Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
I know exactly how you feel. I was a complete idiot myself in 2008, but I think I've come a long way since then. Hell, I think GitP might have had something to do with that. This place has some of the best people I've seen anywhere on the internet, and I've learned a lot in my four years of on-and-off posting here.

No. No children.
Why were you on the pavement?
I lol'd.
I think we all go through it after some time, <hugs> we love you too.
But you brought it up this time...
I heartily agree.

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
No kids? Shame, I'm sure they'd be adorable.
As for the pavement, I arrived at a Dutch train station around midnight. I wanted to stick around for my train which arrived at 5:05 AM, but the security guard informed me that I had to stay outside until 4:30 when the station would open up again. So, I found myself a spot on the pavement, wrapped myself up in my sleeping bag, used my backpack for a pillow, and took a nap.Avatar by Serpentine.

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
The pavement signifies the cold, hard surface which is the reality of life. The fact that he was napping on it signifies that most people try to dream away the reality. The fact that he caught a cold from doing so signifies that by dreaming away the harsh realities of life, we bring about our own destruction.
Only by awakening ourselves to the realities of life can we truly avoid our own destruction, or in this case, catching a cold.

Man, I wish I had as much depth as Tragic_Comedian's analysis. I don't think I could ever make my brief stint of pavement napping that impressive.

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
My mother, dear Playgrounders, has just promised to buy me much new clothing if I can get down below a certain weight before I go back uni.
This is cool. There are clothes I actually covet in her catalogue and elsewhere.
More importantly, I also get the wonderful option to Go Through Little Sister's Clothes And Pick Out Whatever You Want. She has some classy clothes.
I also get to do it with mum's proper vintage stuff what she still hung onto for some reason. Hello thirty-five year old low-slung Levi jeans and that cheesecloth newspaper print t-shirt!
As it is I already pinched Older Little Brother's old school blazer and am customising the badge out of it. Say hello burgundy red velvet.
And oh my don't I sound like a girl. I have all these weird girly ideas and whims floating through my head.
It's scary being a girl-type person.
Then again, I did just steal Older Little Brother's 'Beer is for life, not just for Christmas' t-shirt. It's too big for me, and yet somehow, I've been told I rock it, and still look pretty; even as my hair is eighty percent out of its pony tail and fading fast.
Obviously they're all deluded, and most likely biased.
All this misaimed flattery is going to give me a confidence boost. Something I genuinely need as, despite my 'outgoing confidence', it's a façade. I have crippling shyness and have serious issues with meeting new people in person.
This flattery, misaimed or otherwise is going to be useful.
So go me?
I suppose.
Hnnmmm, nice to see that my ability to ramble endlessly on meaningless tangents that no one will ever pick up on is still going as strongly as ever.

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
Achievement unlocked: Getting sigged
ION:
Anecdote from yesterday: On Gröna Lund, one of the rollercoasters, named Insane, which also happens to be the largest zac-spin roallercoaster in the world (there are only three of them, so that's not the most impressive of achievements). What's special about them is that they never turn sideways (i.e. they're built on the height rather than on the width) and that the seats sit on an axis on the side of the wagon rather than on top of it, which allows the seats to spin freely.
This type of design literally makes every ride unique, as the weight and position of the individual passengers influence the spinning. This is fun, and you can find yourself suddenly hanging upside down just as the track turns up again after a downward slope, and the momentum presses all your blood down into your head. Or, as in one case I was able to wittness, you can end your whole ride upside down.
Because the whole ride is so unpredictable, photos aren't taken until the very end of the ride. Here, a mechanism stops the swinging seat in an upright position just before it enters the station again. Or, more specifically, it stops the seats in an upright position unless the seats have already stopped upside down, which was exactly what happened for the (un?)fortunate riders two wagons after me and my brother. It even showed on the picture.
They were later turned back again, possibly thanks to the operating crew, but I must say that it's these unpredicted events that provides the gold lining on the real world as I percieve it. That and just when people invite me to stuff. I'm truly starved of invitations...Last edited by Teddy; 2011-08-17 at 02:51 PM. Reason: Rambling away tends to leave you ninja'd...

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
But...the're FUN! I used to be scared of almost everything, but that was just because I had no experience on roller coasters. Except for a little ride that barely went over 30 miles a hour and about 20 feet up. Amazing that Six Flags moved the whole thing. Old wooden rides from amusement parks are awesome.
