I have 3 refined now - gonna hat craft on the server later on and get a golden wrench at the same time as my heavy duty rag. Optimism pays off!

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Any chance that we can either keep the server passworded for regulars, or else otherwise somehow lower key, for sake of achievements and such on evening one? Hell, we could do it the other way around, and keep it closed for normal play, since everyone who comes on will WANT to do achievements. Either we do them ourselves in an organized way, or we keep others out of it, since otherwise, the game just becomes a wreck =P

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Dont achievement farm on the server when its asked to be in use - Even ive been told off for that in the past.
If you wanted to lock the server for, say, an evening of fun maps, i think that would be different, but achievement farming... not so much.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
It's POSSIBLE, but I'm really quite hesitant to do such a thing. While some people will be trying for the achievements, others WILL want to play, and that will be true even amongst our regulars...
Basically, playing towards achievements is fine. Asking others to stop the game to help you get them is NOT fine, unless they'd still be having fun (for instance: asking me once to play Demoman for a bit so you can kill Demomen might be alright, but asking multiple people over and over, or after I've said no, would not be fine).Last edited by Djinn_in_Tonic; 2010-07-06 at 11:50 AM.
Ingredients
2oz Djinn
5oz Water
1 Lime Wedge
Instructions
Pour Djinn and tonic water into a glass filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with lime wedge. Serve.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
After the WAR! update, a number of us discussed it over alltalk and found an empty instant-respawn server. They're not too difficult to find, esp. at the right time of night. I remember the group of us spending a lot of time blowing each other up on Harvest that night. Do the same. If you think that getting the achievements will be too difficult around the people who want to play regular matches, you shouldn't have any trouble finding others who want to grind them out as well.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
See, I think that trying to fight achievement farming and play only regular rounds on Day One of the new update is gonna be a losing battle, and really more trouble than it's worth.
Even if no one is strictly farming, there's going to be so many engies that regular games are going to be moving at such a bizarre pace.
I think that, for the first couple days, we just need to accept that the server's gonna be weird, and focus only on those who are being an outright nuisance.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
You mean you don't want to see mecha-battles? Robot versus robot? For shame!
Besides, many Engies means many Spies means many Pyros means many Snipers. It will balance itself out.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
1. Everyone plays engi
2. We release demomen, soldiers, and medics to take care of the engi infestation
3. We release pyros and heavies to clear the demomen and soldiers problem
4. We release scouts, spies, and snipers to kill the oversupply of heavies and pyros.
5. We release 5,000 pound man-eating gorillas to kill off the Scouts, spies, and snipers.
6. Everybody's happy. It always amazes me how often people on forums would rather accuse you of misreading their posts with malice than re-explain their ideas with clarity.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Pretty much what I mean =P We prolly oughta try to decide what we wanna do. I only say it because I know that normal games will be tough to run, and the regulars will almost (guaranteed) all be likely to get shut out of the server. Server is already full 24/7 practically, and now it'll be full + bonus people just looking to play engie :P
If we password something, regulars can hang out and either play normal rounds OR do said achievement mongering. More specifically, regular rounds (since I'm sure everyone here has somewhere else they could go for the achievement stuff if they wanna). I'm just saying it now, so people can discuss if they wanna take any action before thursday-friday.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
I'm all for adding a password for a couple of days.
Just like GITP or something simple, as with the update all the regulars will want to be on and if we can't get on our server we're gonna feel real silly.
And then it's simply a matter of who's on as to whether its achievement hunting or regular game.
(Depending on said achievements, I'll probably be doing a regular game or helping people get their achievements. Just throwing that out there.)

Should we schedule a general achievement party on SHaFT, then? Push out an event to the ChHa steam group?

Thought it'd be the Shotgun which got that property, but alas. Still quite interesting new use of existing materials. Like the name of some of the achievements though.
Edit: I just realised. Now 2 Engies with Lvl 3 Sentries can create a form of makeshift artillery. THIS IS EPICLast edited by Byrnbot08; 2010-07-06 at 06:49 PM.

We'll have to see how it's implemented. If it's easy to use; can kill spies with it, people edging, etc. Then it may well be a decent alternative.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
I can imagine this making the sentry a makeshift heavy machine gun placement. Still, can the engineers do it remotely? i.e. from spawn?
Also, calling one of the taunts as a guitar, and that 100 wrenches unlocks a new sentry and Meet the Medic/Pyro.Last edited by dromer; 2010-07-06 at 07:19 PM.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
I think I approve of this, but I'm not sure.
It'll make turtling harder to break, but it definitely helps combat engie. I'm interested to see this one in action.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Wouldn't be so sure about turtling, given the vulnerbilities it creates I think it might be deemed a liability to use it when under the pressure turtlers can expect.
One thing that bugs me about it is that it allows the engineer to break the range constraints of the guns. Sentries are too accurate to make long range attacks bearable. I hope Valve will address that.Steamname: Atheist God, if you're lucky.
