Quite useful to remember what the human body can do without and what parts can be reattached or substituted, more so in certain lines of works or particular cases of self destructiveness (though it is not recommended).

Your first picture there is quite appropriate, actually. I had been struggling to finish a presentation to give in class on Wednesday morning, and wound up having to stay up all night to finish it. The whole frustrating time through I felt so foolish, incompetent, and useless.

The presentation went fine, and I've had a chance to sleep, but holy smokes that was a dark, dark night.
Oh really? Perhaps I am psychic when it comes to my picture choices...
And thank you for your artwork. It made me laugh. It's not how I envision Mabel as a person, but that is likely because of her youth.

It is good that your presentation went well. I hate presentations...

A requiem is a song written in remembrance of someone who has died.
That's the short version. I think there's a much more complicated definition out there...

And not knowing what is meant by Philistine merely proves that the word is applicable. Not that I consider you as such.

Actually... You can get drunk on chocolate. It just requires eating about ninety kilograms of it. Which in my case, is my body weight.

Dates? Dear god, your school sux. Memorizing anything except the century the event happened (or, if its all a period of like, 10 years or something, then MAYBE a year is ok) is for lame. I mean... unless its a war. then you should know the dates by heart and recite the commanding officers.

Her youth?! Oh dear. Let me tell you Mabel's sad life story my friend.

I adopted her from an intern at my work. Three or so years before, her mother purchased Mabel -- and a budgie cage -- and Mabel's yellow mate -- from a garage sale. She wanted only the cage for a canary, but the lady selling it insisted she take both birds as well.

So the mother proceeds to buy also a canary in a canary cage. She then puts Mabel and her mate in the canary cage, and puts the canary in the budgie cage. Mabel's mate died shortly afterwards.

This is a picture of the cage, which I got when I adopted her. It is way too small for one budgie, let alone two; it is rusty!

Not only that, but the seeds they were feeding her were rancid.

So for three years, Mabel lived alone and unwanted in this little rusty canary cage. Nobody took her out of her cage, nobody played with her, and all she got to eat was seeds. THEY DIDN'T EVEN NAME THEM. They called them "Cheech and Chong" as a pair, but after Mabel's mate died, they didn't know which was which and didn't call her anything. The intern and her family were eager to get rid of this poor unwanted budgie. When I mentioned in passing that I liked birds, it was her idea!

She was a terrified, overweight, pitiful, quiet thing when I took her. Isn't it horrible?!?! I have done my best to socialize her, love her, and let her get exercise and good food.

She is currently sitting on my shoulder, chirping along with me and nibbling various parts of my head. It has been a delightful process to bring her out of her shell. At any rate, you see why I drew her as a cute old lady.

You have never seen a cockroach? Do they not lurk in the sewers beneath your cities, invading your homes in search of warmth and shelter?
Then you are indeed fortunate. They are a pest most difficult to vanquish.
Fortunately, the ones we have here are silent and do not hiss or chirp. But we also have the flying variety...
No! No such thing! I have heard how perniciously hardy they are. *hugs* May you never be afflicted with them.

Hmm... But the budgies here in Australia seem to be at peace...

Oh dear... That is a story so unnecessarily and tragically common in this world. People take on a pet without knowing how to properly care for it. And they assume that it is simple.
And when it is an animal that is traditionally kept confined, they forget about them. I can forgive not socialising a fish as it is so rarely their nature to socialise, but birds are vital and intelligent.
This is why I do not wish to keep a bird. I always fear that I will not be able to care for them properly and am afraid I would unintentionally injure them as I have strong hands.

I apologise for my confusion. But now everything makes sense.

Unfortunately, it is too late. Even now they remain concealed beyond my reach. And despite my best efforts to extirpate them, they keep coming back.
Fortunately, I have not seen a flying one for years.

that woudl mean you don't often wear them or that hey are new. If you don't sometimes walk in thsoe shoes the leather becomes rigid so when you wear them again they will hurt your feet like hell. That's why you need to pre-wear your shoes to ensure you get used to them and that they get molded to your feet and that the leather becomes pliant. Remember to once in a while wear your shoes so they won't hurt your feet as bad (it's the same as not wearing your shoes all the time to keep them from getting smelly and in a decent condition). Oh, and if they have been roughed up for a bit, leather soles are absolutely the best. they walk so smoothly you feel like walking on clouds. You just need to rough them up a bit because otherwise you slip and slide everywhere and probably end up in a position that is not comfortable when having to dangly bits (like a split and such). Internet! Sweet, blessed internet! *breathes in interwebz like I haven't breathed air for two days*

Boyfriend and I decided to go to Ele's place 'cause of:

    1. We're practically out of food because the person who was meant to buy food didn't and instead bought an electric guitar (including amp).
    2. We had a small storm at our unit in Nundah, QLD - AUS. Which in turn cut our internet somewhere along the line, and Telstra said it may take up to two weeks to fix. Considering the morning of the day our internet got cut out (it died in the afternoon) I had just discovered Eve Online and wanted to try it... Yeah, I'm annoyed.

    So yeah. #End rant.

P.S. And neither my boyfriend nor I have money for food until Monday/Tuesday next week either. We've been surviving on two-minute noodles, but just had enough of them today, so I called up Ele and yeah, here we are.

Actually, I do wear them reasonably often, and they are not new. They are, however, cheap faux-leather with somewhat rough cloth insoles over an inch and a half of solid rubber. If I'd been wearing my dad's old leather Dockers, we'd have a completely different story, because those are the best shoes ever - so I agree that leather can be extremely comfortable, just not so much these particular shoes.

Recently, I learned that in some Germanic folktales, the Devil lives in the woods with his grandmother, who holds his head on her lap and combs his hair to put him to sleep at night. This is the most adorable thing I've ever heard about the Devil.
