Forget the compicated and not-so-complicated map tools. Just press F3, look at the X and Z coordinates (to the left on the screen) and walk toward the point where they both are 0. That should be within a few hundred metres from your original spawn point, and hopefully a place that you recognise (otherwise, just walk in increasingly wide circles until you find it).

Unless your hard drive burned in the process, the saves should still be possible to dig out from somewhere (although there's a small chance that the crash has corrupted them). That said, I haven't actually explored the Spore folders myself, so I don't know what sort of challenge this is going to impose, or even how to go about it.

There is also a chance that reinstalling Spore might wipe those saves altogether. I should take a look at how Spore does it this afternoon and come back with a report then.

It seems I've underestimated the extent of Spore's obnoxious DRM. You can find saved creations, but Spore is probably just as likely to accept the files as "untampered" as saved games files are possible to find, i.e. not.

So i made some of this fried soup chicken i was talking about earlier.
my hands and cheeks are still burning.
I reccomand, no, DEMAND all of you to make and eat it.

    Protips:
1.do NOT threaten to and/or stab the chicken after placed on pan.
2.Dual fork technique is highly advised
3.Expirement. its not cooking, its SCIENCE!
4.Side dishes include fried vegtebles from the soup, and a mixture of all the remaining ingridients, includeing broken chicken meat parts.
