Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
You're perceiving an argument! I've given up and compromised!
This isn't the Ogre debate, we aren't enemies. I was simply suggesting an idea and now you're on my case. I am prolonging no argument, because there is no argument.
EDIT: I'm trying to bow out, but whenever I say so, DLB yells at me.Last edited by The Gremlin; 2009-10-04 at 09:24 PM.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
Thinking about a comic. Methos, can I assume that your characters have a Scribe-magic notebook for contacting headquarters?

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
Maybe it can, by especially skilled Scribe Mages. They know how it works, and can trap it, delaying messages, changing them.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
It probably could, I just can't imagine how you would do such a thing using Scribe Magic, though maybe certain scribe mages can do it.
Edit: in which case there is no such thing as "Untraceable" Scribe Magic communication, just notebooks that are harder to intercept.Last edited by BRC; 2009-10-04 at 11:19 PM.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
Untraceable could be the reference to something that is actually theoretically traceable but practically untraceable... like... is possible to break any cryptography in world... but some would take you twice the age of the universe with the current technology.
Maybe Karrish actually see their magic as a complex science.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
Maybe they created a closed link between two notebooks instead of sending it freely... making it harder, if not impossible, to intercept?
The downside being you can only send and receive to one source.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
That's how the Notebooks work anyway. They're made in sets, usually of 2. Anything written in one appears in the other and vice-versa. There are some that can work in other ways, more like a phone, but it usually takes a scribe mage to "Dial" one. The simple 2-notebook version is the standard.
One advantage of this is that nobody bothers stealing one of these notebooks, because one is useless without the other.
Edit: And the Karrish do seem the type to treat their magic more academically than most. After all, the Karrish see Scribe Magic as a skill, not a profession. Most professional Scribe Mages hold some other job, like Librarian or Accountant (Both very important positions in Karrish society).Last edited by BRC; 2009-10-05 at 12:00 AM.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXVII: The Plot Pandemic
Ah, I see... well, then maybe they just use extra power to make it harder to intercept? I dunno.
I mean, imagine the recipient notebook is a computer, with it's own IP address. Someone wanting to get your message could magic their notebook to have the same IP address, if they were really good.
So, you use more powerful (and harder) magic, meaning it's harder for them to get your message!
