    Adrien Chenkov

Seeing Logan handle more of the horde, Chenkov pulls out his weapon, and slows down local time, sprinting towards the horde of spiders, and simply leaping over them to land by one of the CHSs.

    Spoiler

    Acrobatics Check: (1d20+19)[34]

He lands on the other side of the computerized spider, and in an effort to both disable it and get the creature's attention, shoots the top of the monitor just as he arcs over it. Trying to read what the monitor's contents were at the same time was tricky, forcing the young mutant to overextend his field. It briefly flickers, and Adrien is forced to concentrate to reestablish it.

Chenkov manages to get a really good look at the screen, thanks in part to his slowing down time. Lots of it is weird command line gobbledygook, but he does make out the following:

He then fires directly downward at the thing, but the CHS blinks mere inches out of the way of the bullet, completely unharmed.

"Damnit, Zeb! ... alright, I'm going to wait another 30 seconds, you go on ahead. Keep your comms on so I can find you. Be careful."

The two of you invisibly enter the building, and find yourself in a long nondescript hallway lit by bright fluorescent lights. Padding down it, giving your cloak time to adjust to the background, you see a 4-way split up ahead. Hanging from the ceiling, you see what looks like a security camera right in the middle of the intersection; Franklin notices that the little light you'd expect to see on such a camera is out, and that the camera is not moving.

Sea of Spiders; End of Round 2

Logan does... whatever it is that he does (fluff and mechanics pending).

Flying to where Aegis is standing on the little island of rock, Jubilee waves her arm, unleashing a fan of screeching plasma that takes out about a dozen of the closest spiders, making some breathing space. However, with the clack of metal against rock, you see more spiders rushing towards you.
    Spoiler
    Show

Jubilee uses Extra Effort to power stunt a Cone Area Blast 8 (best I could do stunting off her base powers). She clears the area around Aegis of any immediate threat of spiders this round, though more are moving into position. She's got no hero points though so she's gonna be fatigued next round which I'm not going to cancel to balance out what I did with Vic, see below.

Meanwhile, Vic continues barreling his dream car through the spiders, trying to make his way to where Chenkov was battling the second CHS. Most of the spiders manage to leap out of his path; a few are unlucky and are crushed under his squeeling tires or bounce off the hood of his Pontiac GTO.
    Spoiler
    Show

Vic uses his dream car to create a Trail Area Strike 10 effect; his car is equipment, which you normally can't use Extra Effort with, but I'm going to say its a maneuver Vic is performing, not the car, and also I'm the damn GM. However, the car takes some damage, the equivalent of 2 "Injuries" (-2 to Toughness checks).

Vic can't run over all the spiders, however; a gang of spiders rushes up onto the land island, all aiming their talons at Chenkov. Despite his agility and reality-warping ability, Chenkov is unable to dodge all the spiders and is struck by a number of raking claws; he is, however, able to lessen the impact by instinctively messing with the very nature of momentum.
    Spoiler
    Show

9 spiders attack: 8 spiders perform the Aid action; 6 succeed, giving the last spider +12 to hit in addition to his own attack bonus. Guess what, he hits. Your Toughness save of 14+8=22 fails; you are Bruised. Wow, first status ailment you guys got this entire fight!

The CHS that Chenkov was fighting does a little bit of acrobatics of its own; it blinks clear into the air about ten feet, getting high enough to be able to get line of sight over its spider cousins, and a blast of intense white lightning erupts from its monitor head; fortunately, Chenkov manages to dodge in a blur of limbs just in time, and the lightning bolt slams into the dusty red rock.
    Spoiler
    Show

CHS fires into melee, but thanks to Precise Shot doesn't take a penalty and Chenkov doesn't have Elusive Target. However, the CHS misses with its lightning attack.

So, we've got 9 spiders and the second CHS on Chenkov and Vic. Jubilee and Aegis are on another rock island with spiders closing in. Logan is way back at the end of the caldera. With all the CHS's, you can still make DC15 Notice checks to try to read whats on their displays as a standard action.

Your turn, though I'm still waiting on Jallorn's nebulous attack.

Also, I'm being vague with the number of spiders, but generally, any significant Area attack you perform will clear the immediate area of spiders, giving you a round of no spider attacks. There are so many spiders, however, that 8-10 will always rush in to take their place, plus more are dropping from the sky, so they are pretty much always gonna be around. Tactically, someone has to spend a round clearing spiders if you don't want to get attacked.

    Aegis, Sea of Spiders

"Woo! I changed that channel!" Aegis shouts while celebrating over the downed Spider. He grins back to Jubilee, who had been wrecking things in her own right, and he gives her a thumbs up. "I like your style there, Rainbow Bright."

