Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
The nostalgia corner
It was 1994 (SEVENTEEN years ago, geological ere ago, musically speaking) when this single came out.
It still sounds amazing today, and we can now understand how deeply such groups have influenced everything that came after.
This song still has an impressive intensity and destructive power. The riff that starts at 0:50 strikes at the heart.
Enjoy!Do I contradict myself?

Together with At The Gates the founders of MeloDeath.
Truly, no greater minds have walked the earth.
I found their earlier Grind/Death stuff to be less good, but Heartwork is to this day one of my all-time favourites.
And even though I really like Arch Enemy, I rue the day when Michael Amott left Carcass.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
So, anyone have any opinions on Dark Angel? I just listened to Darkness Descends, and it was unbelievable. For an album from 1986, it was incredibly heavy, and it might be one of my favorite thrash albums. Only because of Rust in Peace and Agent Orange is it not number one, although that might just be the after effect of having just listened to it. Anyway, I still think it's the best thrash album from '86 (and considering Reign in Blood and Pleasure to Kill came out that year, that's saying a lot).
So, I'm assuming most of you will have heard some Dark Angel, so what do you think about it? And, if you haven't, then do it now, it is very good.

I used to be a HUUUUUUUUUUGE Dream Theater fan. Honestly, I find a lot of their music hopelessly narmy, now. A Change of Seasons is one of the few exceptions, though.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I don't listen to Dream Theater as much as I used to, but I still love them.
And their cover of Master of Puppets (the album, not just the song) is phenomenal.
What I HAVE been listening to lately is Woods of Ypres. I know some people here don't like their new stuff, but I've fallen in love with it, and their new song You Were The Light is pretty awesome.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I considered first writing a huge rant, but then I realised that most of the problems I complained about were present in the early albums as well and I'm just a grumpy old fellow (despite my age ). Still, so long as someone's enjoying things this needn't be a total loss
I do enjoy some of the new material, but pretty much any kudos was outweighed by what I viewed as horrendous lyrics on the Green Album (why was Wet Leather even allowed to sit there?).*Splendid Goatatar by that cool kid Serpentine

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I'm sorry, my copy of the Green Album only has 15 songs on it, and I don't think that's one of them.
I'll have to disagree with you there. The first four songs, while not possessing spectacular lyrics, are still pretty good, and I'd say the lyrical simplicity of Halves & Quarters, Sequence of Dreams, and Retrosleep work in their favor. And Into Exile is also good.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Well then consider it a lucky escape. That song is the lyrical equivalent of a twelve year old girl posting to her livejournal that she's the most misery-ridden angst flower ever to bloom.
Into Exile is the only song that's still on my mp3 player from that album
And as I mentioned, most of the problems I observe in the new material I can find in the new material if I want to. The only time I've read closely over WoY lyrics and enjoyed it was with The Shams of Optimism, right at the start.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
So judging from the new single from poisonblack, the new album is going to sound way more Sentencedy, only with that more hard rock vibe that poisonblack have been going for recently. Verry good news in my opinion seeing as their recent fair had derailed a little especially in terms of the vocals.
Also the video for it has anwsered an immortal question, that one being ? What is more awesome than two girls wrestling in mud? Two girls wrestling in mud surrounded by fire.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I also just found out about Roy leaving Kamelot. What on Earth is going on? This past year has been dreadful for Metal. Khan is one of my favourite vocalists of all time and Kamelot one of my favourite Metal bands. This is horrible.
