Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Hmm. Turns out we had a bible from 1768 on our bookshelf. My aprents are now spending the evening poring over that while my dad bitchily forbids me from going near it without any adequate explanation.
Sure, he'll trust me with mummified human fingers from thousands of years ago because THEY'RE not family heritage, but allowing me to get my hands on his precious 244 year old book, noooooooo.
(Disclaimer: I am only referring to the text in terms of its age and sentimental value in the family, I'm not discussing religion, it would be the same if it turned out we had a first edition of 'A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy'.)Spoiler: This signature is a historical relic from a long-ago time of regular forum activity.Aww man! Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Hey, family bibles are a very important thing. God knows (heh, accidental puns are punny) what my grandfather would have done to my father if he touched that thing. Hell, really anything old, the young of my family are forbidden from touching. Or maybe its just me.
@v geez. Then I dunno. I assume old bible=family. Myeeeeh.Last edited by Mutant Sheep; 2012-10-11 at 11:38 PM.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Mutant, it isn't a family bible.
^ Well yeah, it's been in the family for god knows how long, but it's not something we, like, remember. I didn't even know about it until today. My family does not make use of it in the slightest or anything. I don't think it counts.Last edited by MoonCat; 2012-10-12 at 12:03 AM.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Seeing how the pollen season ends long before any snow (unless you live somewhere weird), finding snow that's yellow only thanks to pollen is practically unheard of.
Typical Swedish lake water, however, has a yellow tone, so if you drench snow with it, it'll take on that hue as well. Despite the colour, however, it isn't really dangerous in any way.

There was frost when I woke up this morning. It covered the lawns and the roofs and made the maple leaves all clattery as they fell from our neighbours' tree. Pretty! :smallglisteningeyes:

Herbs omnomnom. I'm not much for spices in food, but for some reason, when we have a plant standing in the kitchen (chives, in this case), I can't stop myself from constantly eating of it.Last edited by Teddy; 2012-10-12 at 08:39 AM.

Today I woke up and everything outside has a layer of frost over it, like Teddy. I must agree that yes, it does look beautiful.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
I am feeling very positive. I may well have finally managed to get a job. More than that, there is a decent chance I can choose from two jobs! Yay, less stress over I-have-no-money.
One of them is a fairly drudging retail job, and the other is being a door-to-door collector for charity. I think I'll probably go for the retail job, honestly, since they both pay roughly the same. Because I live in Aberdeen, and the charity job involves much travel and walking around the north east of Scotland for significant stretches of time.
And Scotland is cold, wet and miserable. Well, OK, it's sometimes quite nice and striking, what with the sea and the rolling hills... but mostly cold and wet. And I do not enjoy walking around in those conditions.
Still, JOB! Happiness is a reaper of souls."Not trusting me might be the smartest decision you made since getting off of your horse."

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Thank you. Do you have any example of the jewelry that pleases you? I ask this in full knowledge, of course, that not everybody spends the time lusting after gems that I do.
There was a ring at the art gallery gift shop for a while -- it was a silver band carved delicately into oak leaves and acorns with a very pretty port-coloured garnet, small but flawless and saturated, set in the middle. That kind of thing?
All parts of this post are relevant to my interests. You'll have to show me one day what you mean in that first part, though.
Yes, the gradual and peaceful suffusion of gentle blue before dawn is a beautiful thing, finally bursting into the fiery glory of sunrise. To watch it would be a better use of insomniac time than thrashing about in bed frustrated, surely.
Do you not heat the house on cold windy nights?
It would be less. The lowest notes have fewer strings. Starting at one string, and then two before going to three.
I do believe the reason for that is firstly, there's not enough room for three strings fir each of the lowest notes, and secondly, because the higher notes have such thin strings that they would both be very soft and very easily damaged were there only one.
At least, I think that's the reason.
The higher notes have three strings, I think, more because one of those tiny strings wouldn't produce enough noise. Likewise the lower ones have only the one string because their thickness produces more than enough sound. - although certainly, space and fragility are a factor as well.
Also thanks for your complements on my ring-a-ling
Mmmmm, yes. My favourites to nibble are sage and coriander, especially the green unripe seed pods.
I've always found chives too pungent to nibble on their own, though -- or do you have chives of superior delicacy over there?
Here, sir! One Internets depicting an usual Australian summer for you.
