Hmm. Pacing felt a bit quick to me (it seemed there should have been more of a delay between Serrin defending Lloyd and Tinder asking if he was hiding something) but it's not enough to be a problem. Dramatic reveal of a dark past (and name change) is good. Inevitable flashback showing Lloyd doing Bad Things (TM) makes my inner evil fangirl cackle with glee.

I'd have to guess that it would be the same thing that made Miko so bad. So caugt up in performing her duty to her gods (or what she thought was her duty to her gods) she couldn't see the evil in her own actions. And seeing how Janine is under the impression that the Plavvan gods are evil and junk, it's not much of a stretch from "Their Gods are Evil" -->>"They must be evil"

Sounds to me like an Astrid (or non-monster class Humanoid) supremacist group. Supremacists are almost always bad in any setting.

I say 'almost' because i'm sure there's at least one setting where the only other races in existence feed on souls.
