Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Natalia dodges the first two attacks but the third slashes across her arm. Bringing the wound up to her face she looks up at Shiny and Mithril, both behind her. She's between this demon and them. She needs to fight hard and fast and Shiny cast that spell to make her invisible but he needs to help Stephan more. And there are the shadows in her mind, watching, waiting, stirring.
And this time she reaches into her mind, and she grabs the shadows, and she pulls them out. Lets them settle over her, but not into her as she fades from view. "Mine," she growls as she attacks again, punctuating each syllable with an invisible slash. "Mine but not me! Beast! Collared!"
Spoiler: Attack!I hope this works after that dramatic statement. And since Shiny hasn't gone yet he's still flatfooted and has -2 to AC too, right? Actually, he's flatfooted anyway since I'm invisible against him!

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Drawing forth a cloak of shadow, Natalia moves swiftly forward and slashes deeply into the creature. Three of her blows land, but as they do she realizes that the creature is able to avoid being struck where it is vulnerable, and her blades glance off of its flesh. Looking down at herself, to her shock, she sees she is still visible.
Spoiler
Unfortunately, as seen earlier with Shiny's spell, invisibility effects don't work in the view of the Many Eyes.

Rhenner flies after Stephan, though he keeps a distance to the vrock, so he doesn't get into its reach. "So eager to fly into danger you can't even wait for your healing to finish", he quips before casting a second healing spell on Stephan.

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Mithril's spell badly wounds the creature, but it stays steady, and with one more roar tries to finish off the wounded warrior.
Spoiler
So close.
I'm afraid I am on my phone for a few hours and not able to post for the Vrock. Would someone, perhaps Coffee if she's not on her phone, be willing to roll for its attack on Stephan? It will use exactly the same rolls as it did in its last full attack on Natalia. (What a bummer that he always gets the worst of it, but then this kind of beast is more inclined to go for the enemy it can kill than the one who deals it more damage).

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
She wasn't expecting the eyes to pierce the shadows and gloom. BUt in a way, it's as much a relief as it is scary. Still, as Mithril strikes the demon and it claws into Stephan again, she flips her blades, takes a deep breath, and exhales as she lets it out in a flurry of five brutal blows. It's not paying attention to her--and that should be its fatal mistake.

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Natalia watches the demon fall, panting as her pulse slows. She sheathes her blades, looks down at her hands, and says, "Demon slayers..." She chews her lip and looks at Mithril, and everyone else. "summoned here? Maybe more, don't know. Never read..." Looking down at the abyss she asks, "Search for what lost? Or through...and hope on shore later?"

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
"I doubt these are the only ones." Rhenner casts two more healing spells on Stephan. One of the ordinary kind and another that allows his body to heal itself faster, rather than fixing it directly by magic. "It works slower, but the results are usually more reliable."
SpoilerMaster's Touch to CMW: (2d8+13)[26] and a Lesser Vigor after that, the latter will heal 17 HP in 15 rounds. (I'd really like a wand with that spell.. ^^)
By my calculation, Stephan is at 31/78, prior to this healing.
If he has time (I don't know how many rounds it takes for us to decide where to go), he'll also use the CLW wand on Natalia.Last edited by CWater; 2014-08-19 at 03:31 AM.

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Natalia leads the way in diving down into the darkness to search for Stephan's sword, with the rest of the party close behind.
For a few seconds they plunge into the darkness. Though they can fly rather quickly downward, they're aware they almost certainly won't up to their lost weapons if they fall freely. But as they soar downward, something juts out at them so quickly they can barely swerve to avoid it- a sinewy stretch of spider-web several feet wide reaching from the thick curtain over to the stony side of the valley, small spiders moving along it. They can't see the sword on it, but focusing one's eyes into the darkness reveals that webs like these stretch all over the canyon in a vast network, growing thicker as they go deeper.
Spoiler
For how long will you want to descend before giving up and going back up?
Also make a spot check, everyone.

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
The party descends, having to slow a bit to avoid colliding with the tangle of webs as it grows denser. They scan the webs for a sign of the fallen weapons, but see mostly arachnids weaving their way through. A couple of times each of them finds a tiny spider on their clothes, fallen from the webs they are gliding past, and has to shake it off.
After about thirty seconds of descending, Natalia spots an object in the tangle ahead.
Spoiler
Is the object Natalia's longbow (1) or Stephan's sword (2)? (1d2)[1]
The spot check for this one is good so I don't need the others. Only reason Natalia spotted it before Stephan is that she has darkvision right now, which reaches farther than torches.
If you choose to keep descending (may depend on what you find of course) will need a second Spot check from the gang.

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Bad idea bad idea this was a bad idea. Natalia resists the urge to bolt upwards screaming, which grows stronger with every spider that drops on her clothes, but this urge is quelled the moment she sees something sticking out of the webs.
"Bow!" she shouts, pausing to yank it free and very deliberately not looking at the tiny spiders and threads of web that still stick to it. "But...no sword seen. Should...want keep looking?"

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
As Natalia flies closer to the web, she sees that it is lightly stuck to the web, with a few dozen small spiders swarming around it. She reaches out and is able to yank it free in a hurried motion- and once it is her hand, she jolts backwards in horror as she sees something new- a pair of green eyes deeply embedded into the webs, staring outwards in a horrifying glare.

Re: IC VIII Lost in the Flood
Mithril studies the eyes for a few moments. Long idle trips through the knowledge of her hometown library had granted her a sense of the distinguishing features to look for in its size, shape and pattern, and soon she becomes confident that the eyes belong(ed) to a drow, as it shares some characteristics with Ildan and with the warriors they'd faced in the arena.
More intriguing to her is that while she can see no creature in the web that the eyes might belong to, the eyes are quite clearly alive.Last edited by Admiral; 2014-08-20 at 11:12 PM.
