Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
I THINK you had to refrigerate the pastry for 1/2-1 hour, and yeah, I think once the custard was cooked and the whole thing baked it had to be refrigerated again for another 1-2 hours before being grilled. It still took a good 2 or more hours than it should have...

...Pudding? Man, you Yanks must have some seriously messed-up desserts...
I think I may have posted that recipe before. If not, remind me in a week, and I'll send it to you (or better yet, start a (stickyable?) recipe thread. SISQUI!).The Iron Avatarist Hall of Fame!

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
But... pudding is a squidgy cakey thing. Brulee and custards are... custards...
'course, it doesn't help that it seems that most of the time when US of Americans talk about "pudding", they're apparently talking about Yogo-style flavoured yoghurt things.
edit: also, it's nearly midnight, and I'm sweating.
edit: On puddings (this was the most straight-forward):
Like custards, thick, creamy mixtures of milk, sugar, and flavorings. Custards are thickened with eggs, puddings with cornstarch or flour.

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Lying on my left side like a Roman at a banquet, o play me a song, I'm a banquet man, but with a tubular skirt such as was rarely in fashion for Romans male or female--a slow twitch of the fabric just above the knee, in a room where the door and windows are shut, not a breath of wind to stir the fabric--the printed polyester, supple as the skin atop a quiet stream and equally green, flickers in time with my pulse. Hypnotic. Who expected delicacy from a $7 clearance sale skirt?

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Same here.
What you silly Americans think of as pudding is, well, in that picture it's a chocolate mousse.
Pudding is a pudding.
And the sweet course after the main meal is called dessert. You'd find it easier to say dessert because whenever I think of Alarra as being the Pudding Goddess I think of cakes and puddings like that.
Not mousses and custards and the like.

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Is that what they think pudding is?
I've been wondering about that for so long.
Also, turns out my English teacher has been stealing ideas from us, is now threatening to go get some of my poems published under his name, and wrote the beginning of a short story, led us to believe it was an actual published piece, got us to guess what is going to happen, and then went out and wrote it in pieces, all the time getting us to write it without us knowing.
I now no longer trust him, and will thus not give him any more work to mark, and am going to attempt to requisition my work back.

Same here.
And plagiarism and theft of work is a criminal offence. If any of you have dated proof that it's all your work then I suggest you:
1) Go to the head of your college. All of you.
2) As a last resort go to the police. Or something. I'm certain that what he's doing is an offence; but where you go I don't know. When in doubt nip down to the Bobby Shop.

Hmmm.... I'd be careful about what you say on this subject. You can insult an American's flag, his parents, his job, his truck, his dog, and his clothes without incident, but WE WILL KILL OVER PUDDING. Just saying: tread lightly.

Sweet! Snow day! Anyone else get a massive amount of snow last night?
Now my day consists of Homework, reading Y The last Man, and Crysis... which isn't much of a change from a regular wednesday except it would have added Class into the mix.

Yes, I, too, have suffered under the burden of bread pudding that you HAVE to eat because you made her order it for you.
What's more, it was my birthday dinner. Come to think of it, the entire meal was pretty terrible. Man, if you waste your birthday dinner, that's like wasting a year of your life!Glorious Chaiman Kaga avatar by the impeccable Kalirush!
