Small boots. Which is good, with all this talk about snow. Going bootless in winter is a terrible thing.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
I've been going bootless for almost four years, and let me tell you, it's a terrible thing. I'd like some nice warm boots, yessir.
Yes, actually. I do. And I am proud of it. Then again, I also have pretty big feet and my head is tied for the largest the prop department's ever seen. So there's that.
When did you ever do that?

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Regarding snow and the consumption thereof, I tend to do it all the time when it's available and not littered with seeds and bark and other tree stuff that invariably ends up in it after a while. For as long as you stay away from the contaminated snow, it's safe, but it's extremely efficient in cooling down your body, so it's recommended that you melt it first if keeping yourself warm is an issue.
Pretty! A bit too abstract for my taste, as I prefer jewelry that actually depicts something (like a leaf, or a dragon), but I appreciate its beauty nevertheless.
I think I can see some of it in the outer rims of the gem, but the image compression isn't doing it any favour.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Hmm, using the numbers presented by them and some rough assumptions on human energy consumption, I've figured out that the human body loses about 1.4 kCal worth of energy through heat (which is where practically all spent energy ends up in the end) every minute. Eating the equivalent of a large glass of water (2.5 dl) as 0oC snow is going to cost you roughly 30 kCal to warm up to body temperature, or more than 20 minutes worth of heat lost in what probably is a minute. It's probably not especially dangerous when you're warm enough, but if you've been lost in the wilderness without food for a few days, this might very well spell your doom...
Nah, I don't eat that much snow. Only a handfull every now and then to cool myself off and experience the squeaky, crunchy texture of hard packed hugsnow.Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Hm... I have to say, tuning all the strings on my guitar to G was an interesting choice. I'm not entirely sure what the train of thought was there, brain. Sounds pretty good though (although I'm effectively sliding everything).

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Well, yeah. Most guitars only have 6 strings, and most pianos have well over a hundred. Just the potential (given only 12 possible notes) for having a G string is overwhelmingly in favor of pianos.
On that note (pun unintentional), how many strings do harps normally have?Avatar by FinnLassie

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Pianos actually have even more because each note has three strings (hence the leftmost pedal being called una corda since it makes the hammer only strike on string instead of the group of three), 3 strings per note, 12 notes per octave and the 3 additional ones on the left and 1 additional to the right. So a piano has [((# of octaves)*12 +4)*3] strings (normally, since sometimes the edges have more or less keys).
The pedal harp or concert harp has 47 strings (at least by my count) which is six and a half octaves. The folk harp probably has less.Last edited by AsteriskAmp; 2012-10-11 at 09:14 PM.

Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
I live in Brisbane. We're subtropical.
We can grow bananas, sugarcane and pineapples around here.
Because it's been contaminated with pollen and some people are allergic to pollens?
Mostly because I never have my door closed during the day because I'm not in my room and I like to have air flow going through it when I'm not there or it gets too stuffy.
It's mostly because my medication suppresses my appetite. I also don't do very much and a sedentary existence doesn't really require much food.
And it did go well. No one bugged me. I used the generic "I'm not feeling very well" excuse, which I wasn't, so they left me alone.
Indeed. The photograph does not adequately capture the fire of the opal. But aside from photographic difficulties, it is a beautiful ring. The use of Tsavorites complements the opal very well without outshining it when it comes to colour.
And I am feeling much better now that I've rested. Even though my sleep was disturbed last night first by cold and then by the windy weather I am currently experiencing. Still, it is an interesting experience to watch the sky lighten slowly as the sun rises out of view. One of these mornings, I should just get up when I can't sleep and sit on the front veranda and watch the sunrise properly.
I need to buy a guitar. I haven't played one in years.
It would be less. The lowest notes have fewer strings. Starting at one string, and then two before going to three.
I do believe the reason for that is firstly, there's not enough room for three strings fir each of the lowest notes, and secondly, because the higher notes have such thin strings that they would both be very soft and very easily damaged were there only one.
At least, I think that's the reason.Last edited by Elemental; 2012-10-11 at 10:47 PM.

