I don't know, I think I like Klaus' wardrobe as it is. It seems to project a lot of power. Or maybe it's the guy wearing it.

(Really, though, whoever did Klaus' stitches couldn't sew a finer line than that? Even if it's emergency surgery, neatness counts!)

And I note his left arm and torso have a slightly different skin color than the rest. That brother must have been odd man out.

The Wulfenbachs are simply no fashion sparks. Tarvek, for example, would have made perfectly neat seams, tinted the body parts to match AND would have designed a new outfit for him.

The first coat shown here (this is what Klaus wears at the very beginning and when activating the time bomb) is the most commanding outfit I've seen in this comic so far. Other scary outfits, such as the one Von Pinn wears, are intimidating enough but are more suitable to minions than to leaders. You simply won't take a dictator seriously who dresses like a dominatrix. Also, the spiked stuff the Jägers like is just plain silly. The members of the Storm King conspiracy (Tarvek, Tweedle, Seffie, but also Aaronev and Zola) are on the other end of the scale. They dress like high nobles (probably because they are), which is fancy, but that's again not something a dictator would wear.

In conclusion, Klaus's current outfit is the best suited one for someone the caliber of Klaus. It's intimidating enough to be fit for a dictator instead of a populist leader, but fancy enough to think of him as a serious politician instead of some kind of monster. The one he wore at the battle of Sturmhalten wasn't bad either, but this is the best one.

I think who the baron surrounds himself with, namely the people who think they can eat reasonable men before breakfast, says more about his position of strength than any amount of decadence in dress.

And of course he wants his empire to think he is a reasonable man. If they thought he was unreasonable, blaming their problems on him would be much easier. Instead, as when he was dealing with recalcitrant cities, everyone knows that he is more in his right mind than any ruler in several hundred years. And so nobody can get together a populist revolt. There are lots of revolts by madboys and decadent nobles, but the common man, despite their grumbling about the Baron, prefers him to all the other options.

Quite simply, the knights' plan was the only way to change rulership in the Empire, and it mostly would have worked because Gil was starting to develop a reputation as a furniture chewer. Once Gil came out of hiding, I doubt even the Heterodyne fairy tale could have saved the Knights' plan.

Eh, killing der kestle and declaring the Jaegers traitors to Mechanicsburg would have worked for the rest of europa. I think the Knight's plan never had a chance of actually convincing the people of Mechanicsburg.

Honestly, Tiktoffen's plan had the best chance of that, and even then, Der Kestle would never have rung the bell for him.

Depends where you put the fashion clank, canonically and chronologically speaking. The remade magic wand in the Cinderella parody also talked, though that could have just been an UI thing rather than it expressing itself.

The Othar-rescuing clank spoke, but that may also have been a UI thing -- it never exactly answered anybody that I remember.

(Around half serious here.) The fashion clank clearly belongs to the fictional-in-story continuity of the radio plays. Recent developments may confirm that there is no historical (in-story) period when it could have taken place: Agatha is adventuring openly under the name Agatha Heterodyne, so it cannot take place before the present in the webcomic; however, she meets people whose idea of how she can help is to get a message to Baron Wulfenbach, so it can hardly take place after the fall of the Empire, as neither Klaus or Gil is thereafter likely to be the go-to person for getting rid of cannibals with giant rabbits.

Speaking of clanks that talk, I could swear that one of the radio plays had a "Sleepy Clank" that made manacing threats at people who disturbed the Mistress's slumber.

It was destroyed by Jenka and a hoard of Jaegers.
