Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Moshing is fine. I'm not a big fan, but I haven't been to a LOT of shows, so you know, haven't had a lot of chances.
The one show I really wanted to mosh at was the encore of Epica, they were playing Kingdom of Heaven and I was in Metal Heaven but then all the stupid, boring, lame, annoying, non-tr00 kvlt metal guys stopped the pit in a fashion unbecoming to Lord Dio.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I think moshing can be a great way to get more into the music. However, not every song or even every band is appropriate to mosh to. And for the love of Dio, don't purposely slam into people who are obviously just trying to watch the show.
Step 1: Get workers to make goods for you.
Step 2: Sell the goods for a higher amount than what you pay the workers.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

QFT.
When the blood pumps into my head at the rhythm of the drums, i cannot not moshing... while respecting the non-moshers.
Singing and moshing are one of the main reasons I go to live shows... watching the show comes togheter, but, for me, the two things cannot be divided.Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes. (W.Whitman)

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I've never understood people's desire to mosh, and honestly I think it detracts a lot from most concert experiences. If I go to a concert with a band I really I like, I do my best to focus on every part of the music as intensely as possible. This is fairly difficult if some dude keeps bumping into you. Most music listen to isn't very moshing-friendly, but it does still happen (eg. people moshing to Opeth and Grinderman ), and it's almost painful to see great music being taken over by sheer physicality. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive, but when it happens I feel cheated out of a great experience that I've really been looking forward to.
Also: People shouting at concerts during quiet parts...
(I was at a Mogwai show recently. Some drunken fool kept shouting during "Take Me Somewhere Nice" - rarely have I been so disgusted with humanity)

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Read and interview with Brann Dailor of Mastodon, he was saying a new album would like come out this year, and they would go back to a harder style.
Pretty enthused about that.

YESSSSS!
New Samael is out.
Got some tracks on their MySpace.
Not as harsh as "Above" but definitely harder than "Solar Soul".
Me like \m/

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Aww, really? I've watched those videos out of nostalgia, and Mangini's the most Portnoy-like, certainly, but Marco was awesome. Portnoy was the only member with any charisma whatsoever, and while Mangini's leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of them in that regard, Marco's a much more interesting drummer...

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Me, not so much. Crack the Skye was the only album of theirs I really enjoyed. I mean, those albums had individual songs I liked (I am currently splitting my lungs) but CtS is the only album I can listen to without skipping any tracks, and I think it was that they weren't as heavy that I enjoyed it as much as I do. Not that I don't enjoy heavy music, I just don't think they're suited to it as well. *shrug*

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
So I need to confirm with my friend, but I'm pretty sure I'm driving to San Antonio to see Sabaton and Accept. How are either of these bands? I'm really excited about Sabaton, mainly because I haven't see a "sing-a-long" power metal band live yet, and I feel that Sabaton is pretty much a great band for that. But how is Accept? I really haven't heard much of their stuff or anything.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Does anyone else like Star One? It's a side project by one of the guys from Ayeron, and I think it's pretty good. A lot like Ayeron itself, but then, it would be.

If you like Star One, I'd also suggest Mr. Lucassen's other other project (how does he sleep??), Guilt Machine. Just as good, but for some reason not as popular.
And of course, there's his other other other (!) project, [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW9UALTrtoo] Stream of Passion, with the Bovio sisters providing vocals. Not as much my cup of tea, but they've still done some pretty cool stuff.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
EVERYONE!
If you live on the East Coast of the US, or are willing to trael but haven't seen the Big 4 yet, get ready! They announced yesterday, they're playing YANKEE STADIUM!
Tickets go on sale, Friday, I am sooo stoked. I don't really have the budget to travel to see shows, but I live in NJ so Yankee Stadium is only about an hour away! Going to try to get tickets, hopefully the 50,000 seat stadium won't sell out in under an hour, but you never know the concerts this huge."I reject your reality, and subsitute my own" -Adam Savage

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Did somone say kvlt?
Spoiler
I'll just be over here fighting some trolls with mah broadsword........
In unrelated news, aside from the single "was it worth it" the new bodom album is fantastic, way more like hate crew deathroll than the last album was and some of the best solos they've done as well as way more keys than the last record. Picked up the new primordial album to, so i'll tell you guys what I think after I listen to it.Last edited by zeratul; 2011-05-01 at 04:45 PM.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
This was way back, but I can't stop listening to Static Tensions now. I'll look into their other albums, and they're playing near here in about a month. If their other material is this good I'll be sure to go.
What I'm trying to say, Moff Chumley, is that I need you to stop having the best taste in the playground.

Yay! Metal Thread needs more Sluge/Doom/Drone/Stoner metal.
I've heard they're a lot of fun live. They've yet to play 'round here at an all ages venue, though...Avatar by Kris on a Stick

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I know! Can you believe that these kids listen to Dream Theater and Star One?
But, teasing aside, Star One is just so painfully cheesy/gimmicky that I can listen to High Moon and Intergalactic Space Crusaders maybe once per year, each.
