Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
Gengy while the writeup is very well done, I am not fine with all-the-animals as people. I'm not entirely sure if I want to approve a region of intelligent animals as it is but certainly not with such variety. Work on the people section and I'll come by it again.
Dimple, I think you're looking at the OOC map, you'll want to look under the Explore spoiler in the latest Round Open in the IC thread.Last edited by QuintonBeck; 2015-11-15 at 01:48 PM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
Tertius is done, pending approval (and I've set up some potential conflict down the road for the Imperium). Quartus is on the way.
---
Tertius (58)
Population: 712,000
Spoiler: TerrainTertius is a nation of lost glory. The mountains are full of massive statues and monuments forged from solid steel in a long forgotten age. Scaffolding and burned-out husks dot the landscape, indicating that Tertius had once played host to both massive construction and horrific conflict.
Still, it's a good place to visit if you want to dig into some archaeology.
Spoiler: PeopleTertians are actually similar to the people of Primus. They are a warrior culture with a strong emphasis on honor and dueling. They utilize a powerful metal that is not widely available elsewhere, and they are highly ambitious.
However, while the Primal have done everything in their power to prevent knowledge of their past from spreading, the Tertians have simply lost all knowledge of it. They seek it out as they can, and dearly wish to learn as much as they can.
The biggest difference (and the one with the most problems right now) is that they are patriarchal. Until Primus came along, men held sway over their lands, and women were little more than slaves. Primus liberated the women and gave them rights that the men did not. This massive difference in gender politics will undoubtedly will cause no small amount of friction between the two territories, but at the moment Primus is strong enough to drag their land kicking and screaming into Imperial glory.
Spoiler: ResourcesSteel [Good]: An old Empire (presumably the same one that once held sway over Secundus and Primus) once ruled this region. When it fell, most of the knowledge it granted was lost, but one piece of knowledge that stayed was how to forge steel. The people of the region use steel for much of their construction, allowing for the forging of truly wonderous objects that almost no one else can lay claim to.
Food: While Tertius is well-set in terms of construction, the mountain villages have little access to fertile land to grow food. As such, they require a food resource of one sort or another.
Spoiler: ReligionThere's no true religion in Tertius (in fact, it's believed that religion was once outlawed in the region entirely) but the people do hold honor and fair play in high esteem. They also believe that men and masculinity are the closest that a mortal can get to true divinity.Hate me if you want. But that's your issue to fix, not mine.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
It's actually a mix of Welsh and Gaelic, as established by Dark and followed by other Aeldir players. In Gaelic, 'Jungle' is loosely translated as 'Xungla'. I understand the possible dislike, based on the sound alone, but it is in keeping with previously established naming conventions, if a little odd. It just sounded better to me then 'Tir Selva'.

That... is possible. But if it is what I have been using, then I've been using it the entire time, making it consistent with my own writings, lol. I still like the name
However, I've gotta talk QB into liking the Salvax, so... this may be moot. Hopefully not!Updated the Region to include changes, after discussion with Quinton.Last edited by Gengy; 2015-11-15 at 06:22 PM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
Trades for Round 3!
I've added another column to the trade routes table indicating who currently owns the regions in question, though since that would need to be edited every time a region on the list changes hands I might not keep it for future rounds.
I think this is also currently the most up-to-date list of regions, regional resources, and regional ownership. If I've made any errors or omissions in your regions, please let me know.
Also please note that if you haven't defined a required resource for a region you own, it's a good idea to do that even if you don't have time to write up the rest of the region immediately, as when calculating resulting effects, an undefined requirement is treated as not being met automatically and this might lead to unrest or rebellion! Region stability will become more important in coming rounds so it's a good idea to get your ducks in a row now.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
Cheers Aed!
To keep with the somewhat martial theme of my actions this round, the Fiid military:
SpoilerFiid are a warlike people; hundreds of years ago, before cities were built around oases, family bands of Fiid wandered the deserts, killing over water. Now the Fiid have urbanised, fighting is a little more structured.
Fiid soldiers are part of the Traveller category. They are expected to march far away from their homeland, even into barbarian lands, to support their lord. This status is hereditary, with soldier families serving noble families for generations. There is a growing movement of Noble category Fiid who take up arms and fight in service of their lord, after swearing oaths of honour to the Doctrine. It remains to be seen how High Tirk Rabhid will view this. The Fiid word for these warriors is often translated as "Knight"; they are better armoured and equipped than those around them, often wearing 'studded' armour and an ornate metal helm. Unlike other 'knights' the Fiid do not often fight as cavalry.
If possible, Fiid fight shoulder to shoulder, in a disciplined shield wall. The opposing two walls push at each other until one breaks, then the routed Fiid are cut down by their pursuers. Most Fiid soldiers fight as infantry, using a metal-rimmed shield and a spear or axe. Swords are used by the wealthy and their vassals, more so than in other regions. Iron mines and smiths are abundant in Fiid. A few use longbows to support the shield wall, and recently some Fiid have adopted the use of cavalry. Horses do not prosper in the dry and scorching conditions of Fiid, but with care are used as scout forces and to run down fleeing foes.