He looks across the battlefield for his next opponent and he sees Adrien being swarmed by spiders. Aegis narrows his eyes in concern. "Alright, Jubilee, let's get some a' these bugs off a' Tex over there."

Aegis then kicks off of the outcropping, flying across the battlefield at the CHS. Aegis flies onto the top of the outcropping, stopping for a brief moment to grin at Adrien. "I got your back, kid!" He then flies upwards at the CHS, pushing the speed of his imaginary flight to try and catch the thing with an uppercut before it can teleport away. If he hits, he'll try to grab onto the beast and then slam it down back onto the outcropping.

Grunting in pain, Adrien nods at Aegis's response. Thinking quickly, he relays the details of the CHS's computer monitor to everyone, his voice carrying throughout the area. Thinking quickly, he acts to change local gravity, sending a batch of spiders soaring into the air as they find what was previously solely an attractive force repulsive.

As he does so, he hums a brief snatch of song, relaxing himself. Here, the "body" was totally subordinate to the will, unlike the outside world. Pain was merely an illusion here. Injuries, likewise.

Rose, Franklin; Sneaking around the Cube Building

You head toward what the helpful sign says is "Physical Plant." The entire building is eerily quiet, other than the hum of the fluorescent lights. You can barely hear the raging battle being waged outside. Creepy.

The hall winds a bit, and you pass by yet another nonfunctional security camera. Weird, you think.

Eventually the hall opens up into a very large open area: its like the working floor of a large factory, and seems to take up most of the Cube building's above ground space. There is complicated looking machinery everywhere, some partially built, with what look like robotic arms you'd see at a car mass production facility poised, frozen, in mid construction. You see a number of completed and partially built Hunter/Killers.

Immediately, however, your eyes are drawn to a massive shape, partly covered by a giant tarp, in the back of the factory, probably 50 yards away. It is enormous, easily 30 feet high. Enough of it is exposed that you have a good idea of what it is:
    Spoiler

Just ignore the full moon in the background and pretend its indoors and under a tarp, kthxbai

It appears to be under construction. There are a number of computer terminals strewn about the factory. There is a hiss, and Rose's cloak fails: she ripples back into view, the little blue bug attached to her uniform emitting a little smoke. Hopefully, if there is any surveillance in this room, its as nonfunctional as the cameras you saw earlier.

Moments after Rose's cloak fails, you hear a noise coming from the hall behind you: someone is approaching.

"...oh boy..." Hunter/killers are already bad enough, but whatever that massive thing under the tarp is Franklin knows its absolutely bad. Footsteps behind them make him swing around, and the timing for Rose's cloak couldn't be any worse.

"Hide." He whispers quickly to her. He creates a platform under his feet and rises up above the entrance they came through, positioning himself crouched just above it looking down. Hopefully it's just a sentry, someone who would take a look around and leave. If not, a well placed force blast to the back of the head might knock them out enough for Rose and Franklin to do what they need and get out before more show up.

Chenkov alters gravity in the area, actually reversing it. The 9 spiders attacking you, plus a few around the land island for good measure, are flung upward into the air and held there, where they struggle in vain. There myriad fellows below don't seem to mind; more spiders rush into the gap and begin climbing up the land island to you.

    Spoiler
    Show

Gravity Control 7 has an effective Strength of 35 and have a Heavy Load of 1.5 tons (3000 lbs), enough to give the Spiders, which weight about 300 lbs, a negative weight. The minimum Strength needed to lift 300 lbs as a Heavy Load is Strength 18, which is 3 5-Strength increments below Strength 35, which means the Spiders are held up 3 steps on the Progression Table starting from 5, or 50 ft (or 40 ft, if you'd prefer to keep your descriptor). You can keep them up so long as you sustain the power; they don't have much traction and can't do much.

Aegis's flying uppercut knocks back the CHS's monitor head; if it can see stars, it would see the Milky Way. Before the CHS can fall back from the blow, you reach out with your other hand and get the thing in a makeshift headlock. Squeezing, you constrict what passes for the thing's neck; the creature's skin is cold and metallic, like you'd expect, but also strangely more real than everything else in this hazy dream world.
    Spoiler

Your attack hits hard; your first blow Staggers and Stuns it (even though its a Construct, i'll be consistently wrong in the dream world, at least), and you succeed at your grapple check. Your headlock Bruises it.

Warning: System Failures Detected. Process 451 hang; Rebooting. Process 452 at 35%. Recommend full System Scan.

