    Candle Jack
    HP 20/37, Surges 6/6

When the crescendo of violence reaches its peak, Jack is whooping and whirling as the remainder of his arcane sigils flicker and dissipate, forming a wickedly smiling version of his face as they sparkle out.

He olds up one hand in the center of the arena, and greenish Witchfire spouts from his hand, showing that the owner of the volcano has changed.

"Candle Jack, Candle Jack. Spew rocks at him, and he'll send you right back!" I really need some new rhymes.

And with that thought, he grimaces, and walks towards the new door. With an Otherworldly Stride, he winks out of existence midstep and appears immediately in front of the door. He takes one more bow and heads inside.

    Gryllik

Gryllik watches the impressive display of the volcano's defeat, takes several deep breaths to work the battle lust out of his system, and walks purposefully out of the arena.

The gnoll begins to hyena-giggle again quietly as he approaches the exit.

    Another victory in Kord's name
    , he thinks to himself.

Alarius simply holds his open hand up to the crowd in an acknowledging gesture as he leans his spear onto his shoulder and walks out towards the door.

Candle Jack, does any wound completely lack!
    HP 37/37, Surges 4/6

Candle Jack giggles to himself as he notices that he suffered little more than some burn marks on his armor and a little fatigue. He sits and rests and tells jokes to the air.

"What do you call a mountain of fire that doesn't blow? How about a volca-NO!" He bursts into a fitful throe of laughter.

Your medic (or more likely the real medic's assistant) follows you up a short flight of stairs into the waiting room, which adjoins the arena infirmary on one side. The room is mostly deserted at the moment, but neither area appears designed to hold a very large number of people. At one side of the infirmary, you see a silver circle set into the floor. Out of the corner of your eye, you can just catch a glimpse of something insubstantial standing in the center of the ring.

Glancing warily at the silver ring, the assistant leads your team to the opposite side of the room. He waves over another assistant; holding a faintly glowing crystal-tipped wand, the other young man begins tending to your most obvious wounds as the first page converses with the head physician.

Clad in a basic green tunic, the head physician bears the distinguishing marks of Forenti's battlecaster regiments; in fact, the ceremonial gear of the 'casters, buffed to a mirror shine, lies strewn across a shelf on one side of the room. The man is blue-eyed, maybe forty or fifty years old, with short graying hair (drawn back in a short ponytail, as is the Forenti style) and the huge curling three-pointed moustache inexplicably favored by Forentine fighting-men.

("Nothing there, sir. Only a whole ton of ash, and I really don't think we want to use that as a focus." - "Thaumic traces?" - "Nothing hopeful, sir." - "Damn. This is not going to be a fun procedure; I think we'll have to wait until the Crows come on shift, and even then... hn. You go downstairs, say there's no way we'll have the mage back up in time.")

Raising his voice, the physician turns to you: "Welcome! ...to my infirmary. Unfortunately, I can't get your mage--Djelekh?--back on his feet in the ten minutes we've got here. My assistant will be downstairs, arranging for a replacement. Regaardless! ...do any of you haave trouble breathing? A racking cough--ah, one that you didn't have before now? A good dose of volcanic dust to the lungs can be about as good for you as a nice big spoonful of broken glaass, and it's a devil to set without cutting you open."

[You've got ten minutes. As per standard rules, you can spend all the healing surges you want. Alarius, your words will recharge twice; that is, you can use two now and still have two in the next encounter.]

Alarius (22/45) takes a deep breath, and toughs it out, spending a healing surge to bring himself back up to 45/45. No, that badly burned cut on his side and that huge bruise don't hurt, why do you ask?

"Alright, Gryllik. You've proved you can take a hit or two... now really honor Kord, and take your wounds in stride! We've got a lot of fighting left to do today, and you won't do your god any favors by dying on me!""Go beyond the impossible! Heal your wounds with my exclamations! That's the Team 2 Way! Don't believe in yourself, believe in me, who believes in you!"
...Using both Inspiring Words on Gryllik, as he appears to be quite bloody. He can use 2 surges, and recover an additional (2d6+8)[13] HP.

EDIT: Ah, I spent too long trying to write up my post. Can Gryllik not spend those healing surges he wanted to initially, and instead take my Inspiring Words to heal up to 49/50 while spending only two surges?

A few minutes after the medic's assistant leaves the room, a sound of clattering metal and leather boots sliding on stone steps come from the portal. The door swings open to show a round dwarf standing with an enormous smile plastered on his round, red, pudgy face.