Little metal armour is worn by Fiid, despite the abundance of iron. Often only a metal helm is worn. The heat prohibits full armour, those wearing it would be cooked. Quilted fabric is worn instead, with the extremely wealthy utilising silk (more and more soldiers are utilising silk due to the conquest of Lerr). In colder climes, where overheating is not an issue, small metal plates are riveted between layers of quilted cloth armour. The projecting rivets give rise to a persistent myth: Fiid do not 'stud' their armour. To do so would serve no purpose, aside from perhaps decoration.
On sea, Fiid fight much the same as on land. Naval battles are fought mostly through boarding action. Rabhid ships have a shallow draft, so can easily manoeuvre in shallow and coastal waters.I'm also on the Bay12 Games forums under the same username.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
I'm sorry the delay was so long for new regions profiles. I have been very busy recently, so there wasn't time before finish of round.
Spoiler: Map
Spoiler: Region 10
Rivo Alto
Land of the Endless Forest Rivers
Spoiler: Terrain
Forests, forests, and sandy beaches.
The coasts start the Misty Sea, so it is difficult to travel the dangerous ways to the south. The safest route is through the Straits of Dolphins; connecting to Gullinbustri to the East and to the Strait of Lutris to the south.
Raging jellyfish and raging seagulls are a danger, and it is said that ghosts and skeletons of lost travelers can be found in the forests. Therefore, one should bring a local guide, and the local navigators are quite famous.
Spoiler: PeopleThese people of twilight have some contact with the Nanda, and so although they are descendants of the people of twilight who traveled from the east, their culture has adapted many customs of Nanda. For example, their clothing style.
Since the contact with Luska, many of them have adopted into the clans, especially Otter, Weasel, and Wolf.
Popular Rumors:
It is said there are fairy children who live in the forests to the north, however it is unknown if it is lumberjack stories, or true.
It is said there are ghosts and walking skeletons of people who became lost in the forests. However, locals agree probably they are not people of twilight. Therefore, it is a scary mystery.
Spoiler: ResourcesResources: [Good] <Wood> The giant and endless bounty of strong trees is the best material for boat construction and all sorts of wood craftsmanship and construction. The skill and ability to transport by waterway efficiently makes the export the most popular in-demand resource.
Requires: <Silk> This wonderful material is the popular choice for clothing, to replicate the fashion sensibility of Nand influence. However, it must be imported.
Spoiler: ReligionThe people of Rivo Alto follow the faith of the Pale Lady. However, several other deities are also revered. For example, Rui, the goddess of the Forest, and Lucia, the Goddess of Water, are also revered.
The worship of the Pale Lady in the west points to the heritage that the the people of twilight originally came from the East across the ocean. However, the Pale Lady is also revered for Commerce, Drink (especially Wine), Twilight, Horizons, and Secrets.
Spoiler: Region 12
Gullinbursti
Land of the Golden Boars
Spoiler: TerrainTwo islands that resemble dancing boars, the name of this region refers to the light reflected off of the northern sea and the illumination of the limestone cliffs to the north. The southern island is called Gullinbursti. The northern island is called Erymanthos. The terrain is many hills and valleys with dangerous mountains hosting goblin and orc tribes. Gullinbursti has a large forest famous for it's wild boars. Erymanthos has a volcano, however it has never been recalled the eruption.
It is recommended tourist do not travel to volcano, however. It is said something probably sleeps in the volcano, however no one will report the appearance. Therefore there are many rumors about the volcano, to be called "Bad Neighbor."
Spoiler: PeopleThe people of Gullinbursti are ethnically identical to the people of twilight in Luska to the south. They maintain a similar heritage, to have traveled from the far east long ago.
The dangerous local monsters, the goblins and orcs, have made the people of Gullinbursti tough and strong survival experts. Because the patterns of weaving symbols and the heritage in clothing and tapestry is so similar, it is thought that during the migration, these people of twilight chose to settle in Gullinbursti while the rest of the people of twilight continued further south to safer regions.
Universally, the people of Gullinbursti are tattooed with symbols to mark [Boar] clan or [Eagle] clan.
However, because of the recent renewal of relations with Luska, many other clan peoples have come to live here, too.
Because of the problem of goblins and the powerful orcs, most young people are used to fighting or train in militia. Therefore, they are very proud of their clan tattoos, and it is unusual for them to wear headbands unless to prepare for battle.
About the clans:
Boar: Raising pigs or to fight goblins and orcs, the boar clan are enduring and usually short tempered. It is said that their agriculture skills are very strong and passionate argument with Seagull clan members is common.
Eagle: To live in protected area called [aerie], they are famous for scouting and fighting techniques with the sword. They are proud and noble spirited warrior-types. However, if it is a joke of straight-laced and buffoon pair, such a straight-laced type is probably an Eagle clan person.
