Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
I'd say the best LP of 2012, and the one that best met my expectations, was Napalm Death's Utilitarian.
Expectations least met....toss up between Nile's At the Gates of Sethu and Kreator's Phantom Antichrist.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
So I went to see Iron Maiden last night and it was magical. The set list was packed with favorites of mine, and just like the last time I saw them, I was very pleasantly surprised by the awesomeness of the live rendition of a song that I hadn't considered to be particularly strong in its album version (in this case "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"). Maiden really do put on a spectacular show, and this one ranks up there with seeing Priest last Fall for the best concert I've ever seen. Alice Cooper was the supporting act, and what with all the theatrics and things that was also pretty fun. It's hard to compete with Maiden's stage show, but it's nice that it was at least made sporting.
Iron Maiden can't be fought.
Judging by the set lists here they've mostly been sticking to the old stuff. Even though it is technically the Illud Divinum Insanus tour, it seems to be more about damage control than actually selling the piece of crap record.Last edited by WhamBamSam; 2012-07-20 at 12:57 AM.

Holy Crap.
I was bored and needed new music to listen to, so I looked back through some of the recommendations you guys have given out recently. I ended up looking up the new Gojira album. I'd never heard of them before, but figured I'd try them out cuz their name was kinda cool.
They're freaking amazing. How have I never heard of them before? One of my new favorite bands. I already bought the new cd and The Way of all Flesh.

Today is neofolk day, but as far as stoner, nothing surpasses Church of Misery for me.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
holy what
New Panopticon? Why didn't I know about this? This has made my day. Week. Hell, month.
Maiden is one of the bands I'd give a significant body part for to see live. Here's to hoping they tour over here soon.
Neofolk? Do give some recommendations. I'm always on the lookout for more.
As for metal releases so far, off the top of my head:
Borknagar's Urd is my clear favourite so far. Delivered everything I wanted AND managed to surprise me as well. Awesome stuff.
Candlemass' Psalms For The Dead was a nice surprise.
Alcest's Les Voyages de L'ame was pretty excellent.
Oh, and Sabaton's Carolus Rex. Almost not a single boring song on the entire album.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

I'm also moderately curious for Steve Harris' British Lion.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Yeah, that seemed like it could potentially end up being pretty good.
I'd say the albums I'm most looking forward to are the new ones from Holy Grail and Seven Kingdoms. I'd heard rumors a while back about Priest releasing a new album this year as well, though I haven't heard anything more recently.
I imagine they'll make it over in a year or so when they've finished up the European and North American legs of their tour and start flying off to the rest of the world. Did they make it there on the Final Frontier tour?
