It's like that south, too. The first week of December is apparently feeling hotter than any of November was, and I've been sweating. I am distinctly remembering some bitter-cold days in November, and while I'm not asking for them back, I do want to know where they went to.

Spider webs come back in warm weather. I noticed immediately. All I'm saying, where my winter at.

ION: So there's a local marathon in January. I've ran half-marathon distances before without closing in on the breaking point; I'm thinking that trying the full go isn't impossible. Of course there's a difference between 50% and 100% of something, especially marathons. I believe some measure of preparation is expected of me.

I'll be alright. But its so hot and dry coupled with a number of other things does make one distressed. I have never coped well with the heat. Did I mention it's dry? I just feel my energy being sapped away into the stillness...

You've been lying to us all this time!
I remember the summer I spent in Chennai, and being able -- strangely -- to survive the daily near-50 C because it was so constantly and saturatedly humid. I rode a bicycle across the city in rush-hour traffic daily in that heat [and let us not speak of the inhumanity of the traffic itself, nor the times I nearly lost my life]. Heat must be damp; cold must be dry.

May I do anything to alleviate your distress? Link my city's forecast for the week, or supply snuggly pictures of my feathered kinsfolk?

& I am a budgie natively, but I claim under my shape-shifting province all cute birds.

Indeed. Humidity results in a different, slightly more bearable, kind of heat.

No, I do not believe being tormented with forecasts for snow and cold weather would help, and pictures of birds would simply make me shudder at the thought of wearing feathers.
It's very difficult to think of anything else but the heat unfortunately. At least the air doesn't smell of smoke any more.

    Hmm... I can believe that.

It is strange, since humidity at lower levels of heat is more uncomfortable -- however my cinnamon-coloured tempter told me how in his home Rajasthan people can die of exposure in the summer, where as in coastal Chennai [where we met] it is not a danger in spite of being actually higher temperatures.

Similarly, the January/February cold snap here that descends into the -40 C range -- because it is so dry -- feels far less cold than say -5 C I have felt during the rare times when it is damp.

My point being that I have sympathy for you; and invite you to the heartland of Canada, but a brief budgie ride away.

Hmm... The humidity likely slows down the rate of dehydration in the heat.
At least, if I remember my chemistry correctly. And if one is dehydrated, the heat will kill them faster.

Unfortunately, most budgies are incapable of carrying a fully grown human, so alas, I must remain here in Australia.

Phew, you have no idea how exhausting it is to try and put up a light strand without tearing down too much snow from the tree wearing full winter accoutrements. But I managed to put up the strand and wipe away the tracks after me.

... just to notice that the strand was hanging too loosely on the side turned toward the most windows, making for a rather mediocre display. At first, I just wanted to give up and fix it some other day, but I really hate to leave a job half-finished, so after a few minutes, I said "screw this" and went outside to fix it. It looks a lot better now, and in an hour or two, it'll be nigh impossible to see that anyone was outside to start with if this snowfall continues.

Just a little darker, and I'll plug it in for anything else than testing purposes...

    IRN:
My new jacket is a freaking fortress! I was standing with my arms straight up in the air, and heavy loads of snow fell straight down on them as I accidently upset the large mounds resting on the trees branches, and yet not a single flake got inside the arms. I really like my jacket!

You know what's really weird to do when your mouth is still half numb from anaesthetic (having been to the dentist to have fillings done)? Cold drinks. Half my tongue could not feel the cold. SO WEIRD.

    You too?

Yeah, I mentioned one of my nightmares offhand to a psych student and he asked me to keep a dream journal for him to analyze. I said no.

I was like this for almost a week when my wisdom teeth got out. I was either numb from painkillers or couldn't feel anything besides pain because I was refusing to take more painkillers. I really need to figure out how to take pills...
