Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
Was he AP Yi, AD Yi, or AP-conversion Yi?
(The last one builds 2-3 Dorans Rings before building AD-based damage)
I can see AD Yi having mana troubles to keep up with Urgot's sustained threat, especially since Urgot can start a tear on Proving grounds. The other two? Not as much.
Did he start Chalice? Cause 1v1 on proving grounds, especially against another caster like Karthus, Ziggs should be starting Chalice for the ridiculous MP5 sustain.Avatar by Assassin89

AD Yi, yes. And yes, Urgot started Tear. That didn't end well for Yi. =P

It was an AD Yi. I couldn't cut through him as needed to kill him, between his shield and and then his ult, I couldn't hit him hard enough, fast enough to kill him. And since we were on PG, Yi's heal wasn't worth much.

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
AP Conversion(or straight AP) would've probably worked better. Both would've given you the mana to cast Meditate more often early game, as well as use Alpha Strike better as a source of damage, rather than a blink.
-----------------------------------------------
As for Amumu v. Poppy, its a tough call, I think. Poppy has stronger burst, but her kit's durability options do jack against Amumu(his finish is basically DoT, which Poppy is weak against). I see build playing a *HUGE* factor, since both are bursty enough that if the other doesn't build some amount of tankiness, it turns into rocket tag.
In the end, I'm going to guess Poppy, cause she doesn't have skill shots, her ult target is obvious, and she can tower-dive with disgusting impunity. Basically, once she has the advantage, its going to be really hard to take it away from her, while Amumu is not nearly as strong at holding his advantage in a 1v1 proving grounds match.Avatar by Assassin89

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
Competent AP Amumu should 100-to-0 AD or AP Poppy in about one rotation and with significantly less items than AP Poppy would need to do the same, but that's just my suspicion. Assuming average players, Poppy could just as easily win.

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
The Harrowing is coming soon and in celebration I am buying the new Hecarim skin... despite having the other two I just can't not love this headless horseman.
Due to this decision, I must also play Hecarim more because of this and that leads me to wonder.. How does everyone play Leagues favorite Centaur-thing.
Where do you go? What Items do you tend to favor and why? Move progression or focus? Do you favor certain team compositions more?
I've toyed between several builds and playstyles..some goofy and some..interesting. I've done:
Bottom Kill lane instead of the standard ADC and support bot role before. Ghost + Heal + Go fast boots make Squishy ADC's have a bad day...especially when I combine it with a lovely stun or a burst of damage from my teammate.
Top Solo Tank/Fighter: Standard tanky fighter build... Frozen Mallet, Maw, Bloodthirster.. I add in a Phantom Dancer and Go fast boots... I Likd this build but not as a fighter.. I found that I could burst the enemy squishy hard enough and that the innate consistently let me through their front line. I changed the role from Fighter -> Assassin and Hit hard enough on Veigar or Ashe or Ezreal whilst not allowing them to ever escape. It was...interesting to say the least.
I haven't tried Jungle Hec yet... but Its because I don't enjoy focusing on his W early on (yes I know its super good). So Jungle Hec hasn't been an option for me yet because of that and no time to practice it out. I also haven't done AP Hecarim (would like a suggested Item build for this); apparently after you ult, hilarity ensues.

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
Hecarim is my go to Jungler. Actually he might be the only jungler I have played in over 2 months. He is just so much fun. Extremely fast early game with his E + ghost and turns into unstoppable death god lategame.
You don't have to focus on his W early game at all. 1-2 ranks is enough to sustain you trough Jungle.
I usually start boots + potions (recently moved to that from cloth + 5) Then build Ninja Tabi + Philo. Then either Sheen or Aegis + sheen if I am behind, then Glacial shroud and Hexdrinker, then Shurelia's. Finally Finish Frozen Heart, Trinity and Maw and get Guardian Angel if I didn't get Aegis."Best na ta challenge that Delusion" - Durkon in #674

