Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Well, my university canceled classes... I didn't find out until I was already in my only class of the day. So, now I'm at my computer in my office on campus, hanging out here, rather than worrying about homework, classes, or labs...
All of this snow makes me almost wish I were still 8, so that I could enjoy the weather properly (sledding, snow fights, building snow sculptures, having days off of school, etc.)."Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy." --Siegbert Tarrasch

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
I don't doubt his fans will still defend him, but the results are in:
Heath Ledger was a pillhead. The official examination just released shows that he died from an awful cocktail of six, count 'em six prescription drugs, all in rather... immoderate quantities, shall we say.
In addition to the medications' being completely irrelevant to his health (well, not so irrelevant considering they killed him), it didn't appear to be suicide, so it's safe to assume that binges like this were standard practice, and this one simply went a bit too far.
So, I guess you can still call it a 'tragedy' if that's how you feel, but this is exactly how Anna Nicole Smith went, so if you didn't feel much sorrow for her, I wouldn't recommend weeping for Heath.Glorious Chaiman Kaga avatar by the impeccable Kalirush!

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
I don't know, I just checked a few news sites and they're all reporting that none of the drugs were taken in immoderate quantities. It's very easy to overdose on these kinds of drugs, some of them will react to each other in ways that he or his psychiatrists couldn't have forseen.
I think this is just a tragic mistake. And even if it was his fault in some way, which it wasn't, would it be any less sad that a talented young actor died in his prime?
(Also: Hm, my boyfriend takes Oxycotin and Xanax. Probably Valium, too, the quacks have got him on everything else under the sun. Is it weird that I'm kind of hoping he'll OD and die? Would solve a lot of problems for the both of us.)

Whoa, like I was on drugs! That's something I didn't know it could be done in FF.
@rubakhin: I'm not sure if your boyfriend should be taking all three of those medications at the same time. They could generate some nasty side effects. Synergy of medications can be quite a pain in the ass, and sedatives are no exception to the rule. If doctors think he should take them, cool, but those are not cookies to just gulp down.Adrie, half elven bard. Drawing by Vulion, avatar by CheesePirate. Colored version by Callos_DeTerran. Heath Ledger was much better then Anna Nicole. She had been pretty out of her mind for a while. Heath not so much.

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Hmmm, so I went to see if I could figure out what would differentiate a mousse from a pudding (my kind). Other than the fact that the mousse I usually eat is more of a whipped thing while pudding is more creamy I can't find anything. And apparently a mousse isn't necessarily whipped. Oh well.

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Whoo!
I have found out that I have an entire two day extension on my Medieaval History coursework.
They get from the 28/2 - 17/3. I get from 9/3 - 19/3. Stupid French exchange.
And on Friday I have to hand in a HOmeric-style epic poem imitating his stlye as much as possible while working names of chocolate bars and sweets into the text as carefully and punnily as possible.
Work done: 0 words.

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
So your head science person is subbing for chem. Ouch. Not a lot of leeway to take advantage of there. Hmm distractions your best bet. Ask her a random questions that have almost nothing to do with the present coursework, she hopefully spring off into a tangent that as she tries to impress/educate you about physics or something.... Maybe waste a lot of time doing that and forget to actually assign homework and the other stuff.

Jumping back a couple of pages...
We get to name our houses?!?! Sweet! Hmm..on the other hand, I'd better not tell Andre about this until it's a done deal, or who knows what we'll end up with...
As far as Zeb and Alarra's place...I think the names so far were good, but they seem to be mainly about the Troll aspect of the arrangement...Something that works for both is needed!

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Ooo, yes. It's a prestigious line of work with a long and glorious tradition. For you guys, I actually think the "Fairchilde Manor" thing works out. (I may have misperceived, but I always thought of your username as a kind of gladiatorial shortening of a fuller name. Much like "Sugar" Ray Leonard being known as Sugar Ray, you were "Emerald" Rose Fairchilde. My apologies if that's inaccurate.)
Indeed. That's one of the reasons we'd tentatively agreed on Gramma and Grampa's House. (Since, technically, if we were to ever get around to tying the knot, she'd be Gramma Alarra. )Want to meet some of the most awesome people on the internet? Come to the Baltimore/DC Area RenFest Meetup 2012!

