Ooh, Saor just announced a new album in 2016. That's gonna be awesome.

Now if only Wodensthrone would man up and make some more music.

    This seems appropriate.

As for keeping up with music, oh man, I wish I could. I simply don't have enough time, especially with so much good stuff being released so often. If not for the trinity of Pandora, Youtube subscriptions, and following music reviewers on Facebook, I'd probably still think it was 20010.

I also have music playing pretty much constantly, which gives me a lot of exposure time - even though the evening music is mostly reserved for repeated listens of music I like and want to buy or have bought.

I don't have quite as much available listening time, but there are certainly times in my day where I could fit youtube listens or the like with no real downside.

Yeah, I started reading AMG recently, partially due to the reduction in autothrall's output as a result of his insistence on reproducing, and saw a few comments that you'd made. What does your own research entail? The usual "Band X that I like is connected in some way (shared member/toured with/etc) Band Y" stuff, or do you do other things beyond that?

Yeah, and Andy Marshall is a great musician. Can't wait.

And hell yeah I do! They're from my home city, after all. A mate of mine actually did the artwork for their first demo/EP. And The Devil Within is great.

Yeah, I like AMG. They have a high standard of reviews.

I do a lot of "Similar Artists" on Metal Archives on bands that I like, yeah, and I also check out a couple of labels' pages on Bandcamp regularly... if I liked their previous output, chances are I'd like any of their new stuff too. Nordvis is great for atmospheric black metal for instance, and so on. Sometimes it's just a recommended link on Youtube, and sometimes I just randomly follow tags for genres that I like. And I generally listen to whatever autothrall rates highly, heh. But yeah, lately he's been a bit quiet.

I listened to them a bit when I saw them on a few year end lists, but I thought Enforcer and Visigoth put out better trad metal records last year.

Speaking of retro metal, new Holy Grail. The chorus and the solos are a lot of fun, as ever. I'm hoping the album as a whole has riffs more in the vein of the teaser, but they're solid in the single as well.

I could use more power metal fitting that description myself. Helstar maybe?

Destruction are releasing a new album this year, apparently. They claim it's their best and most original work in recent years, which will be nice should it turn out to be true. Much as I adore The Antichrist, that particular well is running a bit dry for them.

I've been mentioning Axel Rudi Pell - it's pretty straightforward power metal really. Check it out, maybe you enjoy it.

So Ulver is releasing an album of live, instrumental jamming tracks soonish. I listened to the advance tracks, it's pretty cool. Will definitely be checking that out in full.

Thanks for the recommendations, though I'm afraid neither is quite what I'm looking for.

Also, totally off-topic, but I have to get in my obligatory Tukaaria worship in case I haven't in this thread yet. Mythology remains one of the most beautiful black metal songs I've ever heard, and it accomplishes that without any overblown orchestral nonsense or keyboard glitter.

    So stoked for Wildernessking.

Also - I'm pretty sure new Amon Amarth was confirmed? One of my writers just interviewed them about the story behind their new record...

As per Eight Bells - I'm seeing them three, maybe four times on their upcoming tour with Voivod only because they are thoroughly covering my part of the East Coast. I'm dying of happiness

For what it's worth, I found something that sort of fits it-- Liege Lord. Try it out, you might enjoy it.

Also, why is it so dang hard to find extreme metal drummers? I'm at wit's end because my drummer is majorly dragging his feet on our demo and I don't know anybody else who could do it. Pointless complaining, feel free to ignore.

    Not bad at all.

Recording drums is probably going to be a pain no matter who's behind the kit on account of how much extra studio time you need for setting the drums up and taking them down. My brother's band had to record the drums note-by-note in ProTools for the album they're working on because they couldn't get enough time in the Berkelee studios. Apparently that's the case for more up and coming bands without big record deals than you'd imagine. Of course, I don't know the exact situation, so there's a good chance you already know all of this and the problem is being exacerbated by your drummer.

If that doesn't pan out and you don't mind turning to the internet, I could possibly help with that (I know, I was just complaining about lack of drummers... for the faster variants of death metal such as my band plays I'm no good, but for doom and the less blast-happy variants of black metal I do fine), particularly since I actually have access to decent recording stuff now. Just a thought.

Been listening to Abbath's first solo album. I don't really know what I was expecting, but it's actually really really good. Like, better than recent Immortal. Awesome.

As per Eight Bells - I'm seeing them three, maybe four times on their upcoming tour with Voivod only because they are thoroughly covering my part of the East Coast. I'm dying of happiness
Yeah, look like it's been confirmed. Hope it's good; the last album of theirs I really enjoyed was Surtr Rising. Most recent one was a bit meh.

Awesome. Oh, and also, damn you

Right? I'm not a huge fan which makes sense since it's not really the type of black metal I normally dig but i's still damn good. Now if only we could find out why he keeps going through band members

Also - Ermehgerd Alcest just announced that they are recording a new album Day=Made

The single's out. Not the best lyrics they've ever penned, but other than that it's about what you'd hope for out of Amon Amarth.

So, I'm seeing Behemoth, Entombed, Entombed AD, Abbath, Inquisition tomorrow, and to be honest I don't know any of them that well. I figured this thread could help me out with a couple of characteristic and/or must-hear tracks from each?

Also, what is up with the whole Entombed vs. Entombed AD thing?

    Well, I don't know...
It's good, but looking at singles / openers, I was more impressed by Deceiver of the Gods and War of the Gods.
