Re: Iron Chef Optimization Challenge XV
I liked Laph, so I PM'd true_shinken and asked that he win the tie.
Congrats to everyone! For the record, Rancor1's Simon the Incompetent Archer was my favorite out of the competition But there were definitely some excellent builds here!Handbooks: (Hosted on the new MixMax forums)

Incidentally, T.G. Oskar, I originally had Psionic Lion's Charge, but decided I could do charges in other ways already, and wanted a boost to damage output.

Re: Iron Chef Optimization Challenge XV
Congrats to the other winners. The field was, once again excellent, and the judging was exciting and informative. I always enjoy seeing how different people see different concepts. (Gazebo Jones was my favorite, BTW. Amazing concept!)
Vermillion was my entry this time around, and was my attempt at "simple yet capable". A build doesn't have to be complicated to do the job well. I could have complicated him a bit with LA buyoff and a wish list of magic items, but he honestly didn't need it.
A judge or two commented about my lack of including magic items, but I'm a big believer in items NOT being part of a character concept. Sure, there are exceptions like Legacy Weapons and Soulmelds, but it's otherwise just a shopping list. Yes, there are items out there on everyone's wish list that are very useful and could improve a character's capabilities, but they just aren't part of the concept itself..

Re: Iron Chef Optimization Challenge XV
Ok, Wow, so it's finally done!
This was a really interesting challenge, and I really had no clue who was going to win after I did my judging. Everyone's builds were REALLY good this time, with great stories and characters all around; even the ones I didn't score super-high really impressed me.
Big ups to OMG Ponies on his 3rd gold trophy! Nini is probably one of the best put-together entries, looking back I probably didn't give him as much elegance as I should have, but hey, you still won!
To GBPrime - I just got Shink's message about Vermillion's Savage Progression thing, and I am sorry, I didn't remember the rules correctly for that. In the end, it didn't hurt your score that much, and congrats on second place!
My favorites out of this one (which you can probably tell from my comments already) were Bu and Gazebo. Gazebo for the dark humor and awesomeness of drunk furniture murdering people, and Bu for the excellent backstory that truly recalled some of my favorite kung-fu movies (a guy who learns a style so he can slowly assassinate its practitioners? Classic!).Last edited by Grynning; 2010-12-02 at 08:38 PM.

Re: Iron Chef Optimization Challenge XV
No wonder why it's irony. Usually, one gets the good ideas after posting, or decides to adventure without going for gut instinct.
Then again; even the errata ignores this, so one minor investment that's questionable enough (such as a power stone of Psionic Lion's Charge) would have been enough. After all, once you manifest it, it remains with you forever (though that's certainly not the intention, it does say it's an instantaneous effect and all you need is to augment it for permanent pouncing ability ;P). Still, Laph would have delivered mondo amounts of damage and hits with that.
Still: no Vanara!? >.< That could have delivered some originality! Besides, it fit the Sun Wukong photo (which teaches you not to provide a photo when the character doesn't look anything like that!)
As for favorite builds...I guess I don't have to explain which of them were my faves, right? I did mention Laph and Vermilion were lovely because of being simple yet effective, and Laph mostly because it spiced it with psionics.
So...next competition, please? I presume it'll be Duelist, though...
Sorta like Kill Bill meets the Transformers. But they'd do a nice combo as well (Gazebo hides in, Bu uses him as an "improvised weapon", the Drunken Master disarms him, Gazebo entangles him and Bu delivers the killing blow while Gazebo eats him with his acidic ooze). Though I really expected Gazebo to transform into an empty bottle and Bu breaking the bottle, making Gazebo get pissed off royally and back-bite him.Last edited by T.G. Oskar; 2010-12-02 at 09:39 PM.

Re: Iron Chef Optimization Challenge XV
Ouch, people really didn't like the idea of breaking elves over orcs' heads. I thought it would amuse people more than that.
Out of curiosity, what would it have likely done to my scores if I'd stopped at wielding people, and ignored the natural 1 clause?Quotebox

Re: Iron Chef Optimization Challenge XV
I loved the idea, but personally wouldn't allow it in a game for the sheer fact that improvised weapons are objects, and creatures are specifically defined in the context of D&D as not being objects. Unfortunately, you can't wield people (though some options, like Fling Ally, allow you to move them).
