Re: Judgement
The priest leading the group has been quietly walking the entire day, taking in the relative calm of the surroundings when compared with the chaos and death of the city.
As the evening approaches, he consults the navigator.
"Is there anywhere good to make camp nearby?"

"Once I've done. Still in progress and might not be finished in morning." Turns to priest (Murska) "Mind helping me with where we're going? Map would be useful and you seem to know where we're headed."
"I'll hear anything so long as you're okay with it being written!"

Re: Judgement
"I know the Holy Sanctuary we are supposed to be heading for, but the way is unclear - I am afraid I feel more at home indoors than out in the woods, no matter how beautiful or peaceful.
This is why I intend to consult our Navigator." He gestures to the man you were just talking to. (Matthias)

Re: Judgement
During the night, a lone wolf howl, as if in response to a call. Before anyone could muster any good defence, a whole pack of wolves surround the carriage, growling hungrily and they encircle the party, just out of the range of light, giving them a terrifying visage of doom.
Suddenly, a chicken flies through the air, landing on Superdark's head, and the wolves pounce, tearing with claws and teeth at the unfortunate victim.
He never stood a chance.
Among his remains, there are 7 rations of food and 20 gold.
Day/Night 3 begins
And ends sometime Sunday.

The priest inconspicuously takes the money from the bar.

Re: Judgement
In the daylight, the girl notices a crumpled up piece of parchment in her cage. She uncrumples it, reads it, crumples it back up again, and tosses it at the priest (Murksa).

Re: Judgement
The barmaid that had been silent so far, for one reason or another, finally shows her text color . . . er, true colors? No, meh whatever she finally speaks anyway.
"If we all had died, how would she have gotten out of the cage? Are wolves able to work locks now?' She speaks rather coldly of this preposterous idea.We love plural first person personal pronouns.
Rejoice in the bosom of white text our child.

Re: Judgement
The priest reads through the parchment and blinks. Then he stands up from his meditative posture, seeming a little stiff, and walks over to the man speaking in riddles. (Penguinator)
Placing a hand on his shoulder, he speaks.
"Firstly, we should give him a proper burial before we start going through his things. And secondly, his fate was quite clearly divine judgment for stealing from a man of the cloth - I am sure you will be willing to return to my purse the ten gold pieces he took in the night."

Re: Judgement
(Ah, he's not so much a man who speaks in riddles as he is a wandering priest who happened by. As he's not from around here, he wasn't "chosen" to be priest for the trip as it were. He is, however, still a priest)
The priest nodded, dropping the (ten) coins into the man's palm.
"You mean he stole from you as well?
The night before he took my lot.
Which is rather rude, to tell,
In truth, these coins are all I've got."

Re: Judgement
"Well, I guess it's too late to turn around now. Let's just hope those wolves don't come back." The navigator hesitates before continuing. "Priests, if you could prepare this poor man, or what remains of him, for his funeral."

Re: Judgement
"Indeed. I generally live without coin to my name, as God and His servants on Earth provide, but for this trip I was given these funds by the Church so that I may succeed in my task."
He speaks louder, hoping to gather some help from the others.
"Regardless of whether he was a thief or not, it is not for us to judge him anymore. He will receive what he deserves, and as good Christians we need to bury him before we continue. Does anyone have a shovel or the like?"

Re: Judgement
"So does that mean I have to bury him? Not that I'd mind a chance to stretch my legs, even if it involves digging a hole. Or do you intend to keep me in this cage the entire trip so that I become too weak and feeble to even speak up for myself by the time we arrive?" the girl asked.

Re: Judgement
Taner steps forward at the priests call. "I will help you bury that man. It would not be proper to let a woman bury a disfigured body and it is our duty I suppose. I do not have a shovel but I believe we can improvise if nobody has anything useful for the task.
However, I believe keeping the girl locked in a cage like that is inhumane. She is treated worse than an animal. Surely there will come no harm from letting her stretch her legs a little."TigerPony avatar by Akrim.elf

Re: Judgement
"The problem is, we don't have the slightest idea what she's capable of. I would have her bound and gagged, just to make sure she doesn't try anything. She's suspected of witchcraft, after all.
And come to think of it, I have a shovel here." The navigator pulls a somewhat smallish spade from a pile of stuff on the carriage. "It's not the best for grave-digging, but it'll have to do."

Re: Judgement
"We can take proper precautions and let her out of the cage once we're somewhere civilized. There's too many chances to escape in these woods, and we don't know what unholy powers she's sold her soul for. Especially when some of us are digging a grave and preparing the body, and another wolf attack could leave everyone unable to prevent her escape.
Her imprisonment does not cause her any lasting harm, in any case."
He points at Taner and the navigator.
"You two should dig the grave, I will be preparing the body with him." Him, in this case, is accompanied with a gesture towards the riddley priest.

Re: Judgement
Taner taking the spade from the navigator without a word begins digging the grave in what he believed to be an appropriate spot. After days of travel and outdoor sleep he wasn't exactly in top shape but it wasn't the first time he traveled. He quickly lost himself in his work grateful for the opportunity to distract himself from the dark thoughts caused by seeing someone die such a violent death.
He didn't let anyone else help him as he dug a hole large enough and deep enough to accommodate the deceased. He used to work as a blacksmith before he got himself into this mess so digging a hole didn't even leave him tired and he finished surprisingly fast. Once he was done he went to see if the priests were ready with the body.
"The grave, such as it is, is ready." He told them in a grave tone.TigerPony avatar by Akrim.elf

Re: Judgement
Alexia steps forward. I agree with Taner. It is cruel to keep her locked up. It is too long of a journey. She should be allowed a moment to walk, under supervision, and also relieve herself. she steps forward again, raising her hand. I volunteer to watch her.

Re: Judgement
"I agree on letting her walk a bit, but not now and not here. We need to get on the road as soon as we're done with the burial. Once we've reached the next village, it shouldn't be too far, we'll gather a group to watch her."
