    Well, as long as that soul is intact, Durkon has a fighting chance. I just can't wait to see Durkula's scheme of revenge blow up in his face.

    Well, you raised an interesting question in my mind, at least. I got to wondering whether Bards, Rangers, and Paladins could take Metamagic feats, including Improved Spell Capacity, which is Epic.

    It seems like they can. At least, there isn't explicit language forbidding it.

    So a Paladin could theoretically take five Improved Spell Capacity feats, and gain a high enough level to achieve 24 cross-class skill ranks in Spellcraft in addition to their 24 class skill ranks in Knowledge: Religion.

    Yep. If you're on the mobile site, going to any showsinglepost page leads you to a page with nothing but a nice white color. The entirety of the page's code is:

    <html>
    <head>
    <style type="text/css">
    :root #header + #content > #left > #rlblock_left
    { display: none !important; }
    </style>

    It's a URL shortener, I wouldn't click on that without checking it first!

    I added a + at the end of the bit.ly link. It's a link to a Youtube video of a song about never giving you up, never gonna let you down...

    In case anyone was wondering, this works on mobile. It shows the entire thread and snaps to a particular post, instead of trying to display an isolated post. I think that's what Peelee was thinking.

    What he said seems reasonable to me. Durkon is dead--the thing walking around, that looks like him and sounds like him, is a corpse. Why would the brain of said corpse be working any better than the lungs, which we know from strip #982 aren't functioning?

    You know, if Durkon is planning a trap, it could backfire...

    Say for example Durkon knows the Banquet hall was since converted to a barracks. But Durkon's been gone for many years now. It could have been converted into storage space, which would be even more advantageous for some stealth refreshing.

    Durkon wouldn't want to lead the vampires to a barracks. Durkon knows that nobody currently in that town can roll the dice with vampires and survive. I think he's giving Durkula what he wants - a secluded space - to buy time for the Order to arrive without further loss of life.

    Even that could backfire. Like I said, Durkon doesn't know what's happened to that space since he was away. So even intending to help could hurt.

    EDIT: And given that the reason they want a safe space is to replenish their spells, getting into a battle now is about the only time the city has a chance of overcoming the invaders.

    I'm only speculating that what might happen next strip would be something that not even Durkon expected.

    The vampires need to replenish their spells to fight the Order, not to protect themselves from mundane civvies and soldiers. With just grappling and fangs, they killed a cleric of Thor who was at least level 5. That cleric was quite likely one of the most powerful people in town. The Giant talked about this a lot back in the day, but the level of force that high-level characters and monsters (and characters who are monsters) bring to bear is utterly insurmountable to the average person.

    Being interrupted would make their defeat by the Order more likely, sure, but it would come at the cost of a huge portion of the town's populace.

    Still, I get your point that Durkon's memories are not fully reliable as sources of information and/or deception, dated as they are by about 20 years.

    As far as I am aware, we do not know if it is before or after dusk. They may have already refreshed spells. All we know time-wise is that the OotS should arrive before midnight - which might be a few hours down the line. Did I miss some clue?
