Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
Ponyard has a plan.
SpoilerDeep in the belly of The Sting, Skyrocket stands on her hind legs, special made supports allowing her to maintain balence and remain comfortable. She is standing over a table completely covered bits and pieces of machinery, in the center of the table something that looked like a disembodied unicorn horn that gently pulsed with a pale green light.
Sky? What is that?
I'm not totally sure, but its practically pulsing with power. I'm trying to reverse engineer an input for it, it strongly resembles some type of key.
Key to what?
I don't know. so im going to try to build a lock for it.
Build a lock for the key? Where did you even find that?
Long time ago, it only recently started glowing like this.
Alright, let me know if you figure something out.
Ponyard trots off, back towards the bridge. Skyrocket tinkers with something on the table. When he is out of earshot, Skyrocket grins and uncovered what looks like large circular lock, she slid the mechanism into her launcher and turner the key.
Even from the bridge Ponyard and Nightscream could hear her laughter.
I think this is a good place to set things up.ADVENTURE!!!!!

Splifflicate: British slang, (colloquial) meaning to to beat up, utterly destroy, generally damage and render useless. (Frequently used in the Beano in any stroy involving Calamity James and any burly bully he accidently runs afoul of.)
Before you answer that, Hopereaver, I advise you to consider that I have a Snake Launcher and stack of SK-4s just itching to be used, and to point out that it is difficult to accept a reward if you are, in fact, very, very dead. And that regardless of what Lixie may do to me, I will certainly survive long enough to make sure that you, personally, will permenantly regret it.
... Point taken, sir.
Sorry your divineship. You're, er, on your own. Ma'am.
Good luck, though.

You, er, heard that last part didn't, you sir?

I'm not sure if I've made a point of mentioning this (aside from the fact the sea pony song still gives me mental twitches even after twenty years), but I remember the originals, so I find it kinda interesting to see the history now and again. My sister (who was four year younger than me) was quite into ponies, so she had the videos and the toys and even some audio tapes that I was quite happy to listen to when we went on holiday or something. Heck, I even went to see the movie at the cinema with my sister, so (I am nearly always up for watching cartoons, and 1980s Pony wasn't that bad).

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
*googles* Huh, I never noticed she had a different hairdo while wearing that before, actually. I guess you're right, it does make her look more feminine.
I don't think her being blue contributed to my confusion, though. The thought never crossed my mind, anyway. (Also, Applejack being orange and Rarity being white don't exactly strike me as "traditional 'girly' colors." )
Really? That strikes me as a strange mistake to make. I'm pretty sure Fluttershy had a line or two in that episode before the poison joke kicked in, and afterward, well, what did they think the "curse"/joke was with her if not her voice?

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
I'm just going by what I've heard; as I said before, I assumed that all six of the main cast were female from the start.
[Edit]
Scootaloo did confuse me at first. I still need to double-check myself to make sure the gender of my pronouns is correct when I refer to her.
And I liked the Cutie Mark Crusaders in Stare Master.Last edited by erikun; 2011-08-04 at 07:05 PM.

Eh, I don't focus on voice much, more on visual cues, and to me, it was always pretty obvious RD was a girl. Not at all girly, but girl. Though, yes, at times she seemed to adopt very male behavior.
Though, to me, her voice always seemed about as much "feminine" as AJ's did, which is understandable given the same actress.
And there is one token male already, isn't he?

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
Actually after looking at some of the plot summaries for some episodes and whatnot it sounds like the story for it was pretty good. That animation style just makes me cry though. No clue why, just not a very big fan of it.
Well Rarity's white can go either way, but being the big fashion lord she is it kinda negates any effect her colour would have. Not entirely sure where orange fits though... I think that tends to end up being neutral...

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
Huh, now that's strange. Applejack's voice definitely sounds female to me, and was one big reason I was never mistook her for a guy in spite of being the other tomboyish character of the group. For Rainbow though her voice strikes me as being about as masculine as a female voice can get, to the point where, as I said, it made me think she was male for a few episodes.
I don't follow.

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
I was told by a fellow graduating senior that Senator Ayote (There we go again, my location is showing) droned on for over an hour and a half. However, I'm narcoleptic. I remember a grand total of five minutes of her speech, and then the actually important parts of the ceremonies.
From what I heard from everyone else after the fact, I was literally the only person who enjoyed the ceremony for that simple fact.
Here's my traditional greeting!

