News 1: Sólstafir's Ótta is an immediate contender for album of the year.

News 2: Einherjer's new EP is exceedingly silly and I'm not sure how I feel about that. It feels like Odin Owns Ye All all over again.

News 3: Symphony X is busy working on new material. Did I mention that yet? Excitation levels rising.

News 4: Been listening to some Vinterbris. Norwegian melodic black metal. Gives a sort-of a Vreid vibe, which is never a bad thing.

I definitely dug it, like y'all said, it's pretty par for the course but it was definitely better than the last record. Probably not top 10 of the year but definitely worth a few spins

Funny you mention them, I'm checking them out a bit more lately and I seem to dig it. It's not quite as corny as hammerfall and brings in some much needed grit.

Sabaton's good, yeah. Somehow they stay juuust on the right side of cheesy, while still delivering killer tunes.

Come to think of it, Sabaton fits completely into 40K. It's basically just war, after all. And metal.


Powerwolf can be the Ecclesiarchy.

Dude...they are the ULTIMATE festival band, silly, fun, and great choruses. What's not to love?
I especially like how their keyboardist runs out from behind the keys and cheers the crowd on.

Korpiklaani is ultimate festival band. (atleast 80% of the time, the other 20% of the times I've seen it was ''...what are you doing? uhh, ok..this is decent but euh, time for more beer!')

IMO, a great part of their fame, is due to their choice of that setting / background.

Yeah, the general consensus seems to be that that's the best song off the record. It certainly has quite a chorus. FIRE UP THE CHAINSAW, HACK THEIR ****ING HEADS OFF. Good fun.

In other news, I'm making it a priority to make it to the Maryland Deathfest in 2015. I took one look at the line up they're promising-- Devourment, Internal Bleeding, Mortal Decay, Origin, Skinless, Artificial Brain, Bloodbath, Aura Noir, Cianide, Funebrarum, Master, Obituary, Suffocation, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Flagitious Idiosyncrasy, Napalm Death, Splatterhouse, Morpheus Descends, Sodom, Dragged Into Sunlight, Anaal Nathrakh, Demilich, Disembowe-- I mean Inverloch, Skepticism, Portal, and Melt Banana, among others-- and decided somehow, no matter what it takes, I'm gonna be there.

New band discovery!

Saor, a pagan black metal band from Scotland. Similar to Wodensthrone or Winterfylleth, with a heavy Drudkh vibe to the melodies. Folky instruments unavoidable, but they're pretty unobtrusive actually.

Nothing exceptional, but I always like hearing this type of metal done competently.
