MLP: Friendship Is Magic is a reboot of the MLP franchise by Powerpuff Girls artist Lauren Faust, currently viewed by (almost) the entire Internet, not only the intended audience. Here is a place where we discuss the joy of friendship.

It's a clever show. It has excellent writing, character dynamics, humor, animation, and generally treats kids seriously rather than condescending to them. It has every right to be a 20 minute corporate committee designed infomercial, but it's not.

> Isn't this a show for little girls?

Pixar technically makes shows for little boys, and produce some of the best animation in the world.

> Okay, fine. I'll give it a try. Where do I start?

No Brony could ask for more. I recommend watching the episodes in order. They're all up on Youtube. Unusually, Hasbro seems fine with having the entire series up in public because they've made no move to bring down any of the episodes. Search for "Friendship is Magic Episode 1" and you should find the series pretty easily... Or search for "Sharing is Magic" Google Doc. That is all.

Whoa, calm down there. The show is light hearted, optimistic fun but it's not for everyone. It's good fun, the community is good fun, and everyone can do with a reminder that friendship is magic but if it doesn't gel for you we'll love and tolerate you anyway. Plus, you might hit the wrong episode. Ask first?

All in good fun! If it's not your cup of tea, skim it, but this show has triggered a great creative outpouring from the Internet. Pony themed fan-art is abundant and often excellent. See below for some examples.

> Derpy Hooves/Doctor Whoof

Two minor background characters who were adopted as emblems of 4chan. Derpy Hooves is so named due to an animation error in the first episode that had her eyes facing in different directions; 4chan has assigned her the role of Ponyville's mailpony, and her only line so far has been "Muffins". The show's animators are aware of Derpy's popularity and she's shown up a few times recently with her eyes obviously derped. Currently made canon in Feeling Pinkie Keen and in Faust's picture showcased below, Derpy was deemed important enough to appear in storyboards for Season II.

Dr. Whoof is a pony with an hourglass cutie mark; he and his kin save time and space very quietly off camera.

I know a store locally that sells square donuts, but they charge more because bigger+novelty. I buy the ring-shaped ones because they're cheaper and still taste good. ^^;

Also Nova's coming up and it's still Sam Alexander. I don't know but I am starting to enjoying his storyline and speculating that he might be half-alien* (an improvement compared to Jeph's other works and Ultimate Spiderman, seriously). But I think I might anger Richard Rider fan here.
*I mean Marvel need to stop making them orphans and illegitmate offspring. I mean can't we have a humanoid alien who decided to settle down with a human in spite of former unable to adapt to earth (plus an alcoholic janitor after ~~deserting~~ retiring as Nova) and possible arrest by scientists if discovered.

According to the Dougumentery attached to the movie, it's because when the creator was a kid he never had flesh tone crayons, so his drawings of people would be in funky colors. According to a documentary about the "Nicktoons", it was so you couldn't tell a character's ethnicity on sight, and thus said something about racial equality.

I can see that. I rarely had flesh-tone crayons so I used to draw people in funny colors to conserve the rare colors. It's why I liked Martians a lot. I always had plenty of green.

I think we've answered the question to my satisfaction; no, he hasn't shown an aversion to physical affection (though he does have his sense on masculine pride sometimes, especially when attempting to impress Rarity), and thus I tweaked the line The Descendant brought up in Heart of the Matter.

Speaking of, concluding chapter is essentially done, bar pre-reading and my own incremental passes, and will be up in a few days.

Ponies really do! They make everyone feel extra groovy.

It's good to know. Though mine are woefully uncolored on the inside... I actually don't own any coloring tools anymore since I do almost all of my artsing via computer anymore.

I try to be proud of it, but at the same time I've always been told it's bad to be proud. Yeah, sometimes it feels like my parents were intending to deconstruct my personality entirely in my youth. Even today I can't share any achievements with my dad, because I get haunted by ...well, my whole family's past attempts to diminish them.

It's a weird kind of happy, like... I dunno. I get giddy and a little giggly and just plain happy, the kind that doesn't vanish in 30 seconds.

Domination sounds like fun! I don't know that it pays the bills, but indirectly I am still taking commissions for money and the advertising helps I think. :3

Right now I'm switching back and forth between a pencil sketch of Doc avoiding bullets (for my own personal lulz) and Photoshop coloring of a Starfleet officer (for actual money).

I have a case of Prisma brand markers but I rarely color them. I let my daughter do all the work with her big crayon collection. :3 My wife have me this weird thing called a 'Munny', which is a blank white doll with no face or features. It's meant to be colored on and I've been meaning to do that... thinking about it, maybe I can make it into a pony and ask one of my sisters to sew some clothes for it.

One thing I like about this episode is Spike. He doesn't contribute anything really; they could have left him out and it wouldn't have made much different to the ploy. But that's not the point. But he's THERE. Included, and not ignored.

On a second watch, I still concur with my first: my sympathies lie a little more towards AJ than Fluttershy.

Thought neither came out of this all that well.

Day count: 2; presumably autumn, since that the modal apple harvest time. (Placing this, Applebuck Season and Super Squeezy Cider 6000 together causes problems, since eithr AJ has harvests more than once per year or two of these have to happen in the same season; else you can't really have them in the space of one year. This episode also cannot tkae place in the season 5 era, since we see the library.)

I decided I kinda like this episode on the rewatch (I forget what my initial opinion was...) Pinkie is at her most Pinkie (either blissfully innocent or trolling like she was Trollestia's faitful student) and it's very character focussed on the four/five Apples, which is something we don't get to see as much where they're actually being unguarded amongst themselves.

Nothing like being over 90 minutes on a call with Internet tech support. However, I won the Tech Support Lottery: Something is wrong with the modem and they have never seen this issue before*. I kind of feel special.

These modems are all built with a unique factory set "Name", which is used for the SSID and the identifier at their end of every modem in use within their network. Well, for some reason this name started forwarding all our wireless devices to a server at the Internet company that doesn't exist. This problem could happen if more than one modem has the same SSID, BUT none of them have the same name as ours (they checked). They remotely reprogrammed a new name and suddenly the modem is working as it should. Sooooo, something with the factory name is the problem. Which is weird because only they have access to change that and they didn't see anything changed before the problem occurred. Fun!

So now they got to send a tech over on Sunday to physically get into the box and see why it's developed a brand new problem never before heard of.

My ISP provides a single-band wi-fi router to apartments. Each channel is triple camped. It makes it really weird.

Also speaking of networking. I customize warehouse control software. At the beginning of a project, the dev team brought up security for the client. Turns out they wanted to broadcast both IDs and passwords unencrypted from terminals to their server. Everyone had an aneurism.