"Hey, guys," yells Jubilee over from the first land island. The crumpled, collapsed first CHS's body is sparking, and the bits and pieces of its battered hull are flying back into place like some reverse time-lapse photography. It is already rising unsteadily to its feet. "A little help here?"

"Time for some answers. X-League, focus on the spiders with the Computer Heads!"

Aegis then focuses, losing his in-dream flight. However, he can still jump like a NBA player on elephant steroids. He takes a running start and jumps down towards the man in the lab coat. As Aegis falls, he he brings a fist down onto the ground, unleashing a shockwave of concussive force in a wide area in front of him, ripping up the ground and blasting a large bunch of the spiders messing with the man.

Aegis punches the ground, sending ripples of force outward from his position. The rocky red ground cracks and splinters in some areas, and the majority of the spiders around Aegis and the mysterious man in the dirty labcoat are tossed left and right; some fall into the crevasses and are crushed, others are slammed into each other or the ground. Most do not get back up.

We're playing the lesser spiders fast and loose now; any AOE attack of sufficient damage - we'll say at least 8 damage or DC 18 for other abilities, like Chenkov's granvity control - will eliminate the threat of spider attacks for a round. There are so many that actually playing out the rolls would be slow and not interesting.

In response to your question, the man turns to you: what you see is surreally horrifying. Beneath his labcoat, the man's body was unclothed and completely featureless, almost like a mannequin's. But that wasn't the scary part.

There was a computer monitor imbedded in the man's chest: the exact same kind of monitor the CHS's had for a head. As you watch, you can see the monitor actually moving, and small metallic legs trying to poke their way out of the man's chest. His flesh was fluid and constantly re-engulfing the struggling limbs.

There was a small CHS inside the man, trying to get out. On the monitor, you can read:

The man turned to address a spider that had escaped Aegis's shockwave; his punch drove straight through the spider's body, leaving a gaping, sparking hole. The spider collapsed instantly.

"CEREBRO can't be stopped," came a tired female voice that seemed to emanate from both the expressionless man and the temple behind you. She sounded like the voice asking for help from before. "Not in this construct, at least... It will restart any processes you stop... and I am sorry I brought you here, it wasn't my intention. I was looking for my brother... I was looking for Franklin."

Maybe that's the one keepin' 'em all runnin'." It's largely a guess, but he can't just accept that the situation's impossible.

He'd be lying if he said that this conversation was easy to keep up with. However, he felt like he got the important parts down. Get the "root" spider into the temple, then Franklin's sister (???) wakes them all up and teleports them to wherever Superman and Osborn are.

"Listen darlin', we ain't gone let nothin' happen to you. We gone get you back to your brother."

He then turns towards his team-mates. "Alright X-League, you heard 'er! Doc Logan, see if you can track down that 'root process.' Everyone else be ready to jump that sucker when he finds it. We gotta get it into the temple." Logan has the best senses by far out of everyone present here, so he's the best for the job.

First things first bub, you don't give me orders, got it? Logan glares menacingly before saying, That's not a horrible plan by the way. On the other hand, are any of you any good with computers?

Sea of Spiders, End of Round... what round was it?

Moving so quickly his arm was a blur, Chenkov squeezes off a series of shots, two hailstorms of bullets aimed at the CHS on his land island and the one reassembling on Jubilee's. The bullets riddle Chenkov's CHS, and it spews that weird black oily fluid and sparks... it sags to the ground and stops moving. Its monitor display flickers briefly and then goes out.

The reassembling CHS loses several legs and takes severe damage to its abdomen by Chenkov's attack... but continues to reassemble even that damage. "Holy... I am sooo out of here," Jubilee says, and lifts off on her pixie wings to join Chenkov on his island for safety. Meanwhile, Vic continues his crazy joyride, driving donuts around the land island and forcing the spiders back.

Warning: System Failures Detected. Process 451 hang; Rebooting. Process 452 hang; Rebooting. Recommend full System Scan.

Lex Osborn's voice booms distantly from the sky, the lightning flashing with each syllable. "...hackers... infiltrating CEREBRO... do it..."

The man by Aegis rips another spider to shreds. "Oh, no..." comes the girl's frightened voice. "You have to hurry! The System Scan will force a disconnect, it will kill you!"

Sorry, industrious, forgot about your split autofire attack. The CHS's defense is actually 24, not 20 like the minion spiders, but you still hit anyway; the first CHS is KO'd by your autofire damage, and the reassembling CHS's reassembly is delayed. Jubilee double moves to get over to your position (her flight rank is pretty low), and Vic's Area Blast with his car takes down a few more spiders, though now his car is showing severe damage; -4 to Tough checks.

