Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
His Stigness will be a myth forever. For he is like unto the God of Gods of Cars. E'en mighty Zeus, highest of all Olympians, bows before The Stig.
I actually think that The Stig is one of the best kept secrets of TV at the moment; so many people are desparate to find out who he is.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
Creative place names:
Akkan (actually a changed spelling of Acre/Akka/whatever it's called now)
Pardon (Paris + London - also an odd name as it's a word)
Arenka (just syllables)
Take names of places from a foreign language and just change a letter or two. Welsh is very good for this. Take any word from a foreign language and add/change letters.
Make anagrams of real place names.
Take fictional places, two minimum, nd shove them together. See what happens.
Or just actual place names that noone'd believe. Examples:
Hell, Cornwall actually exists. There's a place in Kent called Thong . . .

Creative names : Be a linguist. Take words from obscure languages that around 20 people on the world speak. Make that the name.
So good.... Such a great inside joke because we know of eachother that we speak it...
Person 1 : Hey, that's a great story, I just love how the city of Rardabul was put toghetter.
Person 2(knows the language, and that the writer knows it too) : Rardabul. Heheh, I love it to... Heheh....

Oh Thong is nothing. Around here we've taken Thong one stage further with Upperthong and Netherthong.
I now have a blog. Have a look if you wish. It contains those naughty profanities that you won't find here. If you like what you read send me a PM, or if you don't like it. I'd like to know how many people here read it.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
Oh Gods below, sideways and Behing You, Dead Set is amazing. It's a proper style zombie apocalypse with the screaming zombie problems; guns and everything.
This will be fun.
Shame I missed the first episode, but I can rewatch it on the internets.
Shame about Little Sister; being all Fridge Logicky at the moment. "Why're there zombies?"
"It doesn't matter. It's a zombie apocalypse! It matters not."
"It does to me."
"It's zombies. Nothing matters apart from surviving."
"But - "
"Zombies!"
It doesn't even occur to her to say, "But zombies aren't real." She accepts them, but wants to know why. I've already explained to her about the Book and how the show kind - of goes by the book.
But then she says, in response to a reference I made, "Who's Brian Blessed?" And I want to hurt her. She genuinely has no idea. None at all.
Then I said, "You've seen Blackadder I. Right?"
"I thnk I have." I was the one to introduce her to it, and she doesn't remember it.
She lost so many geek points then.

Man, I loved Dead Set. Loved it. But, hey, j'agree with the Times reviewer, poor Charlie Brooker has had to pad it out so much to fulfill his contract. Me was sad.
Also, it's snowing. Snowing. The sky, a great hub of cloud, is precipitating individual flakes of ice! Ice! From the sky! Burn the witches! Help! HALP! YAAAY!
Also, I recall an anecdote. "You know you're an adult when you see snow, and think "Whoa, my commute's screwed", rather than "Yaay! SNOW""
Also, Masato, loved that linky. Also, you has a YouTube account. Anyone else have one?

SEE! The End is Nigh! The Coldocalypse is upon us! It is snowing in London in October! And it is hailing and sticking in Cornwall.
At this rate we'll actually have a white Christmas for Christmas. And then the world will explode.
I doubt I'll have hate snow though; never seen it really so it'll always be a joy. Besides, I want a snowball fight.

Make sures they dinnae degenerate into ice and mudball fights. God, my face ached that day. Also, never play "There's a king caterpillar in your coat hood, and it's going for your neck, Kaela!". NEVER. Nasty, nasty cousins. No like!
Also, yes. End is nigh kinda thing. Earlier today, my mother drove past a nearby hospital to see several inches of slush preventing people getting in and out.
The snow's stopped.

But... there was snow in the heat-pocket of warming pollution in southerly London.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
No snow in northern Alberta, Canada. Just temperatures hovering around the 0 degrees Celsius mark.
Though we did get a light dusting on Saturday that blew in with a severe windstorm. Half of the province was without power for about four to five hours, and the wind was so cold and so fast that you couldn't breath if you faced into it.
We don't really look forward to the snow up here. We get about six months of it, so the novelty wears off.Last edited by FoE; 2008-10-28 at 07:03 PM.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
On quizzes: I could survive for 1 minute 32 with the raptor. The others I think I've done before... *Searches through different forum* ah yes. I can manage 24 5-year olds, I'm 28% likely to eat my friends, 46% chance of surviving a zombie holocaust, dead body worth $5715.
I don't think it's possible to come up with a universally accurate test for how geeky someone is, because there are so many different areas to be a geek in. Computers, comics, books, films, music...
On place names: Every year, on the way home from Scarborough, my mum and I lament the fact that we never get to drive through Wombleton.
Also, this summer in the Lake District I climbed the fells Little Cockup and Great Cockup; but not the regular unprefixed Cockup, which is further south."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'
YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
...On those quizes?
I could beat a grand total of... 10 5-year olds. Yes, only 10. (*is weak*)
48% geek.
My dead body would be worth $5700.
Would survive 47 seconds with the velocioraptor thingy.

49 seconds with the raptor, and 28 5 year olds. And hardly any snow here, ever. *looks at location* Ignore that. I wish it would snow more often though.

*ahem*
Serpentine's Stupendous Bragging session (contracted due to time constraints)
So. I'm on the second full day (i.e. woke up here, will go to sleep here) of a 6 full-day spell on Heron Island on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Yesterday I had some lectures, then snorkelled for an hour or two, with sharks and turtles, then sat on the beach and read for several hours. Then I had a quiz, but whatever. It was followed by sitting around 3 turtles as they layed their eggs. So far today, I've snorkelled, again, for a couple of hours, with a shark again. Beautiful. I've got a lecture right now, but pffft, whatever. It's interesting. More turtles tonight.
