Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
Sepia is a bit tricky to do in InkScape though, first you need to make the comic and then import the exported file into another art program that does support sepia, and then you get blurring if you try to reimport it into another InkScape file.

Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
I personally prefer the black and white. Sepia's harder on the eyes. Besides, it's not like we can't tell that it's a flashback. :P

Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
I think that sepia fog wouldn't look as dramatic/cool as black and white fog...

Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
i have a question...how can you use the art style, and base your comic in the DnD universe without getting the boot from this site, as well as a nasty lawsuit? Or is Rich Burlew cool with you doing a similar comic?
(I'm wondering cuz i was thinking of doing my own...)

Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
Well, Rich Burlew doesn't actually have this style copyrighted. Considering he didn't actually invent stick figures, he can't copyright it. Anyway, I don't really see the problem with making a webcomic that is in ways similar to his own, aslong as we don't use any of his characters of locations.

Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
^ ninja'd by the artist man himself!
There are over a dozen webcomics on this sight, most of them done in OotS style, and Rich is aware of them. As long as you don't use his characters the art style is free game really, so there's absolutely nothing to stop you making your own comic and posting it here, we have plenty already!Last edited by banjo1985; 2008-03-27 at 08:59 AM.

Re: Failing Saves Thread 2 - The Melee of Madness
There is a minor caveat on the use of Rich's characters... I believe you can have an OOTS character make a cameo appearance, but not have them as part of your main storyline.
Belkar appears in Failing Saves on a wanted poster, and Elan has a brief appearance in Whitefeather (I think).
Rich mentioned in another thread that he was going to post some sort of ruling on this type of artwork on this site, but as far as I understand he's not going to shut fancomics down. Thanks to Ceika (X2), Yeril, Holammer and Dr. Bath for the Avatars!

Something's wrong in the world when a great old comic like FS comes out less often than Natural One. Keep it up!

Salmon's been busy with school, but he and Undertaker have reassured us that they are still working on comics. We just have to be patient.
