IC Toes in the Water

Miriam scolds Shiny 'Shiny Lieteller and Maker of Fake Dragons, stop telling stupid stories that might impress Natalia or Mithril. We are out the inn. Stop lying about things.'

She looks at Natalia 'What side quest are you talking about Sister?'

Shaking her head, Natalia says, "...Never mind."

Miriam looks at Natalia and has a total confused look on her face. 'OK'.

'Boy, she is getting stranger again. I thought she was getting better on the boat, getting all talkative with Valen but she is back to her strangeways ..'

[Zman]

The group has a 100 mile journey ahead ahead, over good terrain. It is mid morning and the weather looks fair.

The Three other men appear to be in no hurry and are paying fair for a wagon bound for Glister to take them.

Henry appears to be waiting to see what others will do...

Mortin will likely make the journey in 3 days on a Light War Horse.

Trying again, Natalia manages to say, "Linwood now...Explore later. Agree?"

Miriam finally gets it 'Yes Natalia. Linwood now, explore later. You got it.'

"...Thank you." Natalia looks at the sky, wondering how far they can go before nightfall.

[Cavelcade]

"Maybe be less harsh on Shiny, Mithril. He is what he is. Just remember what his stories are and we won't be harmed by them" Watching the little gnome curiously. He shifts his backpack around a little before shrugging.

"Well, will we march or go by cart?"

[Athedia]

Mithril looked up, shocked. "What did I say? I like his stories, they sound like the ones I used to read." Looking at the long trek ahead of them, and then down at Shiny's short legs she said "A cart seems to be the best idea, I don't think even the best storyteller can talk his legs into walking any faster."

Natalia frowns. "Long walk. Maybe find stables?

[Cavelcade]

Kurt's cheeks redden again as he mutters an apology. "Sorry Mithril. I meant Miriam. Sorry."

Responding to Natalia's question, "I have little coin for a horse, and can keep up on foot if need be."

"But...Shiny's short, short legs," says Natalia. "Linwood needs us."

[Athedia]

"We could try to find him a horse. Merchants do have need of them."

Looking at the sun again, Natalia mutters, "Horses or no, should move on."

'I have no gold for a horse .....' says Miriam.

"...Then we hurry," Natalia says, clearly eager to get going. Inwardly, however, she resigns herself to the fact that this is probably going to suck.

[Athedia]

Mithril groaned. She was not looking forward to the long walk ahead. While waiting for everyone else she double checked to make sure all her gear was secured strongly and her weapons within reach.

"Not liking this either," Natalia says as she doublechecks her gear. "Maybe horses as reward?"

[Cavelcade]

Kurt grins a bit. "Don't be afraid of walking. The earth beneath your feet is good, it gives you strength as you keep going. If you feet get tired, take off your shoes and walk on the grass. Most refreshing."

[Zman]

The unusual group of adventurers set out on the long northern road towards Glister, the dust of Mortin can be seen in the distance for the first hour or so before he disappears altogether. Two hours into the walk, Henry catches the group on the back of an aging mare.

Henry

"Well met." as Henry approaches the group. His old grey mare panting heavily.

Though she's happy to see a familiar face, Natalia doesn't really like the condition of the old horse. "How long?"

Miriam sees the old horse and says 'I am just a young farm girl who knows nothing but I can tell you Henri that you are killing that mount of yours. Shiny Equine Master and Horse Whisperer, why don't you tell him the nightmare the young lad will face if he kills his horse of exhaustion.'

[Zman]

Henry

The young man seems to hear the woman's kind words about his newly acquired mount. Patting the aged silver mare. On her neck, "I'll treat her kindly, i won't run her too hard."

"Okay," says Natalia. After all, they had managed to catch up to him on foot. Almost as an afterthought, she says, "On the ship...Good job."

She's about to suggest that Henry travel with the group, but one look at Miriam shows that their cleric isn't overly thrilled with the prospect. Natalia isn't sure why, but she swallows the request. Besides, for all she knows, Miriam might get the wrong idea from her suggestion. Again.

[Zman]

With a nod, Henry spurred on his grey mare as he tried to catch up to Mortin. The day drug on, the sun grew hotter as the group made good time along th old dusty road. Each mile further fom the coast and the land gets wilder and the road rougher. There were few bastions of safety in the wilderness, each night the dangers will grow as the world around you grows ever wilder.

As the days drags on and your legs feel heavy the group decides to push on.

Valen, Miriam, Natalia, Mithril, and even Kurt appear as if they can keep going, but Shiny is reaching the point of being fatigued. The group pushes on as they try and make good time to Linwood.

Shiny jogs merrily alongside his companions, his small legs scurrying to keep up with the swifter members of the party. Anyone who pays close attention notices that by the third hour he is breathing heavily. However, anyone who asks if he's OK is treated to a lecture about the fortitude of Shiny Longstride, marathon runner and apothecary.

At the end of the day of marching, Shiny turns to his companions, makes an almost inaudible comment about "a good place to stop," and collapses to the ground. For once, the gnome is out of words.

With her keen ears, Natalia is the first to hear Shiny's comment. Turning around to see the normally talkative gnome collapse to the ground, barely able to walk, she turns to the others and say, "...Should stop." Her feet were also already starting to complain.
