrelevant

So, I've recently found a few psych/doom/stoner metal stuff I figured I'd share with you guys.

    Beneath the Crown - SubRosa
    Papertiger - Suma
    Stoner Kebab - Superdoom
(and a slightly older favorite): Seer - Witch

Okay, I've got a question. I like Megadeth. Also like Pantera and old Metallica. I don't care for Death/Black/Power, etc. I prefer Thrash, so I stick mostly with Megadeth when I'm in a Metal mood.
Yeah, ignore the OP (unless you're looking for the older Metal threads), Moff messed with it a while back.

Good man. Have you ever listened to The Sword? I feel like you'd enjoy some of their earlier stuff.

Question: In the vast knowledge of the esteemed regulars of the Metal Thread, do you think Avenged Sevenfold is a good Thrash metal band? If you were to recommend a CD to buy given my preferences stated above which one would it be?
Avenged Sevenfold... from what I've heard, isn't really much of a thrash band. They might have a few thrashy songs, but that's not really representative of what I've heard of their music. I'm not all that familiar with their albums, but I'm sure there's someone else here that is.

i ran into Seer a year or so ago and really enjoyed Witch and one or two other songs, but was kinda unimpressed with the album as a whole. i was disappointed, but to be fair i can probably count the amount of consistently good doom/stoner metal albums i've heard on one hand. i'm not sure why that is.

i haven't listened to much doom lately but that suma track sounds really solid. on the topic of doom, i don't recall if i ever got a chance to share Huata's Lords of the Flame here.

So I'm listening to the new Defeated Sanity and... wow... it's surprisingly funky. That bass, man. It's an uptempo version of what you'd hear in a lot of period disco songs.

    Maybe that's just me.