There is no threat of spider attack at your land island or over at Aegis's position this round.

Logan has yet to act this round.

    Rose, Franklin; Physical Plant

Suddenly, and without warning, the fluorescent lights in the physical plant shut down, casting everything in pitch blackness. The mercenary guards wheel about, completely taken by surprise, before the emergency generator kicks in and red lights kick in to provide suboptimal illumination.

    Franklin, Physical Plant

The appearance of four guards instead of just the single armed mercenary Franklin had been counting on makes this a bit more difficult. When they notice Rose's hiding place Franklin realizes he has to do something quickly. The sudden power outage gives him the sudden distraction he needs.

Franklin's body goes from being invisible to being covered in heavy plates of rock in an instant. The platform of force vanishes beneath his feet with the change, dropping him between the doorway and the four mercenaries. As he falls, Franklin raises two massive stone fists over his head, smashing them into the ground as he lands and rocking the entire area with a wave of force from the blow.

"Enough!" Lex Osborn screams through the PA. His normally urbane voice had cracked, revealing something base and twisted beneath it. "Twins! Rip the flesh from his bones!"

"With pleasure, dad," comes a woman's cruel voice from behind you, before you feel sharp claws tear at your costume. Wheeling about to face this new threat, you see not one, but two people, wearing variations of Lex Osborn's Goblin-class emerald power armor: the woman's armor was form-fitting, almost like a memory cloth sheath with a few spaced out emerald panels, outfitted with claws and who-knows-what-else; the other one, a man, had bulkier armor, and he was atop a flying hoverboard. Both had their opaque green forcefield masks off, and you recognized them immediately.

Mercy and Harry Osborn, the Twins. Lex's twisted children.

Harry sneered. "Remember us, Superman? Time to play."

Mercy took advantage of your Distracted state to floor you with a Sneak Attack. DC28 toughness save. You don't get a Hero Point even IF Lex Osborn comes out, since you are attacking him, not the other way around (complications would only activate if it were unexpected); you DO get a hero point cuz its 2 v 1 and also cuz I expect you've tangled with Mercy and Harry before. i'll let you decide on their history. Initiative order is Mercy, Superman, Harry. Your turn.
Mercy's claws just barely scratch Superman before he wheels around and backs away quickly. Mercy... Harry... what did Osborn do to you two?

Once, Harry Osborn was a young Peter Parker's best friend... then his father took charge and... changed him. Him and his dear sister. Superman suspected it was the same process that brought out the Green Goblin.

Superman clears his head as he scans the two. Whoever these two were now, they weren't the Harry and Mercy he once knew.

"Oh, great, looks like daddy let the Brainwashed and Crazy and Brainwashed and Crazier out to play.

    Let's play tag. You're it!"

Superman throws a light punch at Mercy before shooting up, up, and away.

Pressing his commlink, Superman whispers. "Hey, Dick, if you have any cool toys of the explodey or shootey kind on that plane, now would be a nice time to use it."

Combining Accurate Attack and Defensive Attack to lower Superman's Damage by 4 and raise his Defense by 4. His attack and damage are both +8 and his Defense and Toughness are both +12. He's now effectively a PL 12 on the defense and a PL 8 on the offense.

Superman attacks unarmed and then uses a move action to fly away. All points in his Super-Strength array are shifted to Flight, so he's flying at 1000 mph.

In the blood red light of emergency power, RockFranklin plummets to the floor and smashes the ground with his fists, proving that Superman and Aegis aren't the only ones who can make earthquakes. The ground rumbles, and the surprised guards are knocked onto their keisters. Rose grabs on to the machinery around her but is knocked down as well.

With your Density 10 and 9 Superstrength, your effective Strenght modifier for the Trip attack would be +19, way over PL limits, so I limited your trip modifier to 10, giving you a trip result of 27. The guards all fail their Reflex save and their Strength checks and are Prone; Rose's high Reflex save isn't enough to save her (she'd need a 19 to save), and she also fails her Dex check and is knocked prone; good thing she has Prone Fighting. Rose's turn, then the guards.

    Superman; High-Flying Chase

Superman's strike is fast, but Mercy is faster, whipping her head out of the way just in time. Immediately, her mask activates, an opaque green forcefield that encapsulates the lower half of her head, revealing only her red hair (its like every metahuman has red hair nowadays) and her eyes. Harry's also activates, completely covering his face.

