It occurs to me that it is three days before christmas. And yet I've been spreading a bad mood around, having brought up old grudges of mine only a few hours ago. I should apologize to the citizens of ponythread for starting this mess. Even to Soras. Though I still believe his views to be horrible and hypocritical, I shouldn't have been so needlessly agressive about my dislike of him.

So I'll say sorry. I'm sorry that I needlessly brought up some old grudge I have. And because I'm not someone who thinks that apologising is enough, have something seasonal to go along with it.

Well, I wasn't' disappointed but that is only because I was not expecting anything good to come out of this episode.

So the things I liked:
Villain was insane. Not Discord love-chaos insane but full on laughing-madly-wild-look-in-the-eyes insane.
Spike had a major role.

But other than that all there was, to me at least, was the similar garbage one would find in an action hero comic book. But, that is just my opinion. I never really liked those kinds of stories so I didn't really like this episode.

Not watched pony yet... But felt I had to relate this, which occurred as our party was wrapping up.

My mate's phone had quietly auto-updated itself this morning and apparently installed - we found later - some sort of "hangout" app.

The first he realised of it was when it pinged and he had a message from, well, not to put too fine a point on it a pair of boobs (i.e. a shot of someone's cleveage), asking him if he wanted to meet up.

This seemed a bit strange but mildly amusing, so he responed with a query as to who the heck she was. She said she was looking for some fun or something... And then sent a picture of herself from chin down mostly naked asking him if he wanted to see more.

So that got awkward fast.

He turned his internet off immediately and went searching for where it had come from and found and deleted said app. He was a bit unsettled, and I don't blame him... You have got to be a bit worried about the sort of person that sends naked pictures of themselves to a total stranger. (I mean, he could have been a serial killer or rapist or something. Basic internet safetly and all that.) It even occurred to me we had no idea how old she was, which added a rather nasty level of squick to the whole affair.

(And given the lack of information, you don't know what would be at the other end, given my mate knows of one of his associates when he was in Russia got hit on by a girl, who bought him a beer, which was drugged and when he woke up in his apartment, they'd stripped it bare...)

Weird and more than a little creepy, not to mention a big underlining for basic internet safety practises...

Where to begin?

Spike episode!

Ponies have even more superpowers!

(And notice that enhanced strength - as opposed to the whole Flutterhulk upgrade - was not, by itself a superpower... Why? 'Cos ponies already have super-strength...)

Spike's seventh wheel status addressed nicely. also, that bit with swinging in on the chain and kicking that dude in the face was just fraking EPIC! I outright cheered!

The Manic is a great villain! You can tell she really enjoys her work - so jolly and cheerful, even in the face defeat! Or insanity. Whichever! A+ on manical laughter!

(And a B on plan. Repeat dosing the Power Ponies on a timer was smart - more than a lot of villains would do, as was keeping them in a cage in plain view.

Lose a point though for under estimating the enemy, though...!)

Wonderful Fluttershy moment at the end there. Especiall since one of the early fandom videos was a PMV with Earth's Mightiest Heroes with Fluttershy and the Hulk... It just fits, doesn't it?)

Pinkie was great. As usual!

I found it hilarious that Rarity most rapidly seemed to get the hang of her powers and seemed to be most effective... And notice how Rares was the first to leap to Spike's defence even before Twilight when his self-doubt was clawing at him?

Epic fight sequence!

It is me, or are we getting a higher proportion of those this season? Which is EXCELLENT!

Great episode, probably my favourite of the new season so far!




Also, on a personal note I really enjoyed this as the fic That Will Probably Never Be Written has a few elements in common with this episode and seeing something even distantly similiar in places was wonderful.



Now to go back through the thread and find everypony else hated it...!

Having the Power Ponies power sets be more specific to the Mane Six would have not only been deterimental to the parody itself, but far too neat. The universe is many things, but neat is not among them. So having them not too related to their talents was much better.

Dash knows she's fast, but she's also not remotely stupid. She can see Pinkie moving faster than she can normally and she knows it's super-ultra-powers and therefore can reasonably expect that her own consumate abilities are going feeling outdone by Superman - because she knows she's reached her status without (additional) super-powers. Why be jealous?

Also, that and the ability to throw lightning bolts which is a ludicrously awesome super-ultra-power probably took what little edge there was off...

The repeated dosing was quite savvy on her part.
Underestimating Spike could be attributed to what Twilight said to him:

Spike: "Humdrum is just the useless sidekick."
Twi: "Well then it's a good thing you're not Humdrum."


In other words, Mane-iac possibly didn't know Spike's competency. It doesn't seem like she knew they were from outside the comic book (but that's hard to tell since she's completely nuckin bucks).

On rethinking this, I find it strange that Spike and the mane six got just teleported out of that comic directly after they had defeated Mane-iac. From what I understand, they were supposed to play out the ending of the comic, but the whole thing just ended without a real resolution. Is it like in the golden age, where the ending is handled in two panels? Did the ending appear inside the comicbook, but we just didn't see that?

The in-universe logic of this confuses me.

Also, I feel very guilty for laughing at this.

Even the police just showing up for a moment and going 'thx for catching Mane-iac, kthxby' would have done it for me. As it is it seems incredibly weird to me that a comic without any resolution would sell. Heck, I've seen NES games with more conclusion than that.

Besides, if it is the former then that raises the question what exactly happened to the Power Ponies of that universe while the Mane Six were doing their thing.

You can see Twilight's horn behind her hair, and just below the light-purple in her tail and above the light-pink in her mane. The base of her horn is just to the right of the light-purple in her mane.

Trixie's horn is obviously buried into the ground. Hence, the impact, and the face.
