You ask to join and use the powers they give you to kill them.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
@TE: I had a character once who did portal spam. That was her only power. She didn't abuse it to anywhere near the extent that Chez does, and she still broke the first plot she was in. After that, I never put her into anything serious, because it wasn't fair to the other players.
I hereby propose Happy's First Law of Power Levels: If three or more players agree that a character is overpowered, it is. It doesn't matter how killable they are, what their weaknesses are, or what you can come up with to justify how they got their powers. The point is that if it makes other players (not characters) feel frustrated when they work against the character or useless when they work with them, then you are not contributing to the overall level of fun in the community.
Your. Characters. Are. Overpowered. If you don't want to alienate all the players in the Nexus, then you need to whap Chez and Mercury at least with the nerf bat, hard. To paraphrase DC, just because you can play a character that powerful in the Nexus doesn't mean you should. To put it bluntly, you are annoying the players around you and you aren't listening when we try to give you advice.
The people who are critiquing your roleplay and characters are trying to help you. We've seen the pattern over and over again - 1. new player discovers the Nexus, realizes there are no dice or point limits or money limits and they can finally come up with the character concept they've always wanted. 2. Player makes one or more characters that are over the top powerful and romp through threads spreading chaos. 3. Other players point out how unfun this is for everyone else. This is the step you are stuck at, and those of us who have been here for years have seen it many many times.
Step 4 can go one of two ways. Either 'Player learns to tone it down, stops trying to hog the spotlight, and becomes part of the community' or 'Player ignores everyone's advice and pisses everyone off to the point where no one wants to roleplay with them anymore.'
Short of getting banned from the forums, you can't get kicked out of the Nexus or the ffrp subforum. But you also can't force people to interact with your characters. You aren't the GM. If they don't want to play, they just won't undeadtime around you or go into threads or locations that your characters control.
Go and read Firefox's essay. Actually read it and think about it. And think about what you are here in ffrp for. What's your goal here? As a player, not a character? What do you want out of ffrp?
Don't just type out an answer as soon as you read this post. Actually think about it. Spend some time.
As a player, you have a lot to offer the community with your energy, enthusiasm, and creativity, so I really hope you can take this to heart and listen to the advice that other people are giving you.
Good luck.My avatar! Isn't it just utterly diabolical? Ashen Lilies made it!

Or just ignore your actions.
And I have to agree with what has been said earlier. OPedness is as much a fact of personality as much as the amount of power they have.
If you do want to bring a high-powered character (as opposed to OPed) into a fight, ASK FIRST, in fact. That's what I do with my Exalted characters, ESPECIALLY if they would dominate the fight by being higher-powered than everything else in the fight. Or if I think they might.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
This is still waaaaaaaaaay OP. Spell resistance + Tropes + That Utter Wallbanger of a Gun = So OP that I'm coughing blood.
Forget the resistance. Trope-powers, okay. Give a guy those and make him weak otherwise. Maybe he's good at getting the strong people info they need to get the job done.
The gun... don't. Just do not make a character with that frigging gun. No matter your *coughs blood* intentions, it will end up OP.
If you do make a character with said gun, I most likely will conveniently not see any part of any post he is mentioned in.Last edited by Beans; 2010-12-02 at 05:43 AM.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
*Pants heavily after having caught up* How am I supposed to think up a character when this thread moves so Macintosh fast! I mean, I could just write him up and be done with it but I won't! It would be a disgrace not to make a picture!
I have, the ABR (Fanart section, basically an FFRPG with comics instead of written posts) threads used to be called on the first page or in the previous thread's second page back when we were still wondering about why the threads where lasting so long (about ten days at the time)
Ooh, interesting O_O
Sounds like Berem from Dragonlance, poor guy could never be reunited with his family and would always be resurrected.
Surprisingly sane for a guy who had died hundreds of time and remembered every second of it.
That's funny, it's phonetic to me. Must be because I live barely north of Germany, I can't tell one funny accent from the other
Wow
I'm thankful I don't have that much to read... Waitaminute! I read more than that trying to catch up with stuff outside of Nexus! get yer lazy ass reading, ya dang youngsterTreasured Quotes

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
Aww, but where's the fun in that?
I seriously just read every new post for the last two (badang you Nexus joining and homework doing!) days in six FFRPGs (Albeit only about a page of text in each) and a little less in the Fanart section.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
In other news, I realize that both the Glass Citadel and the Weald are waiting on me to post. Sorry, I've just had to pick and choose which threads were more important (with ongoing non-plot interactions, NBR and the Slowest. Vandalism. Ever. obviously getting precedence). Expect posts from me this weekend. Probably.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
Um...not really, Maxios. Characters may be made with the intention of joining a certain group, but it's kind of unusual for them to come in as part of the group to begin with.
Although I don't look into HALO much...but if there were lots of characters joining HALO back then, they didn't exactly stretch their legs and leave the thread very often. Before you criticise someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
Hmm sorry for bringing this up again but,
In regards to RPGsr4me and TE’s “plan” to blockade the bars. How would blocking Trog’s even work when it exists in both cities at once?
“gasp there is an legion of golems blocking the Inside entrance to the tavern … enters Trog’s from TOWN yay.”
Oh and remember, turn about is fair play …
And I shall say nothing further on the subject.
-------------------------
On a completely separate note.
How is this character concept? The Mage Masher.
-This character is based off of an old 3rd edition prestige class The Forsaker. Basically, he had a thoroughly traumatic experience with magic. Hates magic, believes magic is unnatural. Personally, he has realized not all magic is evil and tries to tolerate living in a magic filled world. Other than that he is a normal “happy” person and an average fighter.
-Abilities/ equipment: Has magic resistance to a degree, however this reduces the effectiveness of healing magic. He has several anti-magic abilities most powerful of which only active well under attack by magic; dispel, anti-magic field, dismissal, and disjunction. Losses all abilities if uses magic such as using a wand/scroll or drinking a potion, even if forced. He can break magic items by effectively reducing hardness, not functional against “natural” magic materials methril or adamantine etc. He believes that if he does not destroy at least one magic item per day the mages will win and his powers will dissapear. Carries potions and scrolls with him so he can break them. Will not own magical armor or weapons, but hold a massive amount of Rods of Cancellation, greater rods of cancellation, the ten foot pole of cancellation etc.
-I could see this character fitting into several roles / organisations.
Questions, comments, concerns, edits?

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
So, does joining the LANTERNs (Even for purposes somewhat nefarious) simply require entering the thread? 'Cause this whole thing is kinda fiddly.

Re: [NEXUS] OoC VI: Do You Think You Can Handle It?
Detect Evil's a bit interesting actually. What does it do on a non-Dnd character, from a world where alignment isn't objective. I would never have Raz show up on any alignment scan, because he's not a magical evil being, and from a world based loosely on the real one.
