Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
All crusades were about power in a few tiers.
The pope wanted a few things.
a) Show he could amass an army to be reckoned with if the need arised.
b) Gain control of Jeruzalem as a pilgrim's destiny, as the catholic church used common targets of pilgrimages to amass money.
The nobles obliged, primarily because of the repercussions for not obliging to the pope. (The pope would excommunicate them, and then the biggest argument for the nobles to rule (god-given right) would be lost. In addition, this would make the populace severely unhappy. There would also be a pretty large chance of the pope commanding the attack at the noble's territory after the crusade)
The people/low ranking nobles obliged for one of two reasons.
1) Honest faith.
2) Fear of being branded as something negative (Coward, Heretic, something along one of those lines) and the repercussions it would bring.٩๏̯͡๏)۶

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
Not quite true, he(Urban) wanted to usurp power from the holy roman emperor(Henry IV) because the emperor had opposed the last pope(Gregory VII).
You also seem to be overly cynical about it disregarding the fact that Jerusalem is one of the Pentarchy's and the place where Jesus died. The church didn't exploit pilgrim's either as the pilgrim's lived off charity.
It was also giving aid to the Eastern Christians...
I just realised this is politics and religion, so I'm going to stop there.
EDIT: I'm going as well got a majorly bad headache.

I was trying to keep religion out of it, and keep it to a study of history.
Anyway, for a new topic, what do you guys think of this new fangled force sword they advertised on the Mars-Terran Alliance Public Channel I?٩๏̯͡๏)۶

I need to kill time. Anyone got any suggestions?
Preferably not ones including whipped cream and/or sponges. Anchovies are fine.
I hate being bored and not having a car.

The king of drawing, you say? I am intrigued and wish to learn more about this gentleman.
On further inspection, he seems to have a Magritte reference in his signature, a promising start if not for the fact that it doesn't work in this context.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
That would be me, yes. And, well, I dunno. I haven't been around much lately. School and all that...I want to get back into the forum scene, but I feel like I'm not really friends with anyone here anymore. Oh well.
Guess it's time to impress them all with my stunning lawn chair trivia knowledge!
@Jack: Since I'm alone and I'm at someone else's house, I think I'll limit myself to flash games, Facebook, websurfing, eating, and maybe watching some old 30 Rock episodes for now. Pretty exciting stuff, I know. Thanks for the ideas, anyway.
@^: I dunno if you're talking to me, but I assume so. If you are: I am not the king of drawing. I cannot draw. Really. As for the Magritte reference, I apologize if it doesn't work out. I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about Magritte and I don't speak French. I guess the cat's out of the bag now.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
Just because you English refuse to spell Jeruzalem right doesn't make the correct spelling wrong.
Or, rather, I am used to the Dutch spelling of the city, and because FF doesn't recognize many of the place names I try to type, I've learned to ignore FF complaining about city name spellings.
Also, important nitpick, that was spelling, not grammar.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
I have finished proof reading the essays that were weighing me down! Huzzah!
However... I am now just as tired as I was when I began the proof-reading... telling myself that I would have more energy once I was done.....
I had been considering hitting my favorite lounge club and watching the blues band they are having tonight.
However, that requires showering... and then having enough energy to go out.
And then once I am there I am probably just going to read my book on Chinese philosophy and scare all the local boys away anyways.
So why don't i Just stay in bed, read Prachett, or maybe go rent a movie....
Seems I am just as bored as Sneak, but I have a car, and a high concentration of things to do within walking distance, I just don't know what I want!!!!
I am currently concentrating on RL stuffs. If you need me PM me.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
Personally, as much as I love that thread, I'm laughing my butt off.
Seriously, as much as people talk about "winning" a thread and shouting for a thread to be locked when they don't like the direction a conversation is going (such as when they're losing an arguement ), I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.
Maybe he'll unlock the thread later, maybe not, but either way I find it hysterical (and perhaps a bit gratifying). But I'm just snarky and cynical like that, I guess.
Edit: Update! The thread has been unlocked. But I think I'll keep what I wrote in this post otherwise as-is to preseve the joke.

Turks do. I'm a Turk, so naturally it's the most correct spelling.
