Fallout 1: Global Thermonuclear War
Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything: from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage.
In the year 2077, after millennia of armed conflict, the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation.
But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history. For man had succeeded in destroying the world - but war, war never changes.
In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters, known as vaults. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them - all except those in Vault 53. For on that fateful day, when fire rained from the sky, the giant steel door of Vault 53 slid closed. It is here you expected to spend the rest of your life, locked away from the horror the world had become.
Welcome to Fallout 1: Global Thermonuclear War! Bonus points to whomever gets that reference.
The Rules:
Each day phase will last 48 hours. Players will post their lynch targets by marking the name red. If multiple votes are recorded by the same person, the earliest legal vote will be counted. Failure to vote in two consecutive day cycles will result in being auto-lynched.
If there is a tie, one of the lynch victims will be killed randomly and the other(s) will be voided for the following night cycle.
Once you have died, please feel free to post a death/farewell into the game. Please refrain from further comments until the game has concluded. We have a Seer, not a Medium.
Each night phase will last 48 hours, or to the time that all night actions have been received. Night actions will be resolved in the following hierarchy: Void, Bane, Kill, Scry.
Town wins if they have killed all of the wolves.
Wolves win when their number is equal to the number of remaining town, or if such a situation is unavoidable.
When the fool scries the Seer, they will get a result of Seer.
When the fool and seer scry the Alpha, they will get a result of Alpha.
This will be my first narrated WW game, so please feel free to comment during the recruitment phase if anything looks skewed. If anything is changed, an announcement will be made prior to the game's start. Roles may or may not be used to maintain balance. This includes secret roles or win-cons.
Spoiler: TownVault Dweller, Chosen One, Lone Wanderer, Sole Survivor (Masons): The masons start the game knowing each other and have a collective night bane. This bane starts at 100% and will decrease as masons are killed. Using the bane on the same person for consecutive nights is allowed, but doing so will permanently decrease its effectiveness.
Pip-Boy Technician (Seer): Spending many of your waking hours developing VATS and keeping the Pip-Boys running is a labor of love. What Vault 53 doesn't know, is that each Pip-Boy comes with a special kind of tracking software. While Vault-Tec originally intended this for the Overseer's use, the Pip-Boy Technician kept this to themselves. Each night, they can review the details of one person's actions and see who they really are.
Generalized Occupational Aptitude Test/G.O.A.T. Administrator (Fool): It's hard to tell when people give you truthful answers or when they try to game the system and get the job they actually want. By reviewing the completed tests at night, the G.O.A.T. Administrator can try to figure something out about that person, but who knows how accurate it really is?
Maintenance Worker (Voider): Everything seems to break down! From the moment you wake up to the moment you pass out, it seems like there's always something to fix. The one thing you can't stand is all these people tromping around at night interrupting your one peaceful time. Each night, you can make sure one person does not interrupt your sleep by locking their room and preventing them from performing any night actions.
Residents (Town): Your average person, locked in the vault and trying to survive.
Spoiler: WolvesThe Overseer (Devil): As the leader of the vault, The Overseer can tap into the various cameras and audio tracking equipment installed by Vault-Tec. Each night, they can focus on one person to find out their role.
Security Chief (Beast): The Overseer's second in command. They lead the security officers within the vault for "everyone's protection". While this mostly means the officers get the best of the supplies and can bully people around, they are fiercely loyal to their chief. Should the Security Chief be lynched, the officers will retaliate and randomly kill one of the people who voted for them.
Vault-Tec Operative (Alpha): Unaware to anyone else in the vault, Vault-Tec has sent one of their own into Vault 53 to study the experiment. While most of the machinery has been specifically designed to fail at certain intervals, a little touch here and there is sometimes required. If scried, they will produce a result of "Resident". If scried by the Seer and Fool in the same night, their true role will be shown. If the Vault-Tec Operative is targeted by the wolves for a night kill, they will instead be revealed to them and join their ranks as a Security Officer, losing their Alpha status.
Security Officers (Wolves): The vault flunkies. Whether your loyalty to the Chief is bought, blackmailed or genuine is anyone's guess. You're loyal to them and the Overseer, and that's all they care about. The wolves have a collective night kill that will be performed by one of their number at random.

Re: Fallout 1: Global Thermonuclear War
Question:
Does the alpha's "resident" scry result override the randomness inherent in the fool's scry?
What I am asking is if the fool will always read the alpha as "resident" if they scry on their own?

