Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread- Part VI
I think 1 of 3 things would occur.
1) You were supposed to go back in time to alter an event that't supposed to happen so it does happen
2) A time paradox occurs, and folds over on itself
SpoilerExample: Let's say you want to go back in time to kill your grandmother so you can't exist. Hypothetically of course. You successfully go back in time, and successfully kill your grandmother many years before your father is born. (this is your biological father for argumental purposes). Because you can't exist many decades before you born, it's impossible for you to go back in time to kill your grandmother. Because it's impossible for you to kill your grandmother, nothing is stopping your coming into existence. As a result, the paradox folds over on itself, resulting in absolutely nothing happening
3) what you said.Dark Souls Remake in a Nutshell

Blue device thing prevents time traveling to a different era, not teleportation somewhere else.
Although, one could argue that when one teleports, they travel through time as well as space. If you want a OotS style Touhou avatar, send me a request.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread- Part VI
I wonder if this qualifys for the plot teleporter..
[Science]A teleporter wouldn't actually break down your atoms and then shoot those same atoms thousands of miles through the air; even if it were possible, there'd be no reason to do it. It would instead just grab Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms from out of the air and assemble you out of those (one Hydrogen atom is the same as another, after all).
Teleporters would work more like fax machines than mail. It transmits a signal and the machine on the other end spits out a copy. Only instead of a copy of a letter, it's a copy of a person, right down to all their thoughts and memories and here the original is destroyed.
Are you grasping the weirdness of this? The original is destroyed. That means when you step into a teleporter, you die. But, the rest of the world won't know you died, because a copy of you will step out of the other end of the machine. It won't be you, though, it'll be another you that happens to share your memories. To the outside observer the thing will always work fine, and the thing that steps out of the receiving end will think it worked fine. The one person who knows it didn't worked fine, can't tell anyone because they ****ing died via total atomization the moment they stepped into the machine. [/Science]

The FFF archive gets updated every once in a while, usually less than a month. It does not include Randome Kills or comics from other plots. It is still in use.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread- Part VI
Me and Lying have had a long descussion about this on Remember Forum.
Yes, I believe that either 1 is true, it was supposed to happen, history was layed out for you to go back in time.
But 2 and 3 are both kinda what I said, you creat another univers where you did go back in time, kill your grandmother and you were never born, but the one where you came from still exists as if you didn't and nothing changes.

Mostly OT
Time travel is a tricky subject. My favorite scheme is the full on self-creating paradox time travel stories. These are the ones where a time travel paradox doesn't destroy the universe, or not happen, or split multiple universes, but rather, is completely paradoxial in relation to linear time, but somehow works out.
This is kinda hard to explain, so I'll paraphrase the plot of a miniseris I saw recently. (I'll try to keep it generic enough to not give specific spoilers.)
An unstoppable doomsday device is sent back in time in hopes that the people of the past can stop it. The people of the future can't stop it, because things have changed over the years. The people of the present manage to stop the doomsday device. However, some nefarious MiBs keep the device in a supposedly safe storage location, which is later revealed to have been the source of the doomsday device in the future.
It doesn't make any sense. Where did the DD come from? Nowhere? The future? The present? Actually, I think it was created by Plot Goblins...
I've just got to catch up on the plot and get my next comic done and I'll be in the thick of things ... I hope ... (so many vectors, so little time)Last edited by levi; 2008-06-24 at 07:56 AM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread- Part VI
Well, the plot teleporter works differently then time travel.
If I were to change anythin in the past using the plot teleporter to bring to a comic in the past, whether or not I change anything is entirly up to the writer of the story. If one were to change the past using plot teleportation, they can only do so by so little that it dosen't even make a differnce, only because that wouldn't mean the writer would have to redo the ENTIRE ARCHIVE again.AVATAR BATTLE ROYALE!

I believe that changing the past to effect the future is simply impossible.
