Hopefully the latter. I rather liked her.
I'm quite fond of Laurin as well, but I don't think we need to worry. Blackwing was fascinated by the Rift, too, and he got knocked out of it when the Explosive Runes went off. Laurin will likely be okay now that she's been yanked back.

    Now that's a plot twist.

If one remaining gate isn't enough to confine the Snarl, the rest of this story is going to be very, very brief.

You're right, it is. You can clearly see the droplets near the bottom, especially by Laurin's feet.

So, I guess this means that at least it's not a total illusion, there is actually water in there. And also that stuff can cross the portal plane without getting destroyed or something.

Well... that last panel (and dat cliffhanger!) sure looks like the last page of a book.

Also: compare Laurin's eyes to Blackwing's eyes while they are staring into the rift.

    Super-Grim Thought.

The Snarl is a living manifestation of Diefic conflict, Anger, and Frustration.

The Snarl claims the very souls of those it kills.

Maybe it created an entire world where it can 'vent' it's basic emotional construct upon the souls it has captured.....

I think it's the natural reaction of a probs-epic level adventurer who's intelligence score is higher than the average Solar seeing something that she has absolutely no clue what to make heads or tails of.

One other interesting thing to note (besides the whole "gigantic snarl thing"), is that Tarquin was found by Laurin and brought back to Bleedingham.

And the soldiers standing around are clearly from the Empire of Sweat, which makes sense if Laurin is now in control of the valley.

10 years and 945 comics for the main antagonist to appear. Now that's a wait.

Maybe Lauren was communicating with it mentally? Maybe it can speak? Or form an avatar?

Maybe it's one of those commonplace modern plot twists where everything's not like it was described and the good gods are actually evil and the Snarl is actually good.
How to turn off these annoying .sigs:

    1. Edit your profile options.
    2. Scroll down to "Visible Post Elements".
    3. Uncheck "Show Signatures".
    4. Save changes.
    5. Enjoy a much less cluttered and noisy forum.

A little "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" action, eh?

Or, you know, other places where souls get tortured for eternity.

... and "good" allows for killing indiscriminately. (But that's not an "in" for another long-F-word debate!)

Theory: The Snarl or Rift grows a new Earth (or whatever stick-planet is) inside of it. And as the Snarl grows it envelops the current Earth. Eventually only the new Snarl-planet remains and time starts over again :)

Laurin was seeing the first life forms, maybe bacteria and single celled organisms.

Just a wild thought. What if the planet inside the Rift was the original dimension the Snarl undid and that, somehow, put itself together again? Or that the Snarl itself, slowly experimenting, is putting together again?

Well at least Laurin's favor is settled. Maybe we'll be lucky and Team Tarquin will die here. We don't need them to reoccur villainously.