Hello all, my name is-- His sentence is cut short because the baldric draped over his shoulder catches on the door latch, spinning the over-exuberant dwarf around. The force of the spin, mixed with the unbalanced weight from the waraxe perched precariously on the baldric, is too much for the dwarf to maintain his balance. His feet tie up with each other and he tumbles to the ground, the butt of his axe soundly bumping him in the lip.

He quickly scrambles to his feet and tries to dust himself off. With a slight chuckle his hand tests his tender lip, now sporting a rather large lump.

Well, that was quite a spill, eh? Oooh. That one stings. Is it puffing up? He displays his lip for everyone to see. He jumps when he realizes he hasn't properly introduced himself yet. Oh. Silly me. Hello all, my name is Thorfulk. I wield the power of the mighty Kord and smite my enemies. He tries his best to add a theatrical flair to his introduction by quickly drawing his axe, spinning it in the air, and catching it in his hands. And, it might have worked, had he not dropped the axe after tossing it. He dances to the side to avoid the run-away blade. With a sheepish chuckle he looks from person to person and then quickly picks up his fallen axe. Well, I guess I haven't quite gotten that one yet. Close though.

Waiting to be led out, Sans Team into the arena, Phillipe Meyer cursed his luck that his entire team had been consumed by the collection of Oozes they had faced in their last battle. Although he had dispatched them in the end, his team, he was told, would not be ready for the next round. Apparently gelatine took time to eat through, especially, as all the while it ate away at what they were trying to save.

An attendant rushed down to him. 'Hey you! We need you at another gate, we found you a replacement team,' Or rather found them a replacement meat-shield he thought. Life is Brutal. He was convinced he would already be dead if it wasn't for the guidance of Bahamut. He clasped his holy symbol in his hands, and headed off to meet his doom.

Your introductions are interrupted by a yelp of pain, descending into a rolling growl. "--hey, you big rat! Easy! Trying to help you out here!" Hackles up, Malaphakt continues to glare hungrily at the unlucky (if dangerously impolite) assistant. The gnoll bares his teeth, displaying a considerable array of jagged teeth; a thin trickle of drool runs down the side of his jaw. The page edges cautiously backwards, staring at him for a long moment. Over time, Malaphakt slowly relaxes--as does the page, who then turns to mutter something to the other assistant.

    Gnolls have very sharp hearing.

The two assistants leap to different sides as a snarling, frenzied Malaphakt hurls himself through the space they had occupied, claws extended and slavering jaws wide. The first page scrambles over several beds, grabbing a metal side table to shield himself from Malaphakt's claws. They scramble one after the other across the room, the young man staying just ahead of the frenzied gnoll, until they reach the far end. Finding himself cornered, the page shrinks down to the floor, holding the metal tray out in front of him as Malaphakt leaps in a trajectory that just barely touches the silver circle

    shift

and Malaphakt is gone. A slight breeze blows across the room. The page stands, eyes wide. Something barely-real shifts inside the ring, then grows still. A long minute passes in silence.

Charles Trenston lets out a long, contemplative hiss. "Well. Constance, track down Foren. Tell him to double that laast order, and send the... other one... to the south entry."

"No, wait. We're running low on time. I will do that; you escort these gentlemen downstairs."

    ----

Downstairs, the "south entry" turns out to be the tunnel you first entered the arena through. The scarred man from before is still on duty. "Well, at least we have time this round; Above and Below, it's nice when these people know their jobs. One minute 'til showtime, give or take, and your fifth man should be along any second now."

Why is it that Tampa International Airport has free wifi, and the buses in Austin have free wifi, but the airports in Texas only have expensive wifi? Anyway. I PMed Anonomuss about the continuity gap, suggesting he alter his account slightly (and possibly delete, then repost it after this update).

I'll be moving on after Anonomuss replies and before 25 hours have elapsed; you can roll for initiative now or after entering the arena, whichever is more convenient to you.

Phillipe found the team waiting in the tunnel, as the arena was prepared for their entrance. They stood cool and calm, as professional as could be expected from any who had lasted a full round of the Tourney. He approached them. 'Ah, it appears as though you are without another of your party. You and I are then both in luck, as I find myself without a team.

The dragonborn bows. 'My name is Phillipe Meyer, Born of the Dragon, and although I have lived my life amongst humans, I have dedicated my life to the Platinum dragon.' He glanced quietly around the room, noticing, perhaps for the first time the pronounced devotion to Kord. 'I would be proud to fight beside such honorable warriors of Kord. Candle Jack, doesn't always need to rhyme.

Oh, I quite like this dwarf fellow! Jack engages the wayward dwarf in rapid conversation the whole way down the tunnel. Of course, a close listener would notice that he mostly seems to be talking to himself.