ION: Okay, I think the world is conspiring against me in an attempt to either stick me in situations that make everyone around think I'm lesbian, or make it look like Bunker Boy and I are in any way interested in eachother.
IOON: Started an essay at 7:36 last night. Finished at 11:00. It cmae out pretty awesomely, especially considering I hadn't even known what I was going to write about at 7:31, and that I hadn't even known what the general subject we were being assigned was the day before. Today went something like this:
Morning: Wake up and realize I haven't quite finished the third period homework I was working on after completing the massive essay. Decide to do it in school.
1st Period: Realize that in my rush to write the entire essay plus finish all the other homework meant I totally forgot about the homework for third period that I wasn't halfway through when I fell asleep last night. Also,t his forgotten homework is basically prep for a test that I had forgotten about and did not study for. The test is today. Also, I can't do anything in this class, as we are doing a scientific experiment that requires a good deal of attentiveness.
2nd Period: Desperately attempt to finish both third period homeworks, and vaguely attempt to test oneself on what I may have to answer for test. Finish everything, breathe sigh of relief, then realize that 2nd Period teacher has been talking for half the class already, and just because one is the best student does not mean one can just completely space out on him.
3rd Period: Turn in the forgotten homework that I finished aobut fifteen minutes ago, take the test it was supposed to be prep for. Get full points, plus all extra credit options. Class runs out of time, so in turns out the homework I was up for until 12:30 last night could have been put off anyway.
Brief Moment Between 3rd and 4th Period: Stick head in the door of teacher who assigned massive essay and ask her if a handwritten essay is okay. She says fine, as long as it is in pen. Realize that switching from one class to another, I wrote my entire essay in pencil. Duck back out of her classroom and swear loudly.
4th Period: Give up entirely on ever doing what the class is intended for, and drag out fresh paper, a pen, and the essay which must be now recopied entirely in pen. Begin this task. Get about a third of the way through before being forced to leave the room because it's lunchtime.
Lunch: Spend all of lunchtime recopying the rest of the essay. This is not made any easier by the distracting group of Intellectual *******s who I'm sitting with, all of whom for once seem to not be ignoring me. Almost finish recopying when bell rings.
5th Period: This is the class taught by the strictest teacher, who most definitely would not be happy with me being inattentive in her class. Fortunately, teacher is a bit late, and due to the fact that classes are shortened and then are followed by a three-day weekend, she has deemed it not worthwhile to teach today, so it's all filler. Finish copying essay, and get a small heart attack when I notice how it seems a bit shorter than the original. Spend five minutes desperately searching for paragraph you missed and consider having to recopy the entire thing again. Realize it's just a handwriting difference, and nearly start crying in relief. Carefully put away copy and original, and spend rest of class doing what teacher tells me. At some point, mention to friend also doing the essay that I had to recopy the whole thing because it was in pencil. She is currently just finishing her essay, which she was still writing at the time, in pencil. Friend looks stricken.
6th Period: For the first class in the day, I don't have to worry about anything involving homework. Spend the period being glouriously non-panicked and leisurely work my way through a tragically easy French test and watch a movie about Paris afterwards.
Pre-homecoming Assembly: Sit through an assembly longer than every individual class today in which we hear vaguely bad pop music I can't name, Call Me Maybe, a badly-sung Star-spangled Banner, and the deafening screams of every single student in every single grade, because everyone had succumbed to mob psychology by the end of it. Including me. Hands raw at end from clapping so hard. Get into an interesting discussion with a few of the boys of whether it was more enjoyable to watch the dance number by the Girl's Volleyball team or the Cheerleaders. (Why that particular sports team is told to do a dance number wearing mini-skirts instead of forcing the football jocks to do a dance number shirtless is anyone's guess, it's equally sexist either way.) General consensus is that the cheerleaders were less interesting. I escape assembly shortly afterwards.
Time In Between After School Class and The Assembly That Just Happened: Scurrying out of the gym I pass the teacher of the Honors History class that takes place after school. This is the class the essay is due in. Teacher, who also does Yearbook, is out taking photos of the newly-deaf students, and hands me a key-ring containing literally over fifteen keys. She tells me to unlock the classroom for everyone, and that she'll be along shortly. I say 'Sure,' and ask which key. She replies, 'the shiny one,' and then rushes off after what I assume must have been a photogenically deaf freshman.
I spend the next ten minutes trying to find out which of the all-quite-equally shiny keys opens her classroom door, while being egged on/assisted by the various classmates who know that they wont get in trouble if I fail to open the door before the teacher comes back. I finally open the door and we all pour inside to boast about the odds we surmounted to complete our essay. My friend, who was still writing it an hour ago wins in terms of timing, but as she has about a page and a half handwritten, loses points. Twenty minutes after this the teacher shows up and we begin class. At the end, I turned in my paper and try and get home before any coincidences happened.Spoiler: This signature is a historical relic from a long-ago time of regular forum activity.Aww man! @Ele, I remember sometime you telling me that you liked Guitar Hero. Nathan has two guitars for his PS3, plus three of the Guitar Hero games. Perhaps you should get your Mum to drive you over here sometime? Plus I think soon my boyfriend is getting a guitar (used to play, hasn't in a looooong time) also.
Glad you're feeling better old friend.

And by old I meant that we've been friends for a long time (7 years isn't it?), not that you're old. Sheesh, you're only 8 months older than me.
