Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
...I love how you can talk about strippers and no one notices, but the fact that you've never had alcohol makes you somehow not worldly.
Also, champagne is...meh. Lightly bitter is how I'd describe the taste. It's almost more of a feel than a taste, though, it's not all that flavorful. I recommend good tequila instead.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Champagne is a place in France. Officially, no one is supposed to call sparkling white wine champagne unless it comes from that place in France (at least where they can enforce it), but guess what? Nobody cares. For all intents and purposes, they are one and the same.
Bitter? Not flavourful? What champagne have you been drinking?

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Now I just had a weird thought... That's too strange to say...
Rawhide is correct. Nobody cares except for wine makers in Champagne and the village of Champagne in Switzerland.
The name is protected by the 1891 Treaty of Madrid and was reaffirmed by the 1919 Treaty of Versailles. As the United States was not signatory to the Treaty of Versailles, they were allowed to continue using the term until 2006 when a court ruling decreed that only wine producers who had approval prior to 2006 could continue doing so and that no new approvals would be given out.
But as I said... Only wine producers actually care. Everyone else just wants their imitation champagne to be sparkling despite where it was made.Mauve Shirt, Savannah, Gnomish Wanderer, Cuthalion and Smuchmuch get cookies for making me avatars. (::)

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Wrong. The best alcohol is good tequila. Followed closely by dark rum. But still followed.
I recommend Cuban rum. That has nothing at all to do with me being Cuban. Nope.
Eh, those aren't the right words. It's not really bitter so much as...the flavor that stands out to me is...I suppose I'd call it slightly metallic, and that's the first word that came to mind to describe it. I mean, it's not really a sweet taste, and definitely not savory, salty, or sour, so...
And it's definitely not bland, but my experiences with champagne have made me feel the flavor was best described as...light or subtle. It's late, language fails me.
EDIT: Also, I was not recommending tequila to Zodi because I was trying to get her drunk, I was doing so because it's my favorite alcoholic...thingy. And yet I know so few of you will believe me. I really don't deserve this Lothario reputation I've somehow developed, I swear. >.<Last edited by Cobra_Ikari; 2012-09-30 at 05:40 AM.

I quite like them. The series draaaaagggggssss on a bit too much for my liking and there's some unfortunate gender related annoyances, but overall they're pretty good. The prose is very captivating; the imagery is very vivid, and I really like how myths and rumors are handled very organically in the universe.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Well, wine buffs care. Champagne is often, though by no means always, of a higher quality than other sparkling wine. If it's produced just outside the region using the same method then it'll probably be pretty much the same, but it might equally just be some ghastly sparkling plonk in a bottle, from any old grape or terroir. There is a kind of minimum quality associated with the Champagne label, which is what gives it its cachet.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Pretty much that.
I may not like champagne but it's in the same category as a cornish pasty, Melton Mowbray pork pie or stilton. That's a specific thing, with a certain level of quality guaranteed.
I know what those things taste like like and if I was expecting a stilton and got some other blue cheese packaged as stilton, I'd be pretty cheesed off.
damn right pun intended

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Your pun may have been intended, but it was downright terrible. Worthy of execution if I do say so myself.
True, I do admit that there would be a certain quality associated in order for them to have the right to deny the name to every other country on the planet by international treaty...
But still, most people don't care. They want food and drink made to a high quality that is what it says it is, preferably without added salt.
Anyway, I'm going to bed because it's almost eleven here in Australia. Good night everyone!Last edited by Elemental; 2012-09-30 at 07:48 AM.

All I know is that there is this thing called the Tapestry, and there are people who are trained to literally burn people from it, effectively unmaking them. And that this is amazing and I love it.
Ok, minor lie, I also knew it dragged on for quite a bit (and with the author dead, it's kinda hanging in the aether, so to speak).
All I know about Tequila is that there's a really annoying harlot named after it, and it's got a funny rhyme. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor~

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Yes: also, wine-growing is an eminently fickle undertaking; small differences in the climates [number of sunlight hours, rainfall, temperature of days and nights during ripening] and soils of wine-growing regions makes a huge difference in the character of the wine. Champagne has a region uniquely suited for growing the grapes for champagne. France -- given its proximities to two seas, its funky topography, and Europe's weird variety of soil types -- has a lot of microclimates.
The regional right to use the appellation also carries with it a number of rather strict standards of production, to which imitators are not bound: so yes, indeed, bona fide Champagne is far far less likely to be ghastly sparkling plonk [love that phrase].
To say that nobody cares is foolish.

Does this mean you have no bills lower than a 5? Strange. I like it thought. I often wish the US used more coins. They're just so fun.
There's an ice cream stand in my area that gives change only in half-dollar coins and two dollar bills. Many thanks to Ceika for my Avatar

As far as I know, no. Euros are pretty great though. Uhm, we have 1,2,5,10,20 and 50 cent pieces and then pieces of 1 and 2 euros. The best part is that each country has a whole array of own versions of the coins, there's quite a few people trying collect all the different versions and there's already a ton of them.