Heh..that's sweet, but Andre Fairchilde is a character Andre made up ages ago, that he's played in multiple game systems...the name is not related. And mine is not actually Rose, though I had a great aunt named Rose. Easy to mistake though.
That's true...very true...so tell me. Are there plans of this sort then? Hmm?

OK.
I am officially insane; ill and awesome at the same time.
I'm listening to Dance Magic (my [insert deity/religion] David Bowie you're hot) on YouTube feeling not well and I have one of my bad coughing fits (I got a bad chest infection a good couple years ago and I know have a cough that's worse than a smoker' cough). It was in perfect time to the beat - for over a minute.
Just some randomness to spice up your life.
@Zeb & Alarra: Pudding Troll House. Or just a very new class for things.
Or I'm high on Benlyn (sp).

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Well of course it's not. But that doesn't mean that you couldn't have made up a character/username that was intended to tie in with his. Or that you couldn't alter your backstory to make it so. I mean, its not like it's a secret that you are, indeed, Mrs. Andre Fairchilde, right? (C'mon, I gave you plausibility. Work with me. )
There aren't, as yet. But it's certainly not out of the question. Of more immediate concern at this point is that she's still in grad school so this sort of discussion would need to wait until that pressure's off so as not to add any more needlessly. I promise, if that time ever comes, I'll post a thread about it and let everyone in on it.Want to meet some of the most awesome people on the internet? *nods*
Yeah, we waited until I finished grad school as well. It made things a good bit easier...sort of.
Yes, of course we've played characters that were married, though I can't remember if they ever had the same last name, and Andre Fairchilde (the character) has hit on more than a few of my characters...and no it's no secret that we are married.

Re: Haruki's Historically Hilarious Honey-covered Random Banter #94
Oh, so being a pathetic wretch when you know millions of people look up to you is A-OK as long as you don't do it in the streets and frighten the horses. Duly noted.
Er.... Yes, yes it is far less tragic since he died getting stoned rather than as a freak occurrence.
Is it really so unbelievable that a wealthy young actor died of a drug addiction? If this was the fifties, maybe I could understand the shock, but really, hasn't Hollywood been our finest, most efficient working model of how to screw up your life with drugs and die young for more than four decades now?
There are only two reasons people stand up for this addict. The first is that he was a young, smarmy romantic actor rather than a bunt-out obvious lowlife. If he had been unattractive, past his prime, or not so well-liked by audiences, no one would even bat an eye when they heard he OD'ed and would probably forget about him by the time the weather came on.
The second is that he was on pills rather than something explicitly illicit. No matter how many different pills you take or in what quantity, there's always a good contingency of people who will believe that all of his numerous medications were completely necessary and that their beloved star or starlet would never consider using drugs recreationally; after all, taking four times the recommended dosage for each of the half-dozen prescriptions was obviously just some kind of mistake, right? Anyone could do it!
Why, just the other day I meant to take a couple of Advil for a headache and I accidentally downed the whole bottle and half a box of Coricidin! Whoops! Eh... Not so much. It's criminally easy for the wealthy and famous to get a doctor to prescribe absolutely anything they want for them, Hippocratic Oath be damned. They do this exactly because people will attempt to justify this use. It's legally airtight and, regardless of how much circumstantial evidence it provides, you'll never prove anything to someone who doesn't want to believe it. It's an obvious loophole but it works, sadly.
Sometimes I wish actors and musicians could be more uniformly shameless in addition to being morally bankrupt. At least when they die driving drunk or spew their guts out after pounding too much sweet Georgia Brown, we'd have it all in black and white. Not that it'd make any difference even in that case: if Cobain taught us anything, it's that a true fan will love you no matter what a worthless dirtbag you turn out to be when they put you in the ground.Last edited by Arameus; 2008-02-06 at 08:32 PM.

Smack that baby make him free!
I love David Bowie so much. He's one of the few people, I think, who got better looking as he got older.
Anyway, Bowie's a great example of someone who got really, really, really heavy into drugs and got out. I don't know, but it would have been a shame for him to die before he started doing some of his really cool stuff (like Magic Dance!). But I also find it really hard to feel sorry for folks who have the whole world in their pocket and screw it up with drugs and such.

Yes. I haven't bought grapes in I don't know how long because they've always been crap. Well, that and I never go to the store, but when I get there, every month or so, the grapes are crap. Although I have a bowl at the moment. *goes to get grapes* mmmmm.....