Spoiler: Resources
Resources: <Swine> - Wild boar and domesticated pig are very common. Especially the use of such a domesticated pig is popular for food and leather for armor, clothing and many things. Wild boar are protected and considered sacred, however.
Requires: <Fruits> - although animals can thrive, there isn't a lot of arable land for growing fruits or vegetables.
Spoiler: ReligionThe people of Gullinbursti follow the faith of the Pale Lady.
It's sudden to change, but is there an event planned for this round?
Recently I was wondering if players would enjoy to roleplay together, therefore if it is desired, I will try my best to create enjoyable atmosphere for players in event at international trade city of Luska. However, if already there was a plan for host event, please continue freely!
If no one has such a plan, I will try to post update tomorrow with information about event. Of course all players are welcome to participate!
Such a preview name is Goblin Gondola Gambit.
About technology: I am sorry, I cannot find my notes about the GM of technology. I remember responsibility is not for QuintonBeck, however it cannot be found the responsible person.Last edited by Kasanip; 2015-11-16 at 05:30 AM.

Re: EMPIRE2!-CWBG-II-Cultural-Identity-Crisis
Region P6 is done, pending approval.
Náströnd (P6)
Population: 513,000
Spoiler: Terrain
Spoiler: Relevant Picture
Náströnd is a cold and bitter land like its neighbor Nifhel, long stretches of snow blanketing the country side in all directions, with winds whipping at such speeds as to render all travel during the night near-impossible. Winter places its icy grip on these lands for a majority of the year, with a short period of spring time where the shrubs, lichens, and sparse dwarf-tree bloom for the incoming migrating herd of caribou. Tall mountains dot the landscape, thrusting up towards the sky like somber giants of snow, brooding over their barren and frost-bitten kingdom. Caverns spread throughout these mountains and the earth underground, a vast subterranean network of natural and unnatural tunnels, and serve as shelters for the indigenous people when the winds become too intense for their mountain sheltered villages.
In a macabre example of man imitating nature (Or vice versa), skeletons and frozen cadavers of large and strange creatures dot the land, bone hills and flesh plains. Many rudimentary tribes live inside of these cairn shelters, with the most famous of them being a deep gorge perpetually enshrouded in a mist. Within this gorge is a river of ice and the bones of a horrendous and terrible monster. These are all rumors however, as no man has lived to enter the gorge and left with their lives intact. This gorge is referred to as "The Mist World" and it is the spot where most well known custom amongst the Náströndian's takes place. Any marriage or formal agreement that happens on the edge of "The Mist World" is considered to be especially sacred and protected by the spirit of the caribou and all the northern lights in the sky.
Spoiler: PeopleThe people of Náströnd are a strong and churlish lot, simple in their beliefs and practices, and prone to an overabundance of facial and body hair. The average Náströndian is a human ranging between 5'8" to 6'1", with a strong predilection towards brown and ginger hair. Crude and rustic, they have yet to master the art of permanent settlements in their hostile and unforgiving homeland, and so they have been forced to act as a nomadic and disparate people. Many tribes do not even speak the same language, with a few key customs and annual events linking them together despite their differences. Cannibalism, murder, and adultery are a common act in Náströnd, and what might have been a few desperate acts of survival in the past has bloomed rampantly into a full blown culture of betrayal and survival. Hunters at heart, the Náströndian's equip themselves with a variety of stone and bone weapons, drape themselves in the furs of the Caribou they migrate around, and often times decorate their domiciles with skulls, both caribou and human.
Most tribes are lead by a chieftain, the strongest able bodied warrior amongst the survivors who knows how to lead them safely through the frozen wasteland. This title is not hereditary, instead it's passed on to whomever can kill the Chieftain and eat him.
Spoiler: ResourcesNáströnd has a migrating population of Caribou (Minor) that travel into the snowy region from the south when mosquitoes bite them and drive them off northward. There they eat and roam until the winds grow too intense and they travel back south, by which point the mosquitoes have died from winter. Their antlers are frequently used as decorative pieces or as weapons in their own right.
Due to their savage nature and lack of any real tools to use, the Náströndian's have a need for metal to forge tools and weapons with.
Spoiler: ReligionThe people of Náströnd have no real formal religion barring their general worship of caribou and whatever shamanistic rituals one tribe invents. Most of their religious practices are bloody spectacles however, with many of the shamans wearing caribou skulls or human skin during their drug induced rhapsodies. They find many admirable traits that they share with the caribou such as hardiness, perseverance, and strength and these aspects are all incorporated in the rituals and stories they tell. Strangely enough they also consider the stars and the lights in the sky to be celestial beings in their worship, and many a tribe has a patron star that they look towards for guidance (Both spiritually and literally in the case of getting lost during a snow storm.“I’m a Terrorist not an idiot.” - Me