Before they can react, Superman rockets upward. Cursing, Harry quickly floats over to his sister and grabs her outstretched arm, and she whips up and around onto his hoverboard. The Twins rocket upward in hot pursuit, matching your speed. Once Harry is in range, a panel on his hoverboard opens up and fires what seems like a bee nest of little missiles your way, which explode all around you.

    Spoiler
    Show

Harry switches his Flight array to Affect Others Flight 8, Limited to Mercy to pursue, and attacks Supes with an Autofire Blast 10. I rolled him a 27, hitting Superman and 5 over Superman's 22 Defense and bumping up the Toughness save to DC27 as well.

"Hey, Dick, if you have any cool toys of the explodey or shootey kind on that plane, now would be a nice time to use it."

"I read you, Superman. Keep your course, I'm gonna do a flyby. Check out how I pimped this plane..." Dick says over the comm.

As Superman continues flying, the Black Javelin pops out of stealth just ahead and roars right past you, heading towards the Twins who are in hot pursuit. Glancing over your shoulder, you see panels open on the jet's belly, dropping a cascade of flak right in the Twin's path. To dodge the sparking shards, Harry has to perform some tight maneuvering, creating some distance between you.
    Spoiler
    Show

Dick's flak is basically an Area Slow (Limited Paralyze) 10, Alternate Save (Reflex), Instant Duration (not lasting). Harry succeeds at the Reflex save, so the DC is only 15, but I still flub the second Reflex save (FREAKING 1's AGAIN), so he is Slowed for the next round: half movement speed, has only a move or standard action per round, and is -1 to attack, Defense, and Reflex.

The Black Javelin banks and makes a sharp turn, reengaging stealth before she can react

"You can't run forever, Superman!" Mercy yells, amplified by her suit. She leaps off her brother's hoverboard, and Superman can hear the distinctive whine of repulsers firing as Mercy activates her suit's own flight capabilities. She rockets away from from her brother, straight for Superman, her claws extended. She manages to sink her claws in and begins climbing onto your body like some sort of feral animal.

    Spoiler

Mercy only has Flight 6, but because of Harry's carrying her during his turn, she's in range. She uses Accurate Attack for the full amount and her attack roll results in 24, a hit. Damage Save is only 20, however. She then uses Improved Grab to start a grapple: roll a grapple check vs. 36. After that, your turn, followed by Harry and Dick and Tom.

Screwdrivers, bolts, little pieces of metal, wires, even two power drills all around Rose shudder, awakening to consciousness, before flinging themselves with extreme force at the surprised guards on the floor. The now animate objects of industry swarm about the guards like angry bees. Three succumb to many blows to their heads, the last manages to squirm away from the drills, but they swivel in the air to face their target and turn on, drilling menacingly.

The guard fumbles at this belt; it looks like he's going for his walkie talkie.

Forgot to mention the guards are minions: Defense 18 (flatfooted 12), Toughness +8, Fort +6, Ref +4, Will +4.

They are surprised still, so they are flatfooted, and also Prone. Normally, ranged attacks would suffer a -4 penalty to hit them, but Rose has Precise Shot 2, so she ignores this penalty.

Rose has Prone Fighting so she has no attack penalties of her own; she is using a full round action to "walk" or strafe her autofire blast 4 squares to hit 4 guards, so that results in a -4 penalty to all her attack rolls: 3 guards are hit, and her Autofire adds +1 to the save DC of one of them (for hitting 2 over his defense). Her homing blast will kick in next round and attempt to whack that last guard with the same attack bonus as this round.

The three guards all fail their Toughness saves of DC24 (x2) and DC25, and are KO'd. I think I roll as crappily as you guys do for saves, though not as crappily as SuperCracker.

Surprise round is over. Turn order is Franklin, Rose, Solo Guard. Looks like he's gonna call for help.

Mercy's claw doesn't even scratch you, but it seems like that wasn't her focus: moving like a snake, she crawls around your body, actually managing to get to your back, and securely hooks her heels onto your legs while snaking one arm under your armpit and the other around your neck, fastening her hands together in a Gable grip to achieve over-under control of your upper body. She squeezes hard, constricting your movement like a python. Whats more, you can hear the clamp of electromagnets in her hands, making her grip even tighter. She leans in from behind and screams into your ear, "You've humiliated my family for the last time!"

She's got your back: anyone who does jiujitsu knows that = bad. In game terms, she's got you Pinned. If you decide to try to Escape, I just rolled a grapple check for her of 32. Also note that she has Improved Pin; she also happens to have Improved Grapple and every other grappling feat, including 3 ranks of Grappling Specialization. Chick likes getting in close.