Re: Fallout 1: Global Thermonuclear War
The fool will always have a random result, even when scrying the Alpha. There will only be two exceptions:
When the fool scries the Seer, they will get a result of Seer.
When the fool and seer scry the Alpha, they will get a result of Alpha.
I'll update the OP accordingly, thanks for the question!

Re: Fallout 1: Global Thermonuclear War
Spoiler: We set our stage...
No one knew who launched the first nuke, only that each country's response was to launch their own. The warning sirens gave you barely 10 minutes warning before the mushroom clouds appeared in the distance. Even so far away, the ground trembled beneath your feet, threatening to send you to your knees. The shock of the blast sent a wave of debris at you before the grinding gears of the platform began to lower you within its depths far underground. First there was only darkness and the frantic, heaving sobs of those around you. As the elevator continued its decent, a dull glow was visible through the imperfections in the circular floor. That glow gradually brightened into the telling glare of artificial lights as the elevator groaned to a halt. Armed men and woman stood around, guarding the massive entrance to your very own Vault, and the promise of a better future than what humanity chose for itself. Each person was given a matching Vault Uniform, and forced to change before entering the vault. While it was painful to give up one of the last shreds of your former life, it was comforting to see others in the same uniform. You were all part of something larger than yourselves.
Several Weeks Pass
The initial fear and panic from the nuclear detonations has worn off and an uneasy routine has been accepted. The armed security officers enforce a specific kind of justice, usually their own, but they are careful not to step too far out of their place for fear of arousing the Chief or even Overseer's anger. Each morning, a boring and predictable speech comes over the Vault's intercom preaching working together and supporting your Overseer's wisdom at rebuilding society as you know it. Grumbling has started amongst the more headstrong of the residents, those that have easily forgotten the terror you have all left behind. Most residents are content to keep their heads down and let someone else do the thinking for them. While the living conditions aren't ideal, it beats whatever the remaining souls above ground have endured.
Eventually... inevitably... that delicate arrangement had to find its end one way or another. The security officers were growing more and more bold; to the point of throwing people in the "Box", which was little more than a small 3 foot cube locker barred from the outside. Neither the Overseer nor the Security Chief seemed to care about the increasing violence and abuse suffered by the residents. Voices grew louder, fists clenched tighter and divisions grew. One man, tired of bending his head to the treatment, stood his ground. No one could remember what set off the argument, or whose fault it was. Blood flowed freely that day, drawing a painful line between the Overseer's regime and the residents just trying to pick up the pieces of their life.
"You can't keep treating us like this! We're all the same people we were before, can't you see that?" The man tried to plead his case, the case for all of those in the Vault.
"I know what I see, and it better get to apologizing quick. Unless you'd like to renew your accommodations in the Box?" Derisive laughter followed this very real threat.
"You can throw me wherever you like! It doesn't change the fact that we deserve better than how you treat us. You can bully us all day and night, but it just covers up your fear." The man's gaze set and seemed to bore into the Security Officer, who shrank back slightly as more residents stood up around the man in a show of solidarity.
"Back you lot! Don't make me call the Overseer!" The guard's weapon came up, its barrel making a hastily aimed thrust at the man to push him back.
A sharp *crack* deafened those gathered and a blinding flash stole both their wits and their sight. When the room stopped spinning, two things were painfully apparent: that the guard had beat a swift retreat down the opposite tunnel, and the man who had stood up to him lay curled up, the ground rapidly reddening beneath him. Howls of outrage sounded through the Vault as several people took up the chase after the guard while others tended to the fallen man. Attempts were made, but nothing could be done to save his life.
flat_footed has been killed. He was the Sole Survivor.
Calls ringing through the chambers for savage justice were met with only silence. Room by room, the residents searched for the offending officer and no sign of them could be found. The following morning, a discovery was made once the Overseer's office had been broken into. Several piles of uniforms and badges were present, as well as the surplus uniform storage had been left open. It seemed that the Overseer and Security forces, fearing mob justice against themselves, had decided to abandon the trappings of their respective stations, trusting the uniform to protect their true identity. With this revelation, uneasy glances were passed from resident to resident, trying to remember who was as they appeared and who was hiding a sinister truth. The vault residents found themselves allied against a common enemy, but that enemy now looked exactly like one of them.
Begin Day 1
A crackling voice comes on over the intercom, different than you've heard before.
Good Morning and thanks for listening to VMN!
Brought to you by "Ten things you won't BELIEVE Radiation does for your body!"
.... Remain calm. Enjoy your stay in vault 53.
