Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Obligatory question: can he scry on himself?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
This is almost accurate except for the head exploding part, and he'd never actually get to the point where he's scrying himself looking at himself -- he'd probably pass out at some point during the 'connecting' phase as he tries to connect his spirit to itself, which is connecting his spirit to itself, which is... And so on. You know that sound you'd used to get when you try and use your phone while someone was using a dial-up internet connection? Take that sound, and plug it straight into your brain, activating all your senses along the way.
Come to that, that would be a great way for an enemy to defeat him -- distract him with a scry attempt, then move his hands so that they're touching while he's too distracted to notice. He'd be out for a while.Last edited by Deme; 2011-03-18 at 07:11 PM.

Creepy thoughts...
@MReav, I...that shouldn't have been as creepy as it is, but that sounds like a REALLY squicky insinuation to me. Maybe I just have a dirty mind...
I love it. You win at Snark and Everything.Insomniac posting is a STUPID idea. I should probably stop.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
You know, I've read several stories where the major limitation of Oracles is that they can't scry on themselves (See: Riftwar Saga as one example), and never really though about why except that there needed to be a limit. This is actually a pretty good explanation for why.
If my text is blue, I'm being sarcastic. But you already knew that, right?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
Would you believe, that reminded me of the complaints about Altered States? Since Luna is doing that, Dominic has to, as well. Wouldn't want her to overshadow the main character or anything.
So basically, that slay is what would happen if Mookie scripted whilst blind drunk, and, after he woke up, said "Well, this is my handwriting, and I must have had a good reason to write these scenes. I mean, I always do.", shrugging, and drawing and posting the results.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
The other explanation is that its an instant paradox. Its the reverse of the going back in time to change something paradox. You know, where the theory goes, if you went back in time to change something, then you wouldnt need to go back in time to change it since it never happened, therefore you wouldnt go back in time, therefore you didnt stop it, therefore the universe grinds to a halt, tearing itself apart from the massive g-forces of the sudden deceleration.
In this case, you scry yourself to see what will happen. The only problem is, by seeing whats going to happen, you will automatically change it in some way, its impossible to act identically to how you would have without the future knowledge. So that means that future DOESNT happen, which starts off an endless loop of possible futures altering as soon as you see them which makes the universe spin out of control tearing itself apart, this time due to centrifugal forces. :p

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
How about a magic system where the target can notice a scrying attempt and retaliate, so nobody spies on powerful magic users - including themselves?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
They did that in the belgariad series by david eddings. Scrying was a mental art, and a sorcerer could feel the mind searching the area for them and could either project a screen of the surrounding landscape to hide, or follow the path back to the person scrying and crush his mind like a bug.

Oh dear. Are we going to have to put an NSFW flag on this thread until he cleans up his ad links?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXIII: DeeganBallZ
mmcc is right, it seems. Either that, or the internet has finally made good on it's promise of yesteryear and suddenly a large group of very cold looking young ladies would like me to introduce them to my pet chicken.
And again, like most of the things that I find disappointing on DominicDeegan.com, I didn't notice it until one of the Playground Snarkers pointed it out. Thanks for that.~ CAUTION: May Contain Weasels ~

Damn it, Mookie. If you're gonna have boobies on your site, couldn't you at least make them normal-looking ones?
I'd screencap and link if it wasn't against the rules.
Um... PM me if you wanna see the ad?Spoiler
