Found a 1934 edition of Jekyll & Hyde yesterday. Near-perfect condition.
Love it when stuff like this happens.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Yup But kinda not on purpose. I mean I love to browse second hand bookstores and hole-in-the-wall book exchanges and the occasional auction, but I don't go purposefully hunting for a first edition published The Importance of Being Ernest or anything.
It's just occasionally you get something really cool, and that feels awesomeAwesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
Well, I'm off to bed, and tomorrow, I'm off to Proston, where my brother and his wife live to attend a party for her grandma's birthday.
Which means, I'll be out in the middle of nowhere after a four hour drive and I won't be back until either Sunday or Monday.
I'll see if I can upload some pictures of the scenery.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
I think I said something about time and commitment, and I think the flight back and forth would eat cost me any gain in terms of time and money...
Also, I have standards. Not to make assumptions about a system I know nothing about, it's just that I trust our system more. I'd rather commit myself and fail because I'm not ready than slack and succeed just to end up as a fine red spatter on some random mountain side half a week later.
I would prefer not having to make a stopover on Greenland. Also, a plane that I won't have to push to the limit. Also I'm an engineer, a plane without excessive amounts of gadgets is a bad plane. Like a coffee cooker (I'll have to develope some kind of brewing procedure for a high-caffeine tea as well, seeing as I don't like the taste of coffee), autopilot, satellite internet, 230V power outlets for the standard european plug, refrigerator, central computer, missile countermeassures...
Yeah, I suppose I could do that to hone Lindberg's Swedish ancestry...Last edited by Teddy; 2012-09-21 at 10:41 AM.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
So today, I heard that this was a popular joke in Europe:
SpoilerIf someone knows two languages, they're bilingual. If someone knows three languages, they're trilingual. So what do you call someone who only knows one language? American.
... It hurts because it's true.

There's nothing wrong with speaking only one language. It's not like it's a character flaw or anything, guys. Cheer up.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
I can speak English.
I can string together a couple of awkward sentences of bad German.
I can manage a few disjointed phrases in French.
I know a smattering of Spanish, Italian and Japanese words.

Re: Mercenary Pen's Meticulously Planned Machine of Prose Random Banter #182
The thing is, due to the British Empire and later America, English has become the lingua franca of the world. It's the language of politics and science. It makes sense for everyone to learn English, because English is so important. But for those of us who have English as our first language, there isn't another language that's as universally valuable to learn - we already know the lingua franca.
