Either that or con someone into doing it for you. Or at least the grunt work of it.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Re: getting others to do the job for you, wouldn't that be roughly akin to getting a hundred Genmonkeys using Gensoft Word in the hope that they might type out the completed Genworks of Genshakespeare by accident- or do you guys trust us a little more than that?

Re: Let's Play GenGame
What the hell is up with this "yo, let's not show the next page" of the forum lately...
(As far as roping other people into this goes... that's kinda what i did with AJ already for making the archive in the first place. )

Re: Let's Play GenGame
At the very least the issues are already named, so we don't have to worry about trying to name 200 comics while we're leafing through them. I'm sure you could find loyal readers to help index the comics for you if you hand them the tools and tell them what to do. It worked with the wiki, right? You just put all the tools out there and then I started changing things.
At the same time that this is all a lot of work that we are demanding be done, we acknowledge that you, as the writers, are already doing a lot of work. Plus, you're the writers, you get leeway. Making us do the administrative paperwork is kinda like our tool to be able to view the comic with such heightened ease.
...I might be able to index the comics. I'm not sure I could get through all of them before school starts, but I should at least be able to make some headway to pave the road for whoever picks up the task afterwords. Which, given the availability most of the people who work on the Genverse have, might also be me after I get settled into college routine. Or we could just wait for Joe to do it, I can't say I care. Ok, maybe I care a little, but mostly just so I can have bragging rights for having done the work."Actually I don't know how to write a post, I just write essays and put them on forums"

Re: Let's Play GenGame
It's some sort of bug in the forum software that happens when there's only one post on the new page. As far as I know, no one knows anything that can be done about it, other than hitting, "Reply."
Yeah, I'd totally be up for other people doing the hard work for me. I'll whip up some sort of organization for the thing a little later.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Alright, if people want to help with making a proper index for the website, here's the format we've decided on for each reference:
<span style="color: [“blue” if it’s a BH command, “seagreen” if it’s MG, and “cyan” if it’s SM, black otherwise];"><p style="text-align: left;">[strip number (counting the number of posts)]> <strong><a title="[Title of the page, minus the “>”]" href="?p=[reference number of the page (the numbers at the end of the page’s URL)]">[title of the page, minus the “>”]</a></strong></p></span>
So an example would be:
<span style="color: blue;"><p style="text-align: left;">4> <strong><a title="Gender: Female Class: Spy" href="?p=217">Gender: Female Class: Spy</a></strong></p></span>
And, when posted, that should show up as:
Note that the ==>’s should be written “==>” so as not to mess up the html.
They should be numbered with the lower numbers on the top, so:
1> Chapter 1: Its a Generic World After All
2> /Join Game
3> Cheat to unlock the restricted classes
and so on.
This will probably go down easier if more people work on it, so doing this all as a wiki page might be prudent. It can just be deleted when we’re done.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Awesome. I don't actually have time to work on it today, but I'll go set up a wiki page called "Comic Index" to store the data on. I put the page up in the top bar so people can get at it easily.
Personally, I think we might want to consider other colors for when the Enemy Team does commands (JH and KB specifically, and that pink mechanomancer/whatever chick). But no rush, for the most part they don't do much, so even retrofitting that would be minimal effort.Last edited by Slartibartfast; 2011-09-09 at 02:42 PM.

It would be appropriate, I think.
After all, GenGame originated here. May as well advertise it to those who haven't seen it yet.Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Apologies for double post, but I just saw one of the ads for Gengame. Looks sweet in the bottom banner. A little familiar, maybe...

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Heh, may as well have been. We were doing server-wide maintenance, which included a complete reformat/OS-change of the server, moving databases and so on. I'm currently in the process of final cleanup and we should be back in half an hour tops.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Yeah, it's one of the best. I'd say the best, and will, since the only one that I'd say was competing for that title is ended now (Digger was awesome, too).
So, Gengame IS. THE. BEST.
Now, excuse me, I have to [Go order some Gencola], and then drink some Gencola.Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Domochevsky, I have finally written down the basics for the game. It is right here. I probably missed a lot of things (as it took me three days to write and I lost my train of thought a few times), but that's what editing is for.

That looks pretty cool, burntsquirrel.
I'll be following.
Don't forget the most important part of any Genproduct, though: [frequent references to Gencola]. And, of course, [Gencola].Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!

Re: Let's Play GenGame
One thing that's been bothering me is whether the first "G" in GenGame is pronounced like the "G" in "General" or like the "G" in "Guess"?

Re: Let's Play GenGame
think it would be the General G. Since the "Gen" comes from the word "Generic"

Re: Let's Play GenGame
I'd say the system BurntSquirrel made up is passable, but it doesn't go hardcore. I want a system that goes all the way. Just me being greedy I guess. Perhaps I'll DM a game of GenGame someday. Or who knows? I know how to program, and I'm surrounded by Video Game Design majors. I might actually MAKE GenGame! Oh, yeah, I should prolly give credit to Domo and the boards if I do though. I guess. If I have to.