I... think Con drain causes drowsiness. I mean it would make sense. Just make sure it's not permanent, then you'll end up with a permanent narcolepsy effect. And nopony wants that. (Seriously. I want my afternoons back. Somepony help, please. )

It's because internet was flooded with Fluttermale quote clips making it first contac/impression of FiM to many.
Yeah, gotta admit, those definitely look rather ugly to me.
Feminine?
I have to disagree here, the delivery (and especially lines) of the text tend to be even worse than RD's at times. And her visual cues that have nothing feminine in the don't help.

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
Aye, and good thing, too. This board has done a number on my psyche. I would care less that I broke the rules if we got in trouble for it after the fact, and care more that I let down the mods. Especially since two of them are our own!
Is... Is this that Stockholm I always hear about ?
Drat. I can't remember what you said worked pretty well for you.*
Nah, don't worry about it. I'm sure any computer I could have had would have suffered similarly. My computers tend to be rode hard and left broken.
Besides, I'm old enough to have just myself to blame. And I'd have a computer if I didn't do that six month stretch of LARPing. Making those weapons costs a bundle.
...Is it bad that after I read this I spent five minutes trying to figure out how to actually use this to your advantage in a real life zombie scenario? I may be approaching too much nerd here.
Where your priorities need to lie is in branching out your knowledge. Sure, a plague zombie comes along and you're ace, but what happens when a juju zombie comes along? Head shots don't work, and bites don't turn you. Are churches safe havens? Do you need to do some sort of movie plot thing to put the dead to rest?
I've found most nerds are dangerously underknowledgeable when it comesto supernatural zombies.
I will admit. This and your next response had me rolling.
MidnightMare Moon?
So yeah, hey. How much is actual creeped-outness, and how much is for the gag?
That is kinda how I see it going though, except I'm surprised at __________'s mental strength.
Well, hey. Turning you into a pony is hard. I could try and turn you into a griffon and see I'd that pony's you though.
Well, I mean, not now. You're already a pony.
Hm. I'm sorry, Commodore Bleakbane, but given the evidence...
I don't think you qualify as the most sane of us any more. I'm going to have to start the motion remove your Sanity of Ponythread status.
Turnabout's fair play!
Besides, I'm trying to find out why she's so... Randy. Oh hey, I found a door labeled CPU. If that means what I think it does... *opens door*
Spoiler
Wow. That was not at all what I expected. *closes door* moving on...
Hm. You know, that's a good point. The cold aura would be one thing, but the Con drain is a mixed blessing. For one, it's drain (I.e. Permanent) and for two, the Con is what let's you tolerate the heat! You drop it, and who knows whether the lichtech can cool you enough to make up for decreased tolerance.
We need... SCIENCE! Hey Scion, how ya feelin'?
Also, I am sure ponies, like most animals have the double helix DNA and there for can use spiral power. Of course in this case their DNA might be a double helix of twisted candy strings like so much candy canes, but still double helix none the less.
Yaaay! It's a Kyouhen!
How are ya mate?
No, the creepiest thing is inducing Stockholm syndrome by applying heated metal to your bone structure.
I wasn't sure at first, myself. The first episode really established her girliness. In fact, rainbow dash is the second girliest of the Mane Six, it's just over-shadowed by her athleticism!
Her voice really irritated me for a while though. She sounded like that kid from Time Police.
Ya know, blue being a boy color is recent. Pink used to be a boy color because it was a shade of red.
I find a better way to look at it is in hours. We did how many pages in those 14 hours?
Note that some people started the series with Bridle Gossip, and so first thought that Fluttershy was the token guy in the cast.
No wonder that poor earth pony is hitting the bourbon! Everypony keeps calling her Fluttershy. But she doesn't have wings!
... Have you been getting dressed for money? Scandalous!
You could make a killing at nursing homes.
... That was bad. I'm bad and I should feel bad.
Aww, anything we can do to help? nagging feeling that I'm responsible...

Re: My Little Pony XIX: I Emptied Your Thread
Myself, I listen to the voices to determine the gender of the characters. IIRC, when I first heard Dash's voice I had a split second of confusion before settling on female, but I really don't remember. If I was confused, it certainly didn't last long.
This technique does get rather bothersome sometimes when I'm watching something that used a woman for the voice of a young male with no discernible visual cues, though, since I hear the voice and assume that the character is a girl - Yuuno Scrya, I'm looking at you.The name is "tonberrian", even when it begins a sentence. It's magic, I ain't gotta 'splain why.
