Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXI
Q 1129
Spoiler
Thrown Weapons: Daggers, clubs, shortspears, spears, darts,
javelins, throwing axes, light hammers, tridents, shuriken, and nets
are thrown weapons. The wielder applies his or her Strength modifier
to damage dealt by thrown weapons (except for splash weapons,
such as a vial of acid; see Throw Splash Weapon, page 158).
It is possible to throw a weapon that isn’t designed to be thrown
(that is, a melee weapon that doesn’t have a numeric entry in the
Range Increment column on Table 7–5), but a character who does so
takes a –4 penalty on the attack roll. Throwing a light or one-handed
weapon is a standard action, while throwing a two-handed weapon is
a full-round action. Regardless of the type of weapon, such an attack
scores a threat (a possible critical hit) only on a natural roll of 20 and
deals double damage on a critical hit. Such a weapon has a range
increment of 10 feet.
My question is basically this: Is throwing a spear a standard action or a full-round action? It seems like everything in the second paragraph is for weapons that are not designed to be thrown. But a spear is designed to be thrown. If I could play dungeons & dragons with only four books: MM I, DMG, PHB, & ToB

A 1129
A spear, like most every non-improvised weapon, uses an attack. You can take an attack as a standard action, or (with BAB of +6 or higher) multiple attacks as part of a full attack action. The weapon itself does not dictate the action used; instead it's a player choice.
The rules for improvised thrown weapons (i.e., melee weapons not designed for throwing) have no bearing on how you make normal ranged attacks.

Not normally. Succesfully sundering a weapon isn't usually dropping a creature and consequently doesn't trigger a cleave attempt.
If the sundered item is an intelligent item, it gets a bit fuzzy, and the feat combat-brute in complete warrior specifically allows you to attack the wielder after sundering his item at the same attack bonus.I am not seaweed. That's a B.

A 1130 Ask the DM.
A Boccob's Blessed Book is only 1" thick, so it can't hold more than about 100 pages without magic. That means that at least 90% of the pages are gone forever after Mordenkainen's Disjunction. It's going to take DM adjudication in every such case, deciding if 10% of the pages survive, and if so which ones. (The simple answer, of course, would be to decide that none of the pages survived.)

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXI
It's right on page 108 where the Aristocrat is described. Second paragraph, right before "Hit Die: D8."
A116: No.
EPH page 184:
When a creature uses a psi-like ability, the power is manifested as if the creature had spent a number of power points equal to its manifester level, which may augment the power to improve its damage or save DC. However, the creature does not actually spend power points for its psi-like abilities.

A 1120 clarification
A druid's animal companion does not use the standard creature advancement rules at all - it solely receives the gains listed under Animal Companions and it never changes size.
This also applies to familiars (obviously they advance as familiars not animal companions).

Q 1132
Do Touch Spells conveyed with a Duskblade's Arcane Channeling benefit from any improved Threat Range of the weapon (e.g. a Keen Scimitar), or do they still only score a threat on a 20?Let me give you a brief rundown of an average Post-3E Era fight: You attack an enemy and start kicking his shins. He then starts kicking your shins, then you take it in turns kicking until one of you falls over. It basically comes down to who started the battle with the biggest boot, and the only strategy involved is realizing when things have gone tits up and legging it.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXI
Q 1134
A flat-footed character with uncanny dodge obviously retains his DEX bonus to AC vs. a sneak attacker, but can this attacker if he hits add the sneak attack dice to his weapon damage? At least from the perspective of the target this is not a situation where it "would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC".
Q 1135 Maybe third time is the charm:
Is the CON damage from a charge attack with a valorous wounding weapon doubled?
Repost Time
I could really use an answer to Q 1114 and 1123 for tomorrow's game. Thanks in advance.Last edited by Andezzar; 2012-10-20 at 07:53 AM.

I know that quite a few creatures in various monster manuals and similar books say something like "a caster with access to Summon Monster X may exchange one of its creatures for a this". I know of no systemic method or collection of such creatures.

Not that I know of. Careful review of the Summoner's Handbook and all of its links may provide a way.

Q 1139
Can a greatsword and armor spikes both be used in the same full attack with the Two Weapon Fighting feat? As in, the greatsword used two-handed?
If so, what are the total attack penalties?
How about a longsword and a heavy shield, where the shield is not used as a weapon, but the armor spikes are?

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXI
Q 1139: Yes, with appropriate penalties.
Two weapon fighting has penalties applied to the attack rolls, for a Greatsword (2-handed weapon) and armor spikes (a light weapon), the penalties for two-weapon fighting are -4 with the primary hand (or primary weapon, presumably the greatsword) and -8 with the off-hand weapon (presumably the armor spikes) without the Two-Weapon Fighting Feat, or -2/-2 with the feat.
These penalties are applied to your normal attack bonus (BAB, Str bonus, other bonuses as applicable)
The same penalties are applied in the second case, as the longsword is not a light weapon.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXI
Q1140:
One of my players posed this question, and my brain is starting to hurt from all the player questions. Help me out. Is this legal by RAW?:
I also need a ruling on Linked Power.
Relevant Quote:
The linked power is automatically targeted on the same area or target as the power you manifest in this round (if the power you manifest this round has no area or target, choose an area or target in this round for the linked power to affect in the next round). If the same creature is targeted by both powers, the target experiences all the effects of both powers individually and receives a saving throw (if applicable) for each.Last edited by inexorabletruth; 2012-10-20 at 07:01 PM.

A 1139 Dispute:
The offhand weapon (the Armor Spikes) are a light weapon, so the penalties with TWF are -2/-2 rather than -4/-4.

Cleric and Paladin undead turning are separate. That means a Cleric 1/Paladin 4 gets turn undead attempts from both classes [2x (3 + CHA mod)], but the character's levels from the two classes do not combine to determine the maximum HD of undead affected.
I missed the special case. See KillianHawkeye's correction, below.

What kind of action does it take to use a bag of caltrops? Would it provoke an AoO, and can it be performed while moving/running?Last edited by Snowbear22; 2012-10-20 at 08:08 PM.

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXI
A 1141: Move action(s); yes; no.
Retrieving a stored item, like a bag of caltrops, takes a move action and provokes an AoO in the process. Once you have the caltrops in hand, manipulating the bag requires another move action. In most cases, moving or manipulating an item is a move action.

A 1137 correction
Turn Undead from multiple classes are the same ability. You get 3 + Cha uses. Your levels in the classes stack to determine your effectiveness.