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
I really enjoy jungle Hecarim, but our builds don't sound particularly similar.
I generally use 9/12/9 or 1/18/11 masteries with AD/Armor/MR/AD or AD/Armor/MR/MS runes and often build 2x gp10 into Frozen Heart. R>Q>W>E. Nothing really compares. The aura is ridiculously valuable in pretty much every situation, as is 99 armor. The mana pool is a pleasant bonus, but the CDR increases his Q output tremendously and shaves off a significant portion of his ult CD. His Q is really strong, by the way, to the point where the only damage I'd generally itemize on Hecarim is some combination of Hexdrinker, Last Whisper, and 40% CDR.
Shurelya's is situationally core depending on whether I'm the only initiation on our team. Otherwise, it can be delayed until lategame or replaced entirely (with, say, Aegis).
Randuin's is an important lategame option so that you can just ult people and pretend that you're Malphite. Pretending to be Malphite = really strong. A bit too expensive to finish particularly early, though.
Hexdrinker, Aegis, Mercury Treads, Spirit Visage, and Guardian Angel are your MR options. I'd build Hexdrinker in pretty much every game unless I needed both Aegis and Spirit Visage/GA for some reason, since its early stats are super valuable for a 1400 gold investment. All of the others are situational; Spirit Visage makes for a solid Randuins replacement against AP-heavy teams, as the CDR and increase W healing are not to be underestimated.
Last Whisper is just a really great source of DPS. Considering that in pretty much every reasonable lategame scenario the squishiest enemy is going to have at least 90 and likely somewhere in the vicinity of 110 or 120 armor, LW translates into a huge percentile damage boost to your Q. Its low price and high sustained damage output make it by far the most palatable damage item on an otherwise full-tank bruiser. Some people like Triforce, but the cost is painful and the investment makes Hecarim even more team-reliant than he already is.
Boots are obvious. Merc Treads, Ninja Tabi, or boots of mobility in every situation. Boots 5 are mostly useful in the early/midgame, but if you fall behind their value fades quickly. They're quite high-risk//high-reward. On the other hand, if you get ahead early Heart of Gold + Boots 5 + Oracle's makes for an absolutely terrifying pony.
Speaking of Oracles, buy it. Your W, E, and R make you very resilient and early Oracles apply tons of map pressure.Last edited by ex cathedra; 2012-10-20 at 04:36 AM.

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
So yeah, me and a few friends pop in for a casual game of League this afternoon. We see that an opposing player on the team has an Honorable Opponent ribbon and thought, cool. The guy picks Ezreal. All right, fine so far, I've beaten plenty of Ez's in lane before, and I'm still AD carry this game.
We go to the loading screen, and I see my opponent's name: Guardsman Bob.
At this point I freak out, because I'm a lowly 1400 elo player about to go against the guy I practically idolize. And to make a long story short, I get totally destroyed in lane, as expected. Actually, our entire team does. As it turns out, they explained to us later that this wasn't just a random Play with Bob team. This was Guardsman Bob's actual premade.
The nice thing was that all of our opponents were super-friendly, and Bob gave me many "<3" as is his style. It was truly an honor (although I have no clue how matchmaking screwed up that badly to match us with them).Check out my Let's Plays: Sengoku Gensokyo (Complete!), Touhoumon (Complete!), and Labyrinth of Touhou

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
What if
What if there was an item like Rabadon's Deathcap. Same cost. Same passive. Same numbers.
But instead of Ability Power it was Attack Damage.
I'm sorry, I'll go to bed before I stupid any harder.

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
Yeah, I suppose that's true, his NA account's normal elo is probably lower than his main account on the EU server. Still kind of dazed that we got matched together, though.
It was pretty clear that his mechanics far surpassed mine. Also, he was on his beloved Pulsefire Ezreal, one of his mains. I recall him saying on stream before that he doesn't play AD carries when doing "Play with Bob" because it's too easy to carry games and win when he's in that role. So yeah, there was no way I stood a chance.Last edited by Mirrinus; 2012-10-20 at 05:21 PM.

WW is a werewolf except for being stuck. Sort of.
Haven't looked at Regnar's fluff, but he looks like he might be the same.
Lulu forces other people to be weresquirrels, werecupcakes, or werecats. Does that count?Last edited by Qwertystop; 2012-10-20 at 05:51 PM.

Re: League of Legends XXXIX: Harrowing in the Playground
Shyv still deals a lot more magic damage than physical, at least with her initial R>E>W combo. Her W is magic damage that scales with AD but given how bruiserish she builds she seems to overall output more magic damage.
Nidalee AD is fine though, not much for late game damage though.
