Her magic came from the waters, from Bridgid and Sulis, calm, hidden, sweet. Yet, on this day, of all days, it would bring her love (a different kind of trouble). In fact, love in three places. The Sands of Time

We sat on ornate cushions, decorated with swirls of red and gold, in the sand, next to a fire that licked at the night sky through the chill. The Arab dinner had been served, and we had eaten. Tents were set up in a broken perimeter around us, in this traditional Arab desert camp, but what was incredible about the location was the lack of light. Out here in the desert, it was pitch black aside from the fire, and so we watched infinity unfold itself into the sky above is.

Stars and galaxies, which had been for billions of years, and would be for billions more.

As the desert night chilled us, we moved our cushions closer to the fire, and leaned against each other. Sitting here, in between two massive dunes, you could feel the overwhelming presence of the sand which reached out across space and time, as far as the eye could see in any direction. It too, had been here for millenia, and would remain for millenia.

Dunes function similarily to waves in water, only taking decades to move a miniscule amount, or grow at all.

Philosophic conversation entailed. We sat in the middle of a sea of sand. We were born from it. We lived in it. We died, and turned to the same dust. All before a dune would move more than a few meters. The ether above would remain nearly identical, even after we were gone, and the next generation, too.

A wind carried with it the sand of time, which, while hugging the ground, turned into an inverted rip curl. I turned my head so as to avoid getting sand in my eye, and smelled only Gem Flower's hair. One could only expect such a beautiful culture to arise in Arabia. The desert and the heavens, in all their infinite beauty, is like having your deity all around you. Omniscient. Omnipresent. Everlasting. Ever powerful.

With all the hourglass-sand around counting down the years we had left, I couldn't help but wonder why I even bothered with love. Then I remembered why. As I leaned back, my hand felt something hard, and sharp in the sand. I picked it up, shook the sand off, and found it to be a desert rose. Why would a person give a normal rose? They wilt and die within a few short days. The desert doesn't even notice them. A desert rose lasts forever.

I gave it to Gem, hoping she'd recognize what it was. The way she blushed indicated she probably did. The way we kissed indicated we realized why we bother loving.

This is a desert rose, FYI. It's a crystal/mineral thingy.

And to his adoring eyes Dihan seemed the same. Eyes bright with excitement and reflecting back the rainbowed lights that coloured the air. Squeaking with his eagerness Dihan pulled Calamity into the queue for their first ride.

Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go
There's no stopping me
They had been laughing and giggling like there was no tomorrow; especially on the rollercoaster (Dihan had clutched at him tightly for the whole ride). And as they were twirled and spun in impossibly graceful arcs along the metal tracks Calamity shouted with delight, particularly during the loop - de - loop when Dihan pulled into into what he wished to call a lovers' embrace.
I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man of you
I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars
On a collision course

Despite the naturally red tone his skin had Calamity felt himself blushing a virant scarlet and heat rushed to his face when Dihan pulled him into line for the Tunnel of Love. Slightly out of embarassment - they were among the youngest there as well as standing out for other reasons (tiefling stood out way too much for his personal taste) - but mainly out of anticipation. Everyone knew there was only one reason to go into that tunnel and he had been so desparate to give his guy a huge kiss right on the mouth; but he'd always hesitated because of Dihan. Oh, he'd definitely reciprocate, but would it be too soon for him?
As they drew loser to the front of the line his tension mounted. And he was startled to realise that he was shaking imperceptibly out of nerves. After the ticket seller gave them a quizzical look, but gave them a boat anyway. Finally. They sat in companionable silence listening to the sappy music for all of twenty seconds before Dihan made the first move.
They held hands.
His pulse began to race.
They moved closer and closer together.
A scant few inches separated them.
And then they kissed.
Don't stop me now I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time
Just give me a call
All Calamity could think of was how great a kisser Dihan was. He thought to himself that if they kissed like this every time they went on a date then Dihan had better call him every day. Damn, he was a great kisser.
