Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
I know! It's even better for me as the librarian from my secondary school (that's high school) owns one - third of the bookshop and I was one of her favourite students when I was at school.
I can order anyting I want from there. Anything. And I don't have to pay the £1 extra charge if it comes from overseas when everyone else does.
Like your shop they order anything and everything as long as you know where to find it. They'll even buy brand new off Amazon because as a small business they get a discount.
Oh, and this shop gives you a free book (worth up to £18) for every £100 you spend in the shop. And as you have handwritten 'loyalty cards' you can get the £100 built up as slowly as you want.
I love that shop to pieces.
And yes, I have spent four hours in there reading. And as it's very small (there's barely enough room for one person to walk down the aisles) it's got the Olde Booke Shoppe feel about it and is insanely popular as it will order anything whatsoever.

I wish we had bookstores like that around here. Best we've got is the usually major chain stores: waldenbooks/borders & barnes & noble. Granted, there are a couple small chains, but even then...

I have one of the best bookshops in the world less than two miles from where I sit.
I feel so proud of that.
@Kneen: the parrot has a peacock feather hat. A parrot with peacock feathers. That's like wearing your cousins' arm or something. Despicable parrot. Nice scarf though.

When I was a teenager, I worked at a Sonic DriveIn with a Drag Queen. Really nice guy. Very funny. Even my insecure-teenage boy self got along great with him.

BAH!
also PAH! muttermuttermuttermutter...
Stupid people breaking into my house! Made us all drive 300 miles back from the north places at 6 in the morning because of a break-in. And it means that because of the carefully planned itinerary's complexities it means more days away from home in wonderful motorway B&Bs and an extra 5 or so hours in the car. And nothing was taken anyway! It was probably a goose or something. Or maybe someone casing out our house for the future.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
I AM HAPPY!
My sister just got back from volunteering at the Fish Festival and she bought possibly the best pair of earrings she has ever bought. For me.
I swear, a taste in earrings must be genetic as she bought a bloody brilliant pair for me (am wearing them now) and a slightly less bloody brilliant pair for herself.
How much for my earrings?
50p.
They're silver, and dangly, and very 70s.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Ach, bath, that sounds pretty terrible! My most sincere apologies. Driving long-sistance sucks. I spent like, 18 hour in a car driving to italy.
We've never been burgaled, but tbh i think any burglar would be a bit confused. Or surprised. Or possibly dead. I'm pretty sure my father keeps a pistol in his room, and i sleep with a bayonet. and we've got two scimitars for hanging on the wall, too...Everything I say is 100% TRUTH*

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
FOR THE LAST TIME: I. HAVE. NO. CAMERA!
NEW REVERSED DECREE!
...write my personal statement for me?
Jibbers:
I have decided to apply to study [subject] because I have always been interested by the subject/believe it will be useful to me in the future/think that the degree course is one which will allow me to have a lot of flexibilty and get the best out of my chosen degree.
[explain why your chosen A Levels mean you deserve your place here] Make sure to mention your interests outside of school which compliment the work you've done in school.
[explain why you chose this degree in particular at which uni] But make fairly vague as you''ve got five unis to appeal to.
If applying for a mix of degrees then make sure to pick out the indivdual qualities for each degree. ie Creativity and flexibilty for X or how Philosophy has allowed you to have a better scope for interpreting the way the world is seen and how it also lends itself to making a person more able to think and expand upon a ertain point. For the latter make sure to point out your A (was it?) in Philosphy and how proud you are of that fact.
If there's a piece of work you feel is ab fab then by all means make a point of mentioning it AS LONG AS it's relevant to your persuasion.
Also: lying is wrong. But stretch the truth as far as it'll go then a bit further.
After all, this is your life you're persuading for.

LOUD NOISES!
Beh. It's just annoying really. Having seen my house I somewhat doubt that anyone would come back. Spears, books on the first unified currencies of China, art nouveau medals and weird sculpture do not sell themselves well for...well, selling once stolen.
I have a bayonet too, it's a bit rusty though. Give's 'em a bit of tetanus for the road. They don't like it up 'em.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
We can reverse decrees now?
This flips the entire monarchical process on it's head.
It was also a B. And I'm not doing a degree in it. I was just happy to have passed since it's one of my favourite subjects and after becoming bottom of the class in January I felt like I'd let down my teacher.
Heh. That's the only time I've ever gone to a teacher for help. I think she must have realised considering how much time she then devoted to me.
Anyway, thanks.
Applying for the top creative writing place in the country... that just so happens to be a bus ride away from me. Gonna go well.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Only I can reverse monarchial decrees as I am actually a descendant from royalty. Comes with the blood don'tcherknow?
And I was close.
And in that case:
I believe that my studying of Philosphy would lend me an advantage in creative writing as it allows me to understand human perceptions and would allow me to be better able to write themes into my work. This is conjunction with my hobby of writing an alternative history of the world has, in my opinion, provided me with a good base to participate fully in the various [insert things you're interested in here].
A statement is creative writing based on facts. Lie as much as you can.
EDIT:
@'zira: I'm not that good. It's just lying and being sneaky. But tips can be provided I guess.Last edited by CurlyKitGirl; 2008-08-25 at 03:27 PM.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Turns out I can borrow a laptop from the college. I thought to myself, "Awesome! Rather than use a computer in the Student Center or my sucky PSP at the dorm, I can borrow a laptop, take it to the dorm, and use it there!"
Sadly, it turns out, I can't leave the building with it. If I had known that, I would've just kept using the computers at the Student Center...It is inevitable, of course, that persons of epicurean refinement will in the course of eternity engage in dealings with those of... unsavory character. Record well any transactions made, and repay all favors promptly.. (Thanks to Gnomish Wanderer for the Toreador avatar! )

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
I think I'll shell out on a minilaptop for working on for 6th form, tbh. My current one is just...ubermassive and clunky. I just need a cheap, wee small thing capable of running Word, nothing else. Any reccmomendations?

Has anyone ever sat at work, bored, and just wished that a group of ninjas or pirates would just bust through the windows and assault the place?
I mean, hopefully I wouldn't get stabinated, but still, I'm bored.

@Aziraphale: Get an Asus eeeeeeeeeeee. (maybe less Es. Three maybe. *shrug*) They are super teeny! Also: really cheap, like £100 ish. They're fairly snazzy, but not very powerful, and you'll need another computer at home to store all the stuff on.
